In a sense I know why (optics), but in another sense, I don’t. Why do so many insist on retaliating against Trump’s tariffs with more or higher tariffs of their own? I think it’d be so much more effective if someone said, “You know, we’ve thought about this, and we have come to realize that tariffs are really bad. So starting tomorrow, we will respond by getting rid of all our tariffs. This will make everything we import more affordable. It will make us richer. We hope other countries will join us! If America insists on making everything they import more expensive, lowering their standard of living, that’s their prerogative and problem!”

If you know you are not getting US ripped in the past, then stop talking plenty and rather get another buyer!!!\nI don't think US is forcing you!!!

I really want to be a part of Canada. They have the most educated culture and the largest middle class in the world right now. And I respect them as a people. Everyone thinks that this is Canada standing up, but what this means is that the Canadians with our economy that is 1/10 that of the US will be taxed at 25% on our imports, this is going to hurt canadians way more than the retaliatory terrifs will hurt the americans. This may also lead to an escalated response from the US exacerbating the effect. I think this was probably the best speech I’ve heard from Trudeau. I’m not a fan of his, but I admire the way he has handled this and stood up for us. I’m deeply touched by the amount of support we are receiving from around the world and especially from our US brothers and sisters. ❤️??

We *all* need to wake up that the US has, plain and simply, become a completely unreliable partner. With allies like these, nobody needs enemies. I think Trump is trying to put all his eggs into Russia. And Russia’s probably going to try to completely take over Ukraine to get their minerals. The US is probably going to start sending their support to Russia. Russia will then give those minerals to the US.

seems like a stupid idea to respond like this. why not instead react by removing the tariffs you already have on our country. that would end it immediately. this war was started long before trump took office. if you think were going to let you continue ripping us off then good luck with that.

I believe that the ultimate wet dream of Trump is to have a bigger nation ie. performing hostile takeovers of neighboring countries and of strategic importance for him (Greenland, Canada, Panama Canal and others). That's really what Trump wanted. No matter the efforts on the border and stopping fentanyl. What have Trump done to stop fentanyl in the US or what have he done to help people get out of their drugs addictions. Have he done an amazing job on that? I don't think so.
