Canada has one of the best education in the world and almost no high tech companies or industry at all. We had Bombardier before and that company got destroyed by our smart politicians. Don’t you feel it is funny that Canada has natural resources, educated people, huge land and can’t achieve anything. Meanwhile Japan and Korean has Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, LG, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic…… \nBro, they have such a small land without any resources!!! And we are here selling cured oil to US and buy Gasoline back from them. How dumb can we be?????

I'm Chilean. My sister moved to London bc of a job opportunity and lived there for 15 years, but after Brexit things started to go sour; my BIL's company offered to move him to Toronto. Off they go... they HATED it; the drab culture, the weather, the prices (higher than London!), the quality of the schools their kids go to, etc. I went there last year and, honestly, besides being obviously safer than Santiago, I found it a very boring city; much more than any other I've been to in the US, Europe and South America. Plus they are constantly complaining about the extreme protectionism, which means some things are hard to come buy or to order online, and explains the high costs of telecoms. Well, they decided it was too bad for them, so they're returning to Chile this year?‍♀️

Most of what was reported here is true but the housing market and rents have skyrocketed all over the world since the Chinese government F'd everyone with Covid-19. At first there were supply chain issues with all goods so businesses said we have to increase prices. Once supply issues were back to pre-Covid-19 levels businesses did not & will not lower their prices on goods because , we as a society do not take matters into our own hands and boycott products\\company's etc. Now obviously we cannot boycott all goods & services but the majority we could and that is the only thing that would cause action among companies to lower bank fees, fast food prices, grocery prices, cell plan costs etc.\n\nWith that said, you picked two of the highest and most sought after city's in CAN to rent & or try to buy a home. Although rent & home prices have really jumped all over the world in the past 3-4 years, more affordable (still not cheap) housing, compared to Toronto, Vancouver, can be found all across CAN. My sister & brother in law found an apartment to rent in Winnipeg without any difficulty or waiting. \nThey are immigrants and entered on her student Visa & he is a computer programmer. They are not struggling to eat but they have to follow a tight budget since she cannot work but 20 hours a week as a student and they have 1 kid, a car payment,utilities, cell plan, etc. They have filed for their PR and I suspect they will be approved since his job is in demand and she will graduate from College there in 4 months or so.\n\nOne thing I noticed, when my wife & I went up to get them settled in, is that the government (national & local) taxes you all pay out of the wazzoo on everything! I think the only thing that wasn't taxed was air. ? I know most of this is due to the healthcare system, because the money has to come from somewhere. Don't misunderstand, I like the CAN healthcare system better than the US's, because the insurance companies stick it to us as well, but both have their pluses and minuses.\n\nCAN does have a much easier system for immigration. If my sister & bro in law could have come here we would have been glad for them to stay with us and help them get started but the backlog is just so long to wait (10 + years). I also LOVE CAN because you uphold your laws and DEPORT illegal immigrants instead of letting them pour into the Country, by the millions each year, and the majority eventually trickle into the population illegally, who get jobs & pay no taxes (other than sales tax) no driver's licenses or vehicle insurance and get 100% free medical and hospital care anytime while legal US citizen's pay high premiums, into social security and their income taxes each year.

For long term it simply doesn't work. High taxes and impossible to buy a house. Moving to US after 2 years in Canada.

Its getting this bad or is already there in much of the western US. I live in utah and you need 140K to buy a starter home on average, while the median family income is still under 75K.

Here in Australian we have similar problems with migrants ,and they come mostly from Asia the problem is they unfortunately create mono cultures in many city suburbs,where they speak only their languages, and live like they were still in their native countries,and dictate to the rest of us what we can and cannot eat,in the suburb I live we cannot buy pork meat from the butchers. ,because they’re owned by muslims, they make little or no effort to assimilate,I think calling it multicultural is a wrong way to describe it ,A ??more accurate term would be multimonocultures ?

