This is SO true!!! I am American but have lived overseas in the UK and Europe. I can’t believe the difference. Living in America is so lonely! It’s isolating. It’s very sad. It didn’t used to be this way in the 40s, 50s, 60s 70s. This is a new phenomenon. Without w church family (and I’m not religious) you are literally on your own - and that’s as an American! I can’t believe what it would be like being a refugee or an immigrant. Depression is high and largely due to isolation.

I am a 62 year old Canadian and I do believe things in North America were'nt always this way. I grew up in a semi-rural area. We knew who our neighbours were and knew a lot about them . In those days it was unnatural for kids to spend most of their days inside rather than running around the neighbourhood. Most people either were connected to a church or the Legion etc. There would be hockey , church dinners etc. That drew people together. Too much has changed but I don't think is consumerism alone that is the cause.

Totally agreed. I came back from Canada in 2019 because I was getting all kinds of panic attacks due to loneliness and I also have gained so much that I got into depression. It’s been 3 years now and I am still in India and now I have made my mind like the moment I start getting panic attacks I will either come to India or go to Australia and stay with my sister . Sadly I don’t believe in Canadian marriages as these are short lived marriages. So loneliness hits me even more but the better part is I am single so I have some options to escape from lonely life.

But as for settling, these Western countries seem too cold and lonely for us and our way of life. We are very communal, we sit and walk outside a lot. Common Market places are an integral part. Our kids always come out to play with neighbors kids when not in school. I have lots of friends everywhere, our shopkeepers are our friends, gas station attendants, security guards, technicians, our workmates are all friends. I'd hate for my daughter to have no friends to play with and to just sit watching TV or on a computer all day every day. We find this very antisocial and bad for a child's development. Its is so sad and unfair but I guess its just the way life is there.

I haven’t travelled much of Canada but I refuse to believe bc doesn’t crack the top 3. It’s beautiful. It has it all. Cities. Mountains. Oceans. Forests. Deserts. It’s expensive AF but so is Ontario. Everyone I’ve ever met from Ontario cannot stop gushing about how beautiful bc is it that there are ACTUAL mountains here. And the weather in both Ontario and Alberta is awful in comparison.

Each European country has its customs and values, it’s sad to see them fade away and be replaced, in my biased opinion, with more primitive cultures from the Middle East and Africa. It is unfortunate that Canada thinks that their schools are so good that they cannot except people with schooling from another country. Canadian kids overpay for what they get. Public school is also a joke. Imo they do not except other counties diplomas because they are probably trying to protect their professors and their schooling system. If you tell them that their schools are the best then they will believe you over time. It is a shame.

And the territories has the benefit of being absolutely gorgeous in the summer and a lake everywhere you look. The city of Yellowknife alone touches 8 lakes. Yes we are. We went to a thrift store where they insisted they take my moms bag and put it behind the counter. They didn't say anything about my much bigger bag. My mom is brown, I'm fairly light skinned.. as a kid I witnessed a driver telling her and my sister who is also dark skinned that there is no more room on the bus (when Cleary there was) I went to get off and he saw I was with them and he let them on. If I hadn't witnessed it myself I wouldn't have believed it. What's worse was this driver was also brown. I've seen this from people who have grown up here or lived here longer who believe they have more rights than newly arrived people or those with stronger accents.\nI'm lucky I have a group of very welcoming people around me, but I've seen it with bfs and new friends who haven't grown up here and how horrible some people are.\nWorse when you're in your home country and being cast out when this is your home.
