Hmmmm, why has the birthrate been lack luster for so many decades. Why has born and bred Canadians living on the streets, no home. Why are kids failing in schools and college students are brain washed. Why does Canada need so many more immigrants, when the government can not take care of our citizens. Before you start anything this important you have to do the research. Check for homelessness, inflation, affordable housing availability, also what kind of education and skills will these 500.000 immigrants have and will they speak English?? Even in a remote part of Canada rent is very high, Canadians are paying 1200.00 per month for a 1 bed 1 bath apartment and don’t forget utilities on top of that. How can the government support 500,000 immigrants a year when statistics show immigrants haven't been able to reach a decent level of economic integration since 2003? This is especially concerning if the government wants to bring people to cover dead-end jobs with minimum wage, part-time schedules, no rights and no benefits, or programmes like the live-in care giver or seasonal workers that put vulnerable people in legal slavery. On top of that, the current population that lives under the poverty line, and those who are entering that socio-economic level as a result of housing bidding wars and inflation, think it would be more effective to create policy to eliminate poverty rather than bringing in more people to join it, which at the end, only benefit corporations.

dont get me wrong; i enjoy other cultures of people as a part of my population; that said, are we going to see double these numbers in new houses being errected? with appropriate size living areas/yards? not just complexes? are we going to see a healthcare system that can handle above 20% of our municipalities ? if we are talking about futures we need to ensure we can all have exactly that; a feasible future.

Wow. Canada is so backwards. In the UK to apply for a insurance number to work it's done online via the government website, once applied you go for a face to face interview.\nAnd to find work you would only travel mostly about 10km. Part time jobs are plenty.

In all fairness, some of these students have very unrealistic expectations of what employment in Canada looks like. I have a family member who is a store manager at a Canada wide clothing retail store. Students are coming in and asking for $22/HR to work part-time doing sales/cash.

I would like to thank CBC Fifth Estate for their initiative to uncover the trauma these students go through. This is only one cornerstone of the story. Fifth Estate need to dig deeper and come up with part 2 to look in to our Federal Government policy regarding issuing Student Visa from India. Why these so called for profit colleges / agencies only targeting students from India and not from any other countries ? The Student VISA process is different for students from other countries. It’s our government who is exploiting these students and playing with their hopes and dreams.

the part where the one student in India is asked why he wants to go in Canada and he says he wants a white collar job and the life he dreamed of which I would imagine entails a Canadian wife as well? Cannot believe this goes on in Canada... I thought differently about the college situation until watching this. Misleading people into living in and paying for these situations is reprehensible. Whoever plays a part in taking advantage of these students is disgusting.

I am transgender and out, basically broke the relationship with my family. I’m living alone in the US as an international student (CN citizen) and suffering from the living cost and tuition even though I have a part-time job, and I’m gonna lose it soon because I have to change my visa to a student visa that does not allow me to work outside of campus. I am thinking about transferring to a Canadian university because I’m poor and lonely without family anyway (lol), and I just can’t resist the temptation of starting my life again in a different place while healing my trauma. Moreover, it’s more immigrant-friendly (note I am still going through a visa change in the US), maybe I will not be in the daily fear of having to go back to China, where is definitely not trans-friendly. But I’m so anxious on the other hand. What if I end up unemployed; what if I run out of money…I’m simply uncertain about how to find somewhere queer-friendly to survive with a secured shelter and money enough for food. I’m sorting everything out…please let me know if you have any similar experiences in Canada. Anything can be very helpful.

So I think Canada is ranked 3rd best in the world to live in (I might be wrong but it's top 5 for sure). While Canada does have issues (like any other country in the world) What you outline highlights the privileged life you are living. You are correct in pointing out that the health care system is flawed, it is not perfect by all means but AT LEAST YOU ARE GETTING HEALTH CARE. Take the stats for example (I had the privilege of going to the hospital in Texas) My bill came to 3000 for a twisted ankle. They charged me over 500 dollars just for walking into the hospital. I'm not knocking that stats, but if you do not have money, you're fucked for health care. Instead of waiting 8 hours to see a doctor, you're now on Web MD trying to diagnose yourself. You are bitching about high taxes, how do you think Schools, Police and fire services, Emergency service hospitals etc etc etc get paid? through wishes and hope? As Cost of living, if you live in Toronto or BC yes the cost of living is high, but at the same time, the average household income is high as well. I'm sorry minimum wage in most of Canada is roughly 15 dollars an hour, and the average incoming for most provinces is over 100k. I'm not sure what else to say on that subject :D As for things to do, seriously, stop living under a rock. Please go and travel Canada, to name a few things you can travel to Niagara, Go to Banff, Visit hot springs or enjoy any of our national parks. Hello ladies I don't agree with you. Every place pay taxes to keep the city beautiful and safe. It's not that the government is living off of it. The Government welcomed you and other immigrants.