You need to find out why our doctors left and who caused it.?the same people who gives drugs to the addict. Yes our government.then we got flooded with immigrated, along with more preg women,and the number of doctors we got with that bunch just about filled all empty spots.Canada is very rich,and could support the country easily, but someone has their sights on owning Canada for all the rights once again the same who supplies addicts drugs take a good look around what do you see? We are capitalistic and democratic. Also, we refuse to do anything serious about the housing crisis. Homes are approaching $1m average. How do you expect people to buy $1m on $70k salary when you can move to the US, buy a house for $300k and make over $100k salary. We are so in denial

There is a temporatory stop of foreigners buying home for 2 years. It use to be that a foreign student IE CHINESE)can buy home when they go to school here. They would graduate go back to their country and leave the house empty, leaving us Canadian with no home to buy or the prices are too high. The federal government accept immigrants and foreign students (more than 1 million in 2023 ) but not give the time nor finance for the provincial governments to built up the infrastructures to a accomdate them ie hospitals/doctors,schools houses…..very irresponsible of this government.

He needs to shut it off for us to catch up. A million people came in last year alone. Canadians want roof over our heads and our children to have an opportunity to buy a home.

The US is still sending their citizens up to Canada to buy drugs here. If they really care about their citizens, they should get off their duffs and cut the drug patent time down in half (from 10 years down to 5 for generic medicines could be made).\n\nWith US citizens scooping up pharmaceuticals here, it ends up raising up the price in Canada as availability takes a hit.

TLDR; I am an person from a wartorn, oppressive country, and I unfortunately do not have many options to choose from other than Canada to have a chance for a better life.\n\nLet me tell you from the perspective of a person whose dream is to come to Canada: I know all this already, I know things are going terribly and the cost of living has gone up significantly. But the unfortunate thing is, the country I am from, is currently in turmoil. I do not fit in there as a person and hate the culture. Its incredibly corrupt with no growth. I am more western, and open minded, and my original country is a strict Islamic country. I do not fit there at all.\n\nI know Canada has all these problems, but its my only choice for a better future, I dont want to go to US because I dont wanna die, also, EU wont accept me unless I am from EU myself or speak their language which is a catch 22. Australia is also becoming a shithole. That leaves Canada and NZ. NZ doesnt have that good of job prospects and limited scope and I love Canada, always have. The weather and everything that comes with it.\n\nYes its not perfect, but I think its more about knowing that I can go back to a place, that is not dangerous for me and my future family, where I will get good care if I am stable job wise. Once I am in Canada, I will probably buy my own land and use that to have a trailer home there since they are still cheap, save my money, and probably retire in Philippines. \n\nI dont believe everyone else should do that and yes I know trailer's costs depreciates with time, unlike a house, but I dont care about that. I dont think of houses as investment and I never will nor I will participate in that practice. Everyone has a right for home.

