The US isn't launching a trade war against anyone. We are closing up shop and are getting ready to take care of our own. There is a massive difference. We cannot be expected to continue supporting other countries economies and defense obligations, when we have 2 generations of working class citizens unable to afford a home or have children. We have entire countries we could fill with the homeless and incarcerated, and veterans who see little to no positive treatment or respect within the job market. Things are already very very bad here in the states. I don't think many Americans realize how bad the economy is. Tariffs will force US companies to reduce the outsourcing of jobs, and force other countries who are over-reliant on trade from the States, to cultivate their own self-sufficiency. This may seem hypocritical when it comes to China, but that isn't a problem you can solve overnight. \n\nTo make it clear, Americans are going to suffer in the wake of this tariff decision, but that is the price we pay to force ourselves to change. We have made ourselves into a very weak country because of overreliance on other countries trade, and other countries overreliance on our intelligence, infrastructure, medical advancements, technological advancements, and defense capabilities. The american consumer and taxpayer front the bills for all of this, and they are suffering. This isn't a war on the rest of the world. It us telling everyone else that we can no longer be relied upon because we are weak. \n\nI didnt' even vote Trump the first two times he ran. But things have now gotten so bad that I was forced into voting for him this time. Why? Because he's a bull in a china shop. I expect him to tear every damn thing apart he can within our government. I want everything destroyed so it can be rebuilt by people who aren't complacent.

Everything the U.S. has done it has done to itself and the U.S. government is to blame for putting its own citizens at risk and jeopardizing the security of Americans by marginalizing domestic civilians to the role of consumer to the point that families get torn apart and homes get wrecked. Trump is attempting to offset his tax cuts by implementing a tax that isn't called a tax. All of the money from the tariffs goes to the government. Trump has mentioned when tariffs were common as supporting what he is doing, but he doesn't add that at that time, there wasn't an income tax, so tariffs were how the government supported itself. Trump, knowing that tariffs are income for the government, is lying to his base so they will accept the increased prices as a necessary evil to battle the bad countries of Mexico and Canada. It will look like his tax breaks aren't hurting as much as they are and price increases will be the fault of the other countries.\n\nTrump is a conniving grifter with no knowledge of how to run a country's economy or international trade. He is gaslighting the American public to cover his own shortcomings.\n\nAlso, if fentanyl is entering the US, why is it the fault of the other countries? It is the job of the US to stop anything on its side of the border. Canada and Mexico do what they can to catch the drugs while inside their respective countries. The tons of cocaine and guns that enter Canada and Mexico from the US are caught by their border services; they don't blame the US for the products getting past their own border agents, and the US takes no responsibility for it making it across the border. Why is it other countries' fault for drugs getting past the US's border agents, but not the fault of the US that guns and drugs are going in the other direction? That is why countries work together, not fight over whose fault it is and try to punish each other.

Trump has disappointed many many Americans with this decision and his opposition to Ukraine—he will regret this, Canada our closest friends and supporting 3 years of Putin sickening terrorist attacks of Ukrainian civilians! I voted for Trump, but he is only ONE branch of our government, a Democracy, not Authoritarian! Our legislators should override Trumps decision, it takes 2/3 approval by our House and Senate and it does not matter what Trump does, he cannot Veto! If anyone is wondering about the reason of Trump's tariffs: Tariff is source of revenue for the government which is not based on salary. The rich and the poor of the USA will pay the same amount of it for a specific product. This revenue will then serve the US government to decrease the income tax, which is based on percent of revenue (i.e higher income people pay much more taxes). The tax cuts means those with higher revenue will get to keep more of it. So at the end of the day more of the governments revenue will come from those with lower revenue. Thus unfortunately widening the gap between the rich and the poor.

It's not about immigration or fentanyl. This is about following direction from putin. He has divided the people within our country and now separated us from our allies. What Trump seems to try to get at most is the unfair act of the USMCA. Most trades benefited Canada, while Canada refused to provide the same fair trades. Sometimes Trump does say things that may have gone off track like fentyl handling on Canada's end and border handling. It seems like our borders at the time were less strict on the American side versus the Canadian side of the border. Trump did state multiple times that most countries like Canada were unfair to USA. Tariffs are acceptable IF the taxpayers get the equivalent amount off their tax liabilities. If not... it's a cash grab by ANY government from their own people.
