Canadavis great if you where poor in your country, if you where middle class you are better in you country. Here you can be middle class upper or lower but true , very very hard to accumulate money ?. And healthcare, yes you can wait 12-24hours before seeing a MD, for a basic thing. Hi, I’m a Canadian living in the USA. Pros and cons for each. For hard workers and entrepreneurs,you will undoubtedly have success- USA is where most of the big companies have started, and small businesses do well, too. Americans work very hard and not everyone is suited for that type of lifestyle. My second point may be a little controversial. As a retiree we have Medicare which covers major medical- hospital and doctors at a rate of 80%. The additional must be paired via private insurance that is optional or out of pocket. We have chosen a good supplemental policy that allows us to make our own referral to specialists- with a waiting period < 2 weeks. The point is that you can choose what you want. No waiting!I know that people in Canada who wait a year to see a doctor in a non emergency situation! You will say that it is expensive,but people choose not to prioritize medical care and instead purchase luxury items etc. what I like is the choice. I don’t want to not be able to see a specialist when I feel I need one!! I like \nChoice!

Very true. I moved to Canada at the age of 20 going on 21 in 1990 and in a few months, I am turning 54. I've been to college twice and I could not get a job in the fields I studied for; instead I am working in a factory and I've worked hard. I'm on medical leave, but I'm now waiting to return to work and my employer has not been making it easy to return. I plan to return to my home country once I retire, because I hate winter weather and when it gets cold, my arthritis flares up and it will get worse as I age. It's very expensive here, car insurance, house insurance, phone bills, grocery bills, property taxes, and federal taxes. You work and work and you get 2 weeks vacation and sometimes, you don't even get to enjoy it. I remember getting sick when I took my holidays. You work long and crappy hours for just enough money to pay expenses and you don't really get to enjoy life. Canada is a beautiful country, but when do you get time to explore and enjoy it? Right now for me, it seems to be when I retire I'll be able to do that, if I can afford it (remember, taxes are high).

Was born in Canada in the 50’s and grew up in a predominately immigrant area in Montreal. My father came in 1928 and my friend’s parents came just after WWII. They came with NOTHING and didn’t expect anything. There were no English classes offered to new immigrants nor free health care. All of children made a success. The cold winters were fun as we skated, skied, etc… Mind you it was hard for our parents in the beginning as life isn’t always a bed of roses but we grew up in a peaceful country.

As an American with a Canadian dad... I gotta say the Tap Water thing hits hard! If I try to drink just tap water it tastes like I got it from a hose in my backyard. I've gotta use a Britta filter ALWAYS lol

A lot of the points you touch on are valid and true. Canada is very vast and beautiful and social programs are adequate, although they could be better funded. However cost of living is insane and wages aren't keeping up with inflation. Good paying jobs are hard to come by as the market is oversaturated with minimum wage work; which even those jobs are very competitive to attain. If not for inheritance, I never would have been able to afford purchasing my own home here.

First off Canada is not a systemically racist country I’m white I’m also poor and I’ve lived here all my life nearly everyone excluding the native population in a immigrant or a descendant of a immigrant my mom is Portuguese and I also have black family members we are no more racist than anyone else in any other country. Canadian tax payers don’t want to pay for drug addicts to get more drugs the Liberal Canadian government have set up “safe injection sites” and “ methadone clinics” that basically give these addicts more drugs that are payed for with our tax dollars again these clinics and safe injection sites didn’t exist when I was a kid and since then the number home homelessness has increased as well as the number in population addicted to drugs. Canadians actually work 2 jobs a lot and even work on their vacation time to get paid. Americans hardly work 2 jobs. Your boss will not allow you to work on your vacation. I’ve never worked 50 hours a week. And I’ve never met an American who’s afraid they’ll lose their job and put up with anything. Not even for the health insurance. Tap water can be pretty hard in parts of Canada though (calcite deposits accumulating on your faucets and stuff). I noticed that a lot in Waterloo, ON and I think other cities around there like Guelph, Cambridge, Brantford, London have similar issues. \n\nThunder Bay, Toronto and Montreal tap water was really nice though.

Educated and professional Canadians are desperately trying to move to the US, including my wife, myself, my direct manager and two of my coworkers, but even with TN visa it is tough. Taxes are really high here, rent is expensive, good luck finding a daycare, we are working poor people here, job market is small and very competitive since Canada brings many highly educated professionals from everywhere (India, Pakistan, China, etc) it is hard to build a descent career, and most of all Canada has long and dark winters. I pray every day to have a possibility to move to the US, save some money, maybe buy a house with a 3-4 bedroom (which will never ever happens in the city where I live in Canada).

Things have been getting very difficult in on the east coast lately. The great Ontario exodus has been really putting all our health/real estate/employment sectors to the grindstone, but I mean I guess that's always been our motto though (hard times in the Maritimes™). I am really shocked to hear these two girls regarding why people are leaving Canada. As I heard cost of living is too high to survive in Canada. So what is the point working hard when have no reward end of the day as all your money goes into taxes and you left with nothing. It seems to me Canadians govt ripping people off instead helping people to have better life. I am shocked that you have to wait to see doctor eight hours .It is terrible to live in Canada as you not get any luxury money but only survival money. I live in Rural US and it is so hard to find food that is healkthy to eat. Especially if you forget your lunch and want something healthy...