This lack of access to health care is a new thing. I agree with your assessment. It now seems lonelier in Toronto. \n\nCanada used to be different because anyone with a good job could afford at least a condo, but life became unaffordable not just for immigrants, but for everyone unless you are in your 50s-60s and own a home. \n\nI have friends working double jobs supporting family back home in other countries, but for some of them the family back home sound like they are doing better than them and own a home. It’s like they are sacrificing their life to be in poverty or full of hardships and their families get to go out for dinners and drinks with friends. Not them. Not true for everyone, but for some yes and I worry about their own retirement because retirement in Canada without lots of savings means you might be homeless or forced to live with family even if it’s not your preference. \n\n without investments and savings, it will be hard to beat inflation. Getting into debt and getting bad credit can mean not getting an apartment. \n\nThe birth rate is going down because it is expensive to have kids and income isn’t enough to match with living costs. Getting help from government is really not something everyone gets access too. One person might get housing support, 10 others may get nothing. Different governments offer different things. Programs end and change often. \n\nIn Canada definitely bargain and shop around for good phone plans. one idea is to get a pay as you go until “Black Friday” then every year or two when your good offer expires there will be many others. It’s the time with the best deals saving almost half. For instance, I have 50 gigs for $25 for two years from a large provider. Telephone companies are the one place where people must bargain and even ask for better deals as a must.\n\nThe people you see living in big houses, will have kids that can’t afford the same. This is because prices keep rising. The system protects the very rich, but will also drain the middle class often within 1-2 generations. Do not link your business to your personal finance, or creditors can take your home. Some not knowing this lose everything and rich people know better. \n\nPeople live until they are very old, so inheritance is pretty much meaningless to rely on, so no matter what your parents have you must hustle in life. \n\nI do think Canada can become what we want over time. Citizens need to fight the trend of great community spaces, restaurants and bars going out of business and dumb corporations move in with bad boring restaurants. Like a McDonald’s where maybe a popular cultural hang out was. \n\nPart of the problem is a lack of mixed income housing areas, so it’s hard to stay living where you grew up. Artists and musicians help make a city great, but many cannot afford to live here.\n\nFamilies and communities staying together means more support for those with young kids and older relatives when they need help. Yet how is this possible in a city that is always pushing out lower income people when wealthier people desire the area. \n\nIn Toronto, every time you move you have to take what is available and that might mean moving an hour away from everyone you know. This weakens communities. Plus, if you live too far from your work you will have no time to socialize for most the week due to travel time. \n\nI think those who grew up in Toronto do have a certain culture of acceptance with others from many cultures, because your friends at school were from all over. But with new migrants sometimes it isn’t until the second generation that their social circles get diverse. This can be isolating and it’s even isolating as those from Toronto eventually leave dreaming of staying in one spot and not forced to move constantly when a landlord investor sells every house you move into. \n\n\nToronto really needs to protect affordability of housing for at least some housing in every section so that people can save money if they live in the city, and not have to leave their communities and be far from their friends and family. \n\notherwise eventually people get sick of the hustle and it’s too tiring to travel 1+ hrs each way to visit someone during Monday to Friday. \n\n20 years ago any professional could at least buy a condo. Not today. There is too much competition now and investors are allowed to buy up all the most affordable housing that once was a pathway to owning a home. \n\nRich policy makers got greedy and destroyed canada and hopefully diversity in leadership will help make Canada better. But they perhaps people knew to Canada can reject this lonely structure and help us rebuild Toronto into an amazing place. \n\nWe need to make sure everyone can afford housing with 30% of their income. I think that will help

Canada cannot make its own money. So what does it do? It has to figure out unethical ways to bring in money. This is done by bringing in immigrants. There is multiple birds with one Stone hit here. Meaning gives immigrants the lie of a better life. So they take all their money that they have in their nation. And they bring it here. That's free money that Canada did not have to work for and now other nations have lost. then they lied to them and tell them that they can get anything they want. For me to get a franchise here while owning other businesses was IMPOSSIBLE 5 yrs ago. But these guys with no credentials are getting it right away. I wasn't allowed to modify my house or rent by law. And they are now allowing all of that. My mother had an international driver's license from France and she had to go through hoops to get her licence here. They are handing things over with no screening to these people which is cause instability and chaos. No structure. They let them bring their huge money here and put into franchises with no credentials. Bank loans free approval no questions asked. Meanwhile, most of those franchises will never make any money. Then they will take that money also, and put it into homes. Rent etc, and this is the part where they basically drain the immigrant money in an instant and put it into Canada economy. Now that you have all these immigrants buying all these businesses. Now you need slave work, so you start Bringing it more immigrants to work those slave jobs. Because in the 1990s, all the way up to 2010. You were encouraging Education. During that time Education was the money Maker. So you kept pushing that. Billions went to universities. Telling people that they'll have a better future. That was the lie of that time. Now you want the same people to work min wage jobs. Now immigration is a bigger Money maker. They say they're bringing in these guys Because they want to work these jobs that a canadians don't want to work. That's because you just made those fake jobs by creating more immigrants to come here have franchises that need minimum wage jobs. But you also promised the rest of us that if we worked hard enough, we will get better jobs. So why would we want to resort to minimum wage jobs on top of you ruining the market for housing inflation taxes etc? How could we even afford while working Minimum wage jobs. And that's why they're bringing people in here. This goes deeper than it seems. socialism. then they get mad At us and demand more taxes and more money. But Canada is a closed system. So how can we afford giving you more than we're making? This insanity has to stop. This chaos needs to stop.

