I’m not sure why they weren’t more selective in handing out visas cause their mishandling of immigration just paints a bad picture of all Indian immigrants (even those who assimilate with the country and contribute strongly to the economy). The US at least keeps immigration under control and only allows mostly smart Indians in. The Indian demographic in the US achieved the highest average annual salaries and most have assimilated well. That’s proof the US carried out good immigration control.

I feel bad that many of these people were given false hope, but this reduction was needed. In the early 2020's immigration levels reached levels that were simply too high. We had a population growth rate similar to Sudan. It strained our education, health care and prevented young people from getting jobs. We are a nation that welcomes immigration, but it cannot be at a level beyond our capacities.