I live in Japan right now and I could totally relate to your sentiment when you brought up locking the doors. I've forgotten to lock my door countless times here in Japan, but I never feel worried because crime is just so low here. I never forgot to lock my doors back in the states and that was probably due to my sense of paranoia of what could happen if I forgot. I feel more at peace here than I do back in America. Also Japan has so much healthy (AND DELICIOUS) food everywhere you go. Fast food chains aren't all over the place here in Japan besides in Tokyo (and maybe some other big cities), but that isn't most of Japan, so living here has forced me to eat healthier and I am so grateful because I feel a lot better. I feel like moving back to America one day will be very hard when it comes to this.\n\nAlso I am surprised you all didn't mention the differences between health care! I know when it comes to Japan and America these two countries are night and day different.

I moved to Canada 3 years ago and I can tell you life here is much better financially than London, England where I moved from. Building wealth isn’t hard in Canada unless you live in a city like Toronto. I sold my 1 bed Condo in Toronto for $700k and bought a massive 4 bed, 3 bathroom detached house for 500k in Edmonton. Yes it’s colder here but the wages are much higher and the tax is much much lower. Cost of living in general is much cheaper… Gas as of today is 1.11 per litre at my local Costco!\n\nMy advice to anyone living in Toronto is, move out as soon as you can and also avoid Vancouver because it’s no different!

I’m an American. I live rather close to Canada and spent over 2 years in time living there over summers mostly . I love both. If you aren’t going to a grocery store you are probably getting fat in America. I find it hard to eat when I’m outside of my larger metro area. honestly I don’t worry about my security because thankfully I work hard to pay the bills to live in an area I don’t need to worry about. I went to New York 20 years ago, I found the food was terrible and the air smelled like sewage. Central Park was the only place I enjoyed there, likely because the trees were able to filter the crappy smell from the air. Montreal, despite the episodic smog events, smell like heaven next to that. Also the milk in the US tastes absolute garbage unless you pay the piper for organic, non growth hormone raised cow milk. Most farmers in the US shoot their livestock with all sorts of hormones to increase production but they just end up spoiling the taste, it's quite hard to describe but it's painfully obvious when you experience it.

Im 28 and i can also say that its hard to eat. Im so bored with everything around here because its all basically the same foods. Just burgers or pizza or shakes etc. Everything is so greasy and gross

I am an American born in NY, raised in VA. I also lived in Van Nuys for a year, also lived in Texas before my job industry moved me to Canada. \ni have been in Canada for 7yrs, been to Vancouver, Toronto and MTL and to be honest i like a lot of things in Canada like the health care differences and of course the lower insulin cost for my husband but i still want to go back home. If anything i would stay in Toronto because it's the closest similarity to home but where Aba and Preach live, in Montreal, it's literally been my nightmare. I feel like the tap water at least in my area has gotten worse over time. \nOne thing i feel like they didn't mention that I have to tell people from America to watch out for is the credit card vs debit card thing. \nI grew up only having debit cards because i didn't want to get into debt. when i came to Canada i continued getting a debit card and realized the hard way that not everything accepts debit cards and you NEED to also have a credit card to access certain things.\nbut overall i do feel much safer in Canada even though the crazy trump lovers are showing up here and there it's significantly less than i see when I'm back home.

I hate conversions like this. Life can be hard or easy wherever you live if you're in comparable countries (mostly 1st world). If you want to build wealth or love recreational gun use, live in U.S. if you would rather give more in taxes for more ease and certainty then maybe consider someplace else? To each their own. At the end of the day it's your decisions that matter.

I worked in Vancouver a lot, which was really nice and pretty, but I don't recall the tap water hitting me hard lol. I grew up on the northwest chicago burbs and spent much of my life there and think it is one of the great areas to grow up and live in. The city itself has pros and cons for areas, like all cities, although crime seems up in even the better parts these days. Y'all are super on point with airlines - because of the competition across all the major airlines here, as well as competition across banks and co-branded credit cards, US citizens can take advantage of some pretty great deals and options uniquely available only here because of this competition.

I love that people ONLY think about Toronto when they think Canada. \nComing from BC on the West Coast, living in Vancouver, the worst parts are the homelessness, the drugs, and the alienation. As a white guy it's very hard to find a healthy community to be a part of, whereas the Asian communities (Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, etc) are very tight knit. \nBC is also CRIMINAL for cost of living. Not just housing but groceries, utilities, etc. Its beautiful country, and a lot of the smaller towns and cities are nice in terms of the people, it's just kinda crazy. \nStill, I wouldnt want to live anywhere else for very long.

To confirm as an American. Yes, it seems like everyone wants to put hot sauce and cheese on everything and it's annoying. The tap water here is bad unless you get it from the fridge or have a filter. Here in Arkansas, I think our spring water is great.\n\nRegarding the city and getting around to restaurants and other areas, pretty much. A good portion of our factories are on acres of land. However, some are still close enough that you can walk to. I'm certain this is hardly different from Canada but we are 97% rural. People think of America as big cities but usually its the local town and a pumpkin patch. I see a lot of people mention safety and this is what I can say; I felt my safety was compromised by a tornado warning. Trouble can happen but if you don't deal drugs or do some under the table stuff, usually you won't be a victim of a crime. \nI'm planning on owning some land myself so I can shoot on it, farm, and raise a family. Just be independent.