For some nations Canada turned into nightmare by spoof call attack. Many people died or killed. This kind of attack using impersonation by foreign country agents to target some people like me and many of my friends. Unfortunately most Asian and black and Latino people easily get fooled and used as a tool for attacker to target some people. Bad neighborhood experience which destroyed my health for life mostly because of spoof call attack. Bad policing which killed many innocent people. Woke laws and culture which marginalized men who are driving force of society. Very weird working experience. Work for yourself or get enslaved by another employer that's why people would love to work for government. Housing prices skyrocketing in big cities and there is no foreseeable future for its remedy. Cold weather for six month of year and at the end COVID force closure killed many of people and hospitalization was so bad. Anywhere there was no hospitalization people life were saved. There is no open market like many countries which are backed by government to buy goods in reasonable price for low income people. Very restricted laws for driver license. Life in Canada is far from normal kills you or make you disable for life without getting you paid. Now I disabled for couple of years and I'm outside of Canada and just my family saved my life because I couldn't work because of disability due to spoof call attack which cause severe peripheral neuropathy. Even there is no any protocol for this illness to get cured and forced me to see many MDs and cost me lots of money. even canadian medical system is getting worse and worse. \nwalk in clinic doctors dont wanna see patients \nI visited 3 different walk in clinics and they all said no\nWhen i visited Toronto one homeless guy tried to hit me, boyfriend and our friend. \nthe homelss guy told us to leave his park so we did and 5 mins later the same homeless guy was hitting one of the bikers in the driving lane. I have lived in canada my whole life. \nHere are the main hurdles:\n1. Cost of realestate and cost of living. You need white collar wages just to be able to rent, not buy, rent an apartment in most major cities. Cost of homes is insane as well.\n2. Jobs often pay low wages below what is needed to afford to live unless its white collar or trades working overtime hours. The jobs that do pay well often get hundreds of applications making your chances lower.\n3. Dentists cost an arm and a leg. The cost of it is insane unless you have a really good coverage plan from your job. \n4. Healthcare moves at a snails pace. Not good if you have a serious illness or disease.\n5. The climate overall sucks. Its not cold. Its ridiculously cold.\n\nMy advice: Be made of money. \nSeriously though, have a huge savings and have a long term financial plan. Getting jobs that pay a living wage here as newcomers here are HARD to get because they always want Canadian work experience. University education from other countries other than the US, UK, or Australia don't count here. Be prepared to live very humbly unless you are just made of money.\n\nI dont even want to live in canada anymore. I am almost 40 and have very little to show for it despite working full time jobs with overtime my whole life. Looking at going almost anywhere but here. The housing crisis and cost of living are the dealbreakers for me. You shouldnt need to be making $75k/year just to afford to RENT a decent apartment. Theres something wrong here.

Canada has become an exclusive club for people who want to own a home or own real estate. Supply side issues but open immigration has made it a real estate haven for investors from all over the world. Black money or not, you can easily bring drug or money laundering, or other dishonest (a.k.a haram) money into Canada, and law enforcement is asleep at the wheel. Canada needs to be more like the US in order to make this country work in the long run. The prince of Nigeria and his relatives would like to buy real estate in Canada? Of course, its a no brainer!

As a Canadian, I love immigration. As a renter though, our government failed us so hard. They defunded our housing in hopes that the private market would pick up the slack. It didn't, then because of our economy/demographics are we had to massively increase immigration. It broke a system that was already crumbling. Now a whole generation of people will never be able to afford to buy their own home many of us can't even afford the rent. Is it that surprising the majority of our legislators are landlords?

Try Australia…..it is just the same, a vast broken system, pot holed roads, not much infrastructure, no secure jobs, unaffordable housing. Our saviour is China, it buys all our produce, so basically a single market. We soured our relations sometime ago with China, and now we are begging on blended knees for her to resume trading with us.

The real problem is Canadian and Provincial governments obsession with taxation rather than investment. All governments all have a spending problem too. \n\nTax our income, tax our after tax dollar that we buy stuff with, tax the stuff we transport goods with, tax the land we live on with after tax dollars, oh yea and let’s tax the money the government rebates us cause that makes sense.

