As a US citizen I don't want tariffs either.

This is about more than the fentanyl. This is about Canada not pulling their own weight when it comes to defensive spending, this is about getting them to allow Us manufacturered cars into their markets, this is about convincing Canadian companies to build factories in the US… etc Trumps tariffs are creating hundreds of billions, soon to be trillions of dollars worth of investments into our market. We hold the largest market in the world. We hold the power here, not Canada. And bitching about relations with our allies isn’t going to sway conservative voters come the next election. When we win this “trade war” something tells me CNN will whine about how we won it instead of giving credit to the current administration for doing better by our citizens.

The world should slap America economic sanctions along with all the tariffs then Canada should cut off oil & gas then in the summer cut off the power & really watch them sweat then they will be begging us to turn everything back on .

From the UK I cannot for the life of me see what Benefit these tariffs are to the US and why Trump has taken a sledgehammer to the trust between America and its allies. It is simply incredible.

If anyone is wondering about the reason of Trump's tariffs: Tariff is source of revenue for the government which is not based on salary. The rich and the poor of the USA will pay the same amount of it for a specific product. This revenue will then serve the US government to decrease the income tax, which is based on percent of revenue (i.e higher income people pay much more taxes). The tax cuts means those with higher revenue will get to keep more of it. So at the end of the day more of the governments revenue will come from those with lower revenue. Thus unfortunately widening the gap between the rich and the poor.

How come no one talks about the trade war Canada imposes on the United States. Who is asking about the tariffs they impose on us?? Lmfao ?.. can we get journalism that gives us both sides of the argument??? That’s what Americans actually want

if a country with a net deficit puts 25% tariffs on the net credit trader, and the net credit puts on 25%, the net deficit profits substantially overall, they collect more tariffs, consumers just buy local, so more national business growth etc. i.e. canada is screwed, the us does well out of this. if the us put on 100% tariffs on canada, that country would go bankrupt, and the us would be fine.

Go Canada, let him have it. Know that most Americans don’t support his actions. More than half of us DID NOT vote for him, and those that did likely had no idea what tariffs were or certainly didn’t understand how they work. Though I didn’t vote for him, I am so embarrassed and I am so sorry to the entire world for the horrible decision so many people in my country have made.

All sane Americans know this isn't about tariffs, it is about separating the US from its allies, lining his pockets with the collected tariffs while simultaneously weakening and destroying the US from within as a service to Putin.

I wonder why any nation would not equally respond. Trump pretty much declared economic warfare on all nations with putting tariffs on everyone. If all of them choose to put counter tariffs on the US, i doubt the US will be able to weather such storm without a scratch.

As a Canadian, I can tell you that I won't be buying anything made in US, product of US or even shipped from the US, even if tariffs were removed tomorrow, I will continue to boycott as long as the orange buffoon is the president.

If you truly want to work with and help our society in the US as you claim. You'd happily pay the tariff's. \nAlso, you do realize that you can open up a facility for the production for those goods in the US and avoid the tariff's. After a couple of years Trump and co will say, that Canada started a trade war against US. Just like they say, that Ukraine and Zelenskyy started the war with Russia. And now some uf US commentators are saying the same. It’s crazy. And there will be no way to get him to remember the facts. He and all who work for him are liars and half truth tellers. We do not need any Canadian products. Tariffs will work, we have natural resources gas, oil, minerals. do not need you. Critical minerals. that's a joke. We have all the fertilizer we need. There tariff's Trump is levying on Canada are BS. Less than 1% of illegal migration comes from Canada and 0.02% of all Fentanal comes into the US from Canada. Conversely, The US imports over half its oil from Canada, and 45% of its gas from Canada.

Rich people like inflation. The last scorching inflation we had in the 80s, CDs for 3 years and only 10,000 dollars drew 13.5%, there was also high, high, high unemployment, home loans were 18.5% interest with good credit. This set the farmers up or losing their farms and the Savings and Loan collapse and the subsequent 113 Billion Bail out. This was WITHOUT gutting our federal agencies, cutting back on SNAP and Medicaid and firing federal employees and gutting the agencies' ability to do oversight with the Offices of Inspector General. Mr Trudeau, if you go on a trade war with the US you’re definitely gonna get it and lose. All you have to do is lower the tariffs you’re imposing on American goods so Trump won’t impose the same tariffs on you.

I am a Canadian, and i don't like the tariffs, but our government taxes us too much, and are taking our hard earned dollars, funding wars, and and giving it away to refugees and welfare recipients

This has nothing to do with Canada or the Canadian people. This is a pure transactional move because that is how Trump sees things. He needs the money to finance his agenda and he has been told that the money does not exist in terms of what the US Congress can provide. They won't cut military spending and they wouldn't dare touch SS or Medicare. Therefore, Trump is resorting to the only available option which is to have the American people pay for it all and that is what he is doing with these tariffs. He doesn't need to worry about reelection so he couldn't care less how much pain he is inflicting on the very people who voted for him. Elections have consequences.

I am not sure where the issue is. so, what happens when Tariff is raised the US people and importers are who will pay. So, if they need to buy they will pay. This doesn't make US reacher. Only lower sales by Canada, but if it's required goods then they will pay.

I'm heartbroken for us all. Blame Canada (and Mexico), which is an artificial excuse. This allows him to impose tariffs. Putin wants this, and trump is his lapdog.

Canada (and many other countries) spent decades supporting the maintenance of US hegemony. Look what it got us? To a position where we're pretty much greatly dependent on, and at the mercy of the US. We need to invest more in our own country and make our own products. We should also trade with other countries regardless of what the US thinks of those countries. Trump wants Canada to put tariffs on China in the attempt to further impede that country's economic growth so the US will remain the economic hegemony. Never mind that a trade war with China would put Canada in an even worse position. Given the current events, I say we trade with China even more!

When WILL CNN TALK ABOOUT ALL THE TARIFFS CANADA HAS ON US!!!!! I am a very small business owner who seals things on Etsy. I sold only one thing to Canada for $13 and the tariffs was additional $65. The Canadian paid for it however it was my one and only sale there. So how is that fair for me? How is that fair to us?

The fentanyl excuse is just that an excuse, trump wants to make money from tariffs to give a huge tax break to the billionaires in the USA including musk, he is not worried at all about fentanyl, he doesn't care about other people, but he does care about tax breaks for himself and the billionaires who support him. I support Canada and Mexico in this trump fiasco, and I hope Canada and Mexico really make trump squirm. trump knows tariffs will hurt the US citizens but he knows it will hit the Lower and middle classes the hardest, not causing him and the billionaires nearly as much trouble. When you ALREADY have tariffs in place against the US you cannot claim Trump is starting a trade war. You started it. Now we have a POTUS with the sand to stand up for us not the world. Republicans understand that things will get tough. Liberals are already snow flakes that were in a melt down from the day Trump took office. We voted them out.
