This can feel compelling however there is clear bias. Every store will have its own profile of who steals and it will vary from store to store. There are facts about crime as far as identifying what groups of people are committing what crimes. You can't just discard that information because you don't like it. How long ago did these things happen? I thought stamping a passport was obsolete, For the last 10 years or so, my passport for my county is electronic and my (and everyone elses) passport is recorded electronically at the point of entry and examined electronically to ensure the persons face and passport photograph are matched etc. I assumed that this is world wide, but perhaps I am wrong.