Nothing about the country inspires loyalty or confidence. The leadership, federal and provincial, is a joke. The nation is comprised of people who want to turn a quick profit, and make their money buying and selling houses: that accounts for 20 FREAKING PERCENT of their GDP. There is nothing for a new citizen to rally around - no seriousness about themselves, no desire to build something big for the future, no sense of identity that does not exist in contradistinction to the US. The only good that has come of this disastrous experiment with immigration is that hardly anyone with any options will ever make the mistake that so many others have.

Job market is sluggish, Salary not comparable with US, House Rent are so high, buying a house is a distant dream, inflation is high, education standard is poor kids learn more of LGBTQ+ than math or science, infrastructure not spread out like US, concentration is only in Toronto and within 20 km radius, high cost of living for eg. ridiculus auto insurance premiums, groupism & racisim. I dont think people blend in, healthcare serious wait times. I know no country is perfect but Canada lost its charm in recent times because of politics like in India. Overall US is still better but has its own problem like mass shooting & rising cost of living. If you get lucky US is the right option for now compared to europe.

This is 16x more energy needed than our metabolic engines require. There are 7.7 billion people on earth, but we are burning energy like there are 120 billion of us. He says it is completely unsustainable. I've added this because it seems food prices have not hindered people from buying, nor going out to restaurants, nor ordering take out and having it delivered. Why are food prices going up? Because they can. As for housing, single tenanted homes are probably a thing of the past and most of us may have to consider renting together or buying together as much as other parts of the world have been doing for generations.

It's 100% true. International students are being exploited for tuition money and GIC money. Students have taken huge loans from their home country expecting that they will be able to get jobs and pay off their debt but since last 1 year students are jobless. We are failing to get menial labor jobs. Inflation and rent are sky high and our GIC money is not enough to survive here. I myself sleep hungry sometimes as I don't have enough money to buy food after paying rent. I think if they can't give us jobs and affordable housing, canada should stop calling itself a developed first world country. We should call out the whole system for keeping international students in inhumane conditions.

You are politicizing a health crisis? We lost a million during covid. Huge Canadian ( and the UK) property management companies are in the US buying up blocks of property and jacking up the rent, contributing to our housing crisis. That is an import that has devastated our communities. Canadian companies are making every city a playground for the rich. The definition of a canadain is an american without a gun and public health care... otherwise it is hard to tell the difference.... Canada has almost 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad skating... The province of Quebec which is still part of canada (don't tell them that) has the language police to be as anti-american and any democratic as possible, they only tolerate english if it is in US$ and tax other taxes with the most expensive bloated government of any state north of Mexico. The cartels are envious... all things purchased are imported (except animals and greenhouse tomatoes)are american with the exchange rate of almost 33%... If you are a doctor or nurse or medical specialist trained in western medicine like Europe, Australia, etc. You almost have to start over.... SAD. The only positive thing about coming from another country climate is you have something to compare with.... Personally i was born here so where do i go... A few friends have travelled to the US but have not returned... its warmer in Texas i guess... I will give you my own 10 reasons (not in order of importance):\n1. Rampant unemployment.\n2. Insane housing market to both buy and rent.\n3. Excessive taxation.\n4. Food so expensive even families with two jobs make sacrifices for their children.\n5. A ruined health system.\n6. Goods and services two or three times more expensive than the US.\n7. WHERE are municipal politicians supposedly limiting the construction of homes? I don’t see it. \n\nWe are aware that there are regulations in place to protect buyers and that self-serving industries lobby to do away with, as those protective regulations can reduce profits. Some provincial governments (like Alberta) are highly sympathetic to lobbies and industries, to the detriment of citizens. \nWhy are you not pointing to the fact that successive federal governments of the past stopped funding the construction of lower cost housing (thereby creating more demand AND our number one problem of unmitigated greed throughout the real estate and home building industries? We have some people in government attempting to get more low cost homes built while industries know that they can make more money building houses that are far, far bigger than people NEED. Dumbasses and keep-up-the-Jones folks unwisely buy these homes and then many of them have difficulty affording a lifestyle that they think they are entitled to. Meanwhile, lower income earners have been priced right out the market. Of course, capitalists and real estate investors like Pierre Poilievre will never admit that these are our actual problems. Regulating the construction and real estate industries could have gotten a lot more homes built in higher density for young and lower income Canadians, as well as for our newcomers. \n\nToo much blind and poorly informed anger, selfishness, and foolishness going around. Canadians of the past who pulled together during world wars would call us weak and entitled.

