Twenty years ago in Toronto, a one-bedroom apartment could be rented for around $700 a month. Today, a similar apartment costs between $2,500 and $3,000 per month. The government should regulate housing market investments to prevent the pursuit of profits at the expense of ordinary people. \nWith the large influx of immigrants of all kinds, there is increasing pressure on families and individuals to rent or buy housing. For instance, in one neighbourhood, a house has been fitted with two bunk beds per room, with the owner charging $500 to $700 per bed. One can only imagine how many people live in that house and what it looks like in the summer when everyone gathers in the backyard. \nIf the government fails to regulate immigration to align with the real needs of the economy and housing market, what’s next? May people be forced to rent a bed for just eight hours of sleep or resort to living in sheds or makeshift plastic tents on the streets? \nAnd when the economy takes a downturn, leaving people with no income, what will happen then?

The New Zealand Government has looked at problems with certain countries that have an issue with fake documentation, multi identity documentation, failure to attend educational Institutions as a foreign student, false partnership and marriage application. Also the vulnerable class 4 and 5 Accredited Employers Work Visa holders that have been scammed by employers or agents that do not pay wages, provide set hours, lie about providing accommodation etc.. A large percentage of these problems arise from inside these communities. That is for example a Chinese or Indian businesses owner that is a New Zealand Permanent Resident or Citizen sponsoring a Worker from either country and exploiting them.

I worked in India for 6 years and then shifted abroad for a Masters, and now I am pursuing a fully funded PhD. In the UK, what I have observed is that the crop of students arriving from India are by the day lesser inclined towards studies and more in pursuit of the quick buck. Yes, getting a ‘UK based work experience’ is necessary to build the edge to compete against the wider international students post graduation and I have myself worked part-time in profiles which complimented my course in parallel to prioritising studies. However, the increasing trend amongst the masses (I do not want to generalise but yes this is unfortunately true and especially from certain states, the case is magnified: Read Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana) remains getting that student visa to earn quick buck to support themselves financially, chiefly, save up to dole out to so called ‘assignment writers’ which helps them pass the course to further graduate and transfer to a grad visa (again comes at a cost) which allows them 2 years worth of stay with no working hour stipulation post graduation. Thereon, work full time in laborious jobs with again not focussing on applying to full time opportunities in the field of study. Thus, what remains at the end of the day is lost time and opportunity and since I am only talking of people who come here on a Student VISA so primarily, the opportunity cost lost to upskill and further horizons. For the country’s perspective, getting cheap, skilled labour for an unskilled job is obviously an advantage but then there are cases of students not respecting their working hour restrictions, vandalising, bickering loudly, joining hands with the already operating extremist forces which instigate violence and hatred etc. In all, I think the resistance to not becoming bicultural which is a product of serious mental and physical toil and wasting time in frivolity is the main cause of the anti-immigration wave.

Yeah I'm Canadian with a lot of health issues yeah you don't have to pay but sometimes the wait can be long like 21 hours at the emergency + the time to see the er doc and if you need tests that would make it longer. Just recently my waiting time was 16 hours. I live in Ontario and we get a lot of Quebec people because their waiting time can be way much longer.

Getting the visa appointment is hard because of how many people are trying to get out from here, just because everyone else is doing. I'll give up an example. For German national visa, the slots for next 2 months were filled in two VFS centres, ( which two states in India depends on) were filled in an hour. And a lot of those guys who go abroad, ruin the country they go to with their bs from India.

The problem here is Indians using forgery documents while applying for their visa and another classic case is donkey.Continuing to the problem breaking mostly every rule and regulations in foreign soil.Cheap labour is another problem where the basic salary would be 18 dollar an hour and an Indian worker would do it for 12 dollars an hour.There are a-lot of other factors.

For the 50 lacs Indians who work in USA directly for American clients, it feels so great not to work in India and give commission to greedy capitalists like Narayana Murthy. Client dollars come directly to their pockets and with 1 dollar = 87 rupees they reach their retirement nest egg faster and achieve FIRE (financial independence retire early) in their 40s. And yes work for 40 hours and every extra hour is extra pay. No 70 hour work per week exploitation allowed in USA.

I know a Indian friend who when he was a student due to climate issue got in a delayed flight in UAE, he hates politics but he follows a philosophy that's eye for an eye, and that is if everyone can be a thief nobody will be a thief, if you steel from me, I've the right to do the same, he was denied a 1 day visa by the UAE government and had to stay in the airport for 15 hours, he was angry, while others in the flight was given a 1 day visa, so say 15 years later, he is running his own business abroad, got a chance in open interview to interview students, saw one was a UAE citizen, he never took the interview for him, his philosophy, after 15 hours of waiting, he will take that student's interview, he took other's interview, after time was over he left the office and later the student left, his attitude is he as the right to do the same.

Never paid for an ambulance, 2 colonoscopies, laser surgery for dysplasia, throat surgery, CT or MRI, blood work, doctor visits, tubes tied, doctor-patient phone visits/prescription refill calls, 2 hospital month long stays for Crohn's, ER visits for seizures, dehydration from some family circulated bug and several for shots of Demerol or Morphine for severe menstrual cramps or fixing my 16+ hours of acid reflux (recently). Romanian here, with 8 years in Germany, still debating if a citizenship is worth the effort though I use German both at my work place and for regular tasks. \nMy opinion is that Germany has a chaotic approach to absorbing skilled workers. \nI agree completely with the statement that this approach led it to absorb, far more easily, unskilled and, a lot of times, problematic immigrants rather than skilled professionals. I see this happening in communities and online groups. Oh, no… our emergency room wait times average is probably around 3 hours (give or take). While 15 to 20 minutes sounds absolutely awesome, it’s not happening here, unfortunately. You just show your OHIP card (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) and the wait is probably less than an hour to be seen. Our Walmarts have walk-in clinics, for example. Easy access, less wait times. Of course, these clinics are not for major emergencies such as heart attacks, bleeding, broken bones, etc., but they definitely come in handy if you don’t have a family physician.

When the richest countries in the world and the poorest are seperated by a two hour plane flight controlled immigration is an exercise in futility. I moved to Canada upon retirement at age 60. Best decision! I’ve had good experiences with the Ontario and Nova Scotia healthcare. As I didn’t have emergencies, I didn’t wait more than a month for specialists. Canadians don’t like travelling to get appointments sooner which is common in the US. \nMany here think emergency room wait times in the States is much shorter, but I’ve accompanied friends in New York State for treatment only to wait over eight hours. \nHere in Niagara Falls, Canada my ex had a kidney stone causing great pain. The wait time to get morphine and treatment was about 45 min. \nI got a colonoscopy in four days here. In the US I waited three months. \nNo cost or copayments, and there are no in-network requirements that I know of. \nI would not live in the US again. Visiting is just fine!
