Horror! I left Canada some 20+ years ago and always wanted to go back. Just found out that the treatment waiting time in BC is 27.4 weeks! And it's common for people in BC wait for 5+ years without a primary doctor. The incentive to move back in my nostalgia has largely diminished.....You would think that voter in a democratic country would have gotten this fixed fast! What are the politicians doing?

I grew up in the Bay Area, CA, and I moved away 12 years ago to NC. Best decision ever. I miss the west coast because the views are world class (the drive up and down highway 1 is just breathtaking), but I can afford multiple homes where I am, and I'm not rural. Just live in a suburb right outside of a major city. I can afford to raise a family, send kids to private school. I can afford vacations....I can afford to live! It's also why I am not liberal anymore. After moving from a Democrat controlled area to a mostly Republican controlled area, I converted. Lower taxes, better cost of living, and less crime...It just makes sense. I'm also hispanic, and let me tell you, I appreciate the racism here! I know that sounds odd, but for one, there really isn't that much racism to deal with, but when it confronts you, you know it! It's not hiding behind some fake woke smile, it's blatant and obvious, and I'm good with that because I can just navigate around it vs constantly second guessing.

As someone who was born and spent decades growing up in Toronto who moved to the US years ago and spend time regularly in multiple states, I disagree vehemently with what Aba said about safety. Aba did not recognize that not only is the US like 50 different countries, with each state being somewhat unique unto themselves, but the cities are like an amalgamation of 2 or 3 different cities. What I mean by that is about the safety and security aspect, it all depends on where you live and where you hang out. Undoubtedly, US ghettos and the sketchy clubbing districts are generally worse than Canadian housing projects and such. If you live in the regular or especially good parts of the city, it's totally safe. \nBecause most US towns and cities are built around neighborhoods, security and safety is always a big selling point. As long as you avoid the ghetto and late night 'action' areas, it's generally safer than Toronto. Toronto suffers from an outbreak of car break ins, car thefts, home break ins and recently car jackings all over. Many US neighborhoods and areas have no such thing. On a side note, as a POC, I also have experienced far less racism in the US than I used to in Toronto. Without getting into a can of worms, if you live in a Democrat controlled city vs. Republican one, you are going to experience more crime, more homeless, higher unemployment, etc. You guys are referencing LA, which has become far worse, like San Francisco and New York. \nAnd the cost of living comment is ridiculous. Again maybe LA and NYC which are shadows of what they once were. Canada has far higher tax burden, way higher inflation, prices of food, energy, clothes and homes are off the charts. In Texas, Florida, Tennessee and Washington, we have ZERO income tax as well as lower tax than the HST. No way, Aba and Preach are dead wrong on these issues, because they are using LA or NYC as a reference. There's a reason the movies Escape From New York and it's sequel Escape From LA are such prophetic movies.

Life in Eastern Canada (Quebec and Ontario) is way better. \n\n2) Weather : rain during winter is really a BC thing, the rest of the country : is SNOW and cold for 4-5 months\n\n3) Again, the cost of living is super expensive in Vancouver and Toronto. I am a British Columbian who briefly lived in Quebec, when the army posted me there for basic, I have to say Quebec is horrible, outside of Montreal, if you do not speak French. I also spent 5 years in Alberta & I would rank Alberta as number ☝️ of all of Canada’s provinces. \n\nThat all being said, I am sick of this country’s politics. I deeply regret serving this country due to how badly our current PM has treated us veterans, only PM to ever sue veterans & make massive cuts to veterans support funding. Canada is a country of immigrants, which means people who are, in my humble opinion, mostly quite self-centered and expecting the world from others, which never happens! Canada demands a gigantic capacity to adapt, to adjust and, in a word, to change...completely! You must be totally willing to leave everything behind if you want to integrate into Canadian society and this is extremely hard to do! Moreover, most immigrants come to Canada because they expect that country to give them a life of luxury or at least a very easy life, which can be true, as compared to certain other countries where life can be hell because of corruption, poverty or mismanagement and dictatorship. Now, don't fool yourself, you will find all of this in Canada too, in a very different way, although not always that different, but you will find it to a certain extent, depending on what you are trying to do here! Canada pretends to be a free and democratic country, but if there is one thing, that you are not supposed to do in Canada without dire consequences and reactions from most Canadians, it is criticism and voicing dissent! You will face repression too! I am 67 and I have lived in this country for over 30 years and now have lots of health problems, which I would probably never have had in another country, all this because of the frigging climate here...I just hate it here! And yes, don't be cultured and...play stupid and ignorant, otherwise you will face automatic rejection and that same stupidity and ignorance! A country of many cultures...yes, but also of deep rooted prejudices and intolerance! And if there is something that never changes in Canada, it is change! To me, a democratic society is an equal and just society for each and every citizen. Freedom is where every citizen has all their civil rights in that democratic society. This means we should be valued and treated equally under every circumstance.\n\nI'm a Canadian and I can see we are not doing that by over-policing black and indigenous communities, by denying indigenous communities the ability to participate in Canadian society with their own culture in tact and by our biases about people with other ethnicities, like Asians and East and West Indians.\n\nWe may not be bad as the US, but we are still doing these things. It needs to be addressed and rectified if we ever want to be a truly self-aware, equal and just democratic society for every citizen.\n\nRegardless of the political party we support, I can't fathom why every citizen would not want an equal and just democratic society for themselves and their fellow citizens, as it improves everyone's lives.