Many of the issues you bring up are the same here, but I am willing to deal with those over the impending chaos we are seeing down here. I am an American living close to the border in Buffalo, but I am considering a move to Canada due to the political climate down here. I would rather pay a little more in taxes & gas than deal with the Christian Taliban we are heading for. The Canadian housing market can be fixed, food prices can come down, but once you start losing rights, it's time to consider your options. When I (a straight white guy in his 50's) can see the writing on the wall, it's getting close to time. That being said, living in a state (New York) that will fight the incoming stripping of our rights, will buy us a few years. I can deal with all the other things (high housing costs, soul crushing medical debt, overpriced college, & out of control gun violence), but we are way too close to a civil war for my comfort. I travel up and down the east coast and don't believe what they are saying, we are way too close to a pre-WW2 Germany situation for anyone to feel safe. The amount of gun owners threatening violence is very concerning.

Socialistic policies eventually ruin every country that buys into that nonsense. There is no free lunch and governments are poorly equipped to manage economies because economic systems are too complex to be centrally managed. Just ask Argentinians, Chinese, Russians, etc. Once China took over Hong Kong, I told my wife that China has just sealed its own fate. Free markets (saddled with only the most necessary of regulatory oversight) have been proven to be the most effective. Unfortunately, much of Europe and even the US has already begun that downward slide.

It boils down to the Liberal Party, which has been in power since 2015, e.g.:\n- high immigration targets and housing/jobs/healthcare/etc can't keep up.\n- decriminalization/destigmatization of drugs (especially in Vancouver)\n- political correctness, censorship, gender ideology, health mandates, soft on some crimes but harsh on thought crimes, etc.\n\nAs for other things like weather and challenges in finding a job, these were always the case but Canada really started to go down when Trudeau became PM.\n\nI migrated with my family as a teen. Parents (engineer and nurse) couldn't find a job in their field. Mom had to start as a care aide while she re-certify as a registered nurse even though she has a masters and taught nursing in a college in the Philippines. Dad had to settle as an appliance technician.\n\nThe 4 of us lived in a single-bedroom basement suite, but we bought a half-duplex in Vancouver in a couple of years, which would be practically impossible these days.\n\nI make a decent amount niw and own 3 properties, but if I have to buy my house at its current market value ($1.9m), I can't afford it. Even that half-duplex, my parents sold it at 6x during a down market years ago.\n\nThen there's crime and drugs: I've worked in the downtown east side of Vancouver since 2006 and the last couple or so years has been really bad - it's like a zombie apocalypse. Glad I work remote and have moved to a suburb around Vancouver. That said, I'm highly considering moving but it's hard with kids and aging parents.

Its interesting that as soon as the US government decided that monopolies where great, things started to fall apart here too. Housing prices are out of control, and homelessness is increasing - along with laws victimizing homeless people. Its like the people who run these companies are mentally ill. They want customers and employees, but they do everything they can to destroy or drive away everyone who could become a customer or employee.\n\nI was lucky to buy something before housing prices went insane. But now there's no way to move anymore because renting is too expensive, and investors just out bid everyone and drive up the prices. I really prefer renting, and I used to always move to be near my current job. But for my next job I would have to waste 15 hours a week to drive to a job I could do just as well at home. If I didn't have family here, I would leave.

We used to build 220,000 houses a year, we are short 3.5 million homes right now, we are losing trades people by the tens of thousands a month this year due to retirements. We will be lucky to build even 200,000 homes in 2023. The rich of the world come here and buy up homes and just sit on them, large corporations have monopolies here and charge us out the butt for services and products. We are all working slaves here. Thanks to Trudeau and the greedy rich selling g us out. I could go on and on. Don't move here you will be stuck like in jail.

