When American products were undoubtedly superior to the rest of the world, imposing tariffs did not work in the 1970s. Today, it would become less competitive, there is very strong international competition and Chinese products would benefit. To make America great again, we must look to the future, not the past.

Wow! As an independent black, female who voted Trump as POTUS I am unhappy a black woman is not a cabinet nominee! No African should be looking for reparation when their ancestors were heavily involved in the evil act of slavery. Wouldn't it be a magnitude cheaper to just give them all expedited background checks, work visas and give them legitimate jobs that the American public just won't fill? We have massive gaps in agriculture, manufacturing, meat packing and warehouse work. Many of these 11 million plus people actually belong here in the US, such as the Haitians and the Deeamers (which y'all neglected to mention). But if your asylum claim has been rejected or if you've overstayed your visa (which accounts for many), then deportation is fair. But we need a grand compromise. A path to citizenship for Dreamers and people who are under special arrangements (again, like the Haitians), deportations for most others, with a new visa regime for people who have been working in parts of the economy that - to be blunt - Americans won't.\n\nAlso, most of the people here without proper documents are Mexican. And most came through Mexico. AMLO let that happen. Sheinbaum is going to need to address that. Many Mexicans are also greatly unhappy with what's been going on for the last few years.

I love Americans. Although that's a general statement and just like Canada, there are jerks there just like here, for the most part I get along great with them. There are pros and cons to living in Canada and the U.S., For the most part, I believe Canada is the superior country. We have a superior healthcare system, superior banking system, superior snacks, and superior safety. However, Trudeau is killing that. He's destroyed our country to the point that one more term, and it may well be expedient to move to the USA. He's destroying our economy, our values, our culture. We have the resources to top the USA in every way, but we've never had leadership to make that happen. The U.S. has a superior economy, retail, and military. Although some may argue that the USA has superior freedoms, I'm not sure I agree with that. I know I don't feel freer when I travel there. I will definitely travel to the U.S. again. I have lots of friends there who I love and would love to see. However, it will take more Trudeau for me to want to move there. Since it looks like he's on the way out, I better just stay put at least for now.

If she would’ve visited Mexico and had a kid while visiting and didn’t have the money for a green card it would have been a completely different situation. I'm Hispanic, 3rd gen American. My great grandparents were born in Mexico, my grandparents were born in Texas in the 1920s. Anyway, I grew up an hour from the Mexican border. I don't know any family that lives in Mexico. IDK why these media pundits feel that because I'm Hispanic, I would want an open border. I'm as American as anyone else. There is a legal way to get into this country. Follow the law like this lady did.

This woman is right. We need people who are willing to sacrifice their time and their old citizenship to become Americans. She sacrificed a great deal to become a true American citizen. I do not want to be a citizen of another country although I have spent time as a guest worker LEGALLYin other countries. I was not allowed to take jobs in those countries (Japan and Germany) that native workers had the right to take. I was not given benefits or a right to vote. I had a passport which I was required to carry at all times because as a foreign worker I could be stopped and questioned about my legal status. My passport showed my working status in country with the appropriate stamp. I accepted these restrictions as part of my working conditions. I wanted to keep my own citizenship as an American although I could have worked to obtain the fluency level required and the citizenship understanding of law and legal procedures to become a citizen. It would have taken time and waiting for an application to clear. That is what it would have required but I wanted to be an American. I did not renounce my citizenship lightly…nor should anyone without work and thoughtful consideration of what it is to BE a member of that country.
