I learned something new today from watching this documentary, the fact that they actually named a town & a park Africville in the great white north. Some people are naive while others are not when it comes to racism. The very fact of the world has been conquered & dominated with the white supremacy mentality leave very little to be surprise that Canada had slaves. I think from what I've come to understands is that having slavery for 250 yrs most white Canadians will pretend to not be racist, but it's like those two kids in your class the one who had the paper thrown at him & the one who did it doesn't act like he did anything & the rest are just as bad because they saw who did it but are complicit by not saying anything. No one wants to be the rat, but at the same time they all know why the one kid that threw the paper did it & the one that had it done to them knows exactly why.

It be better if the face was not covered. Its creates undo fear. It creates security issues. It creates issues with ID. We live in a time of hyper sensitivity to any reference to men and women being different. Islam doesn't bend to social trends, and this upsets people. I just wish feminist and politians would let women choose for themselves. I wish people who passionately oppose Islam would equally try to understand Islam.

There is a reason for that concern. The Canadians , Britishers , Americans or Europeans doesn’t have that sort of a concern for people believing in Hinduism or Buddhism , How much hard liberals and the so called progressive media try to polish muslims, they should understand that People have something called Logical thinking.

This question is based in ignorance, i TRULY dont know so dont hate but if someone has a real answer please give. Why not stay home and band together and fix your own country ? 90% of people of any culture/race are good, so instead of caravans and border jumping, coyotes stay their and fight. Its my understanding that many many people die or are raped trying to do what..become a criminal in a country that doesn't want you? Everything is risk vs reward. By these comments, Canadians hate immigrants even more than American white supremacists. This man is scared for himself and his family. His case is just ignorance. He doesn’t know the proper ways to go about it. Him getting a lawyer and what not has showed he’s a bit smarter than many immigrants seeking asylum but most cases people don’t know the proper way to migrate out of their countries. They just know that there are better and safer opportunities elsewhere. As for everyone whining about why he doesn’t speak English, not EVERYONE CAN LEARN AT THE SAME PACE. There’s people that live in other countries for years and only know enough to get around and then theres people that just pick up on languages In less than a year. The language doesn’t matter. I’m sure he knows enough to communicate with people. I’m more surprised at the amount of people that law this and law that. Yes there are laws that should be followed but do people even consider morality? I hope none of you alls countries go to war or are over taken and you have to try to seek asylum in another country because I highly doubt you all would escape the ‘proper’ way. illegal immigrant, and trying to be a refugee. Im confused why he is confused. People need to do more wiki reading before taking big risks with their family to break immigration law. And say what you want about us western nations, we are very lax when it comes to enforcing all of these laws becaue it is so easy for illegal immigrants to hide among legal immigrants or US citizens of shared culture or ethnicity. Sick of hearing stories like that, I understand the fact that she doesn't represent any Canadian, ( including herself since she was drunk and said sorry later) but still annoying. My concern is the other Canadians, Individual haters always exist but stop those individuals up to other Canadians. Easy to tag muslims as *terrorist or *isis or easy to tag white people as *racist or *hater. As a community we should be able to stop those behaviors even before it starts , then we can be a strong community and live in a harmony .

I would venture to suggest that part of the problem is one of language barrier? He's been in the US for 15 years and he's been in Canada for 2, and even now, he doesn't speak or understand a word of English! If he desires to live in Quebec later, he will also need to speak French? He really won't go far in any English/French language country, if, after all that time, he hasn't mastered the most basic terms in anything but Spanish!

I don't understand what's the point you're trying to make with this video. It seems like you're trying to blame Canada and Trudeau for the situation that he is in; You (VICE) place emphasis on his situation and his family, trying to drum up sympathy for him, but the way I see it is, he's to blame for it. He came here of his own volition and with a family by trying to get around the system. That's doesn't make him sympathetic, it makes him stupid and naive and impulsive. Frankly, it insulting and infuriating because there are people who wait YEARS and pay thousands of dollars who are actually in need of coming to Canada. And now, because of people like him is the reason why the system is backed up to point of instead of waiting for 60 days, you have to wait as much as 20 months before you hear back (which unfortunately, encourages more border-hopping and situations exactly like this)