Studio apartments in NYC are about $1 million now to buy & maybe $4800- 5K-usd.....US is overeducated & underemployed..don't believe the propaganda...get inline behind the migrants from the southern border at this point. Rent will keep increasing as there is no competitive market. as many of the people in Canada are already operating carousel tax fraud. Look that up on W5 and Canada is doing nothing to stop this, guess where all the ones at the top of that carousel are from? As long as there are ones operating illegal business earning more than the average hard worker being able to afford higher rent the rent will not be decreased but keep going up. Saying that they are bringing in mostly younger people is a lie too, they bring in everyone. That our workers are aging out and there will be nobody to do the work. Let's think about this clearly, as the population grows we need more businesses, more schools, more produce etc... Fact we need the same amount of business for a community based on the size of the community I would think. In the 1800's a small school house was sufficient, a local convenience store was enough with a mail order catalogue etc.. As population grows you need more. We also now have self check outs etc.. We are cutting down Canadas number one resource trees to make way for more and more roads etc.. Having to spend more to change and widen roads, feed these refugees, support them till they get situated, house them for how long, educate, train them, and then hope they can actually adapt and not hate us etc.. Look around the world and not just in our own back yards i.e. what happened in NY today, look at Britain afraid to put up Merry Christmas not to offend or any Christian monuments. Yet we have to tolerate. hmmm As said before I am neither Christian nor Jewish I am Natsarim and view those things as pagan myself but feel this world is going down the wrong path and nobody should have to cave in for the sake of others. Many also come here only to study or take loans and then spend all that money they borrow and then leave, banks offer them special incentives with with welcome to Canada packages and they use it all up, buy goods, then sell them and leave. It was quite a high amount on a special credit card he obtained that he maxed out shopping and then selling the goods. Now I know many can do that sort of thing and some by mistake, but those that have no intent to stay... The point is what is being done to protect us from purposeful frauds.

Like you, I know someone happy with their job, location, medical care and opportunities, but they are also very uncomfortable with the political situation - I'll just say it - Republicans. You need only look at Trump and its followers. Guns over lives (including kids), billionaires over poor, religion over others' freedoms (gay/trans/abortion, etc), mass spread of misinformation (Fox news, OAN, etc) and a personal selfishness and anger which was made very clear during COVID times. It makes them feel like they are walking on eggshells, at least compared to Canada where they lived before and people would look out for each other more (even if they didn't know them). They like the weather, job, opportunities, the USD buying power, and their friends, among many other things, but it just feels excessively risky to them dealing with the combinations of these things. I can completely understand why they and others might want to leave the US.

1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. Especially the newer builds, which are just thrown up as quickly as possible and sold to investors. Policy measures generally all seem to serve to just inflate the price of housing further. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.

If you think it's pricey now to live in Canada just wait till the rest of the carbon taxes kick in.\nI was going to use buying a house as an example but forget that with the cost of housing right now it's already unattainable. Instead we'll go with groceries. The cost of fuel will go up with the carbon tax. So all the steps in getting your veggies to your plate go up. To offset this the feds say through their newly created bureaucracy they will give some people some money back. This does nothing to help the vast majority of us.\n Basically if you voted for the LIberal/NDP government you voted for these higher prices. Enjoy.

Absolutely not !!!\n However, corruption and mismanagement is eating 60-70 % of Canada's revenues\n As an Example : Canadian oil is giving away to American companies almost for free in return of of a royalty fee 3-5% , so, American sell our crude for $100 per barrel but Canada gets only $5 from this $100 , same thing is happening in our mining industries : Gold , Copper, Uranium. \nBecause, Canada DOES not have enough refineries to produce its gas it needs therefore, it has to buy it from USA at a market price !!!\n Canadian electricity is more worse, Qc sells its electricity To USA at 3cents per KWH\nthen Ontario buys it from USA at market price 50-75 cent per KWH\nCanadians are ripped off : for every Dollar the government gives to a special needs or welfare candidate, the government spend $10-$20 to manage this ONE Dollar, things are more worse with natives : the government spend $20 to $30 to manage each Dollar a native candidate gets !!!!!\n Probably !!!!!!