I’m not Canadian, so I don’t have as much of an understanding of their process; however, much like in the U.S., you have to have a legitimate and compelling reason to seek asylum, for example, those escaping a literal war in Syria where death was imminent. Not that I don’t have compassion for this man wanting to better his life and that of his family, but seeking asylum from El Salvador because they have a lackluster economy, crime and violence (while a good enough reason to relocate elsewhere) isn’t a case for asylum. *shrug* Asylum is meant for exigencies, emergencies, imminent danger, which doesn’t look like it applies here. My guess is this man thought seeking asylum would be a way to go around needing expensive documents to do a standard immigration and the process flopped on him.

so I just have one question... Why is it that black people are being followed in department stores? Think really long and really hard about that... Here in America it is because we have a huge problem with the black community feeling entitled and running through stores and just taking what they want ( flash mobs). The reason they are profiled isn't because of their skin color, it's because they are known, as a culture, to be Thieves who have been told they're entitled. that doesn't mean I believe that it's right, I just understand why people are leery of a culture that feels that it's okay for them to steal and take whatever they want. Nor do I believe all people with that skin color are part of that culture.

He illegally enters the U.S., doesn't seem to understand why ICE wants to deport him.  So he illegally enters Canada and doesn't seem to understand why they want to deport him.  So instead he plays the system by moving about to get his case 'put to the bottom of the pile' to cheat yet MORE time to stay in Canada illegally.  Then when he gets told 'NO', he changes up and says he no longer in any danger of returning but now it's humanitarian.  Time to pack up and move back to El Salvador and turn your home country into what you want it to be.

The most racism I experienced in school was from teachers. Its the most profound kind of racism, because they are authority figures. The thing is when your fellow students display racism it doesn't have the same gravity as it does when your teacher does it because you know your teacher does know better but they truly believe it.In University, I actually had a teacher give a lesson that was so tinged with racism that it really broke me down, because what I've come to realize is that so many people think that being racist is saying actual racist words and don't understand that perpetuating stereotypes are the most prevalent forms of racism.  It is demoralizing because it feels like a losing battle when your teacher is perpetuating racially disparaging ideas to an entire class, and you think about how many people are going to be influenced by that idea and in turn perpetuate it. I realized that this teacher really insidiously believed what she was saying was true, but that it just wasn't politically correct to say it. The main principle of white privilege is that white people get to be individuals but people of colour get grouped together by the most base stereotype of their race.  I don't think Black-focused schools are the solution. I think more integrated schools with diverse populations of students and teachers are the solution.\n Then there are concrete issues of race, space and the law. For example when you come to realize that carding continues in Toronto, and that most residents do not care that young Black men are being harassed and treated like criminals by the police because it does not affect their community, it makes you wonder if people are only inclined to feel empathy for those who look like them.

Understand wanting a better life but this is what you put your family thru when you go into a country that you do not have citizenship and just expect to stay. You should try to do things ahead of time or enter the country legally and go from there. You wouldn't have had to flee to Canada if you hadn't snuck into the United States. Most of these people don't even try to enter the country legally and go about it the right way. They just come on in and then cry when shit doesn't go their way down the road.

While I understand the anxiety the Muslim woman in the video feels, her accent is as Canadian as it can be which tells me she probably was born in Canada or came here as an infant. She's obviously had enough time to assimilate. She either has or hasn't. If she has, she's being discriminated against for no other reason than that she's Muslim, which speaks to a mindset that is being espoused by Stephen Harper. When your leader says the things he's saying it doesn't speak well of the country. It would be more honest if he blocked all immigration of Muslims to Canada, but then the Muslims would really have a case if other nationalities were allowed in. Given Canada's small population they're kind of stuck.

Tolerance is not a one way street. Speaking as a white man I have to admit I don't quite understand the need for anyone to organize as a race in Canada. First generation clubs from whatever country, sure, but as a race? Is it the elephant in the room... American slavery?  I can't help but think that most perceived problems blacks have in Canada are due to American issues we see in movies and media.\nWe in Canada bend over backwards to offer opportunity to succeed. Even touching on racism is widely and loudly crushed. I personally, as do most, give any individual the opportunities they deserve but it's up to them to screw it up or not. To me, if any minority can't make it in this society they aren't trying.\nIt's actually worse in my mind to be white male in public forums because our views and opinions are marginalized and shouted down. Youtube and the internet are the few forums where honest feelings and opinions can be spoken. No one with anything to lose would say this in public for fear of attacks from the thought police.
