Trump is setting the stage for China to replace the USA as a key export partner to these tariff threatened nations. All it would take is China to accept delivery of products impacted by US tariffs at the pre-tariff price. China wants better S American commerce and these tariff threats provide the opportunity for China to swoop in and save the day. If I lead China I would be phoning every nations leader personally guaranteeing to do just that before another threat came out of Trump. While it might cost China in the short run, seeing the world wide collapse of the USA's economic influence in favour of China would serve them well.\nFor the last century the USA has learned to played reasonably well with others, shedding off most of its protectionist policies in favour of cooperation and negotiation. This made it a strong economic nation that individuals wanted to become citizens of. Nations trusted the USA, but in just a few days under Trump that century long journey to world leadership has been fully undermined.\nThe most known Statue Of Liberty quote of “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” was the old America, a much different time than today. The poem under Trump's policies should read “Take our tired, our poor, our huddled masses yearning to escape persecution”.

Once a president is allowed to do something like this, it just shows me that he doesn't respect people's basic human rights. We are opening the door to him to do whatever he wants to all American citizens. None of us are safe.

don’t judge too much. I’m not saying this is good for anyone that is living in ????. we already have a very bad housing crisis etc happening . but i definitely understand why they come.i have great empathy for them .. i feel horrible for them. these people aren’t lining up for black Friday deals or Taylor Swift tickets. these human beings are living in poverty, in danger in their own home countries. I earned my permanent resident status back in 2001 and joined US ARMY during war in terror and served for 8 years. While serving, I was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in the middle of hot zones, dodging grim reaper's radar for many, many times. When I finally earned my US citizenship through military, I seamlessly transitioned into law enforcement career in New York for past 10 years, which I encountered with many illegal criminals with rap sheets- which some makes you think why they are still wondering in the street instead of locked up in the jail, having their freedom taken away. What is funny is that many of these illegal criminals have such an entitled mindset that they are deserve to be here in US without permit do whatever they want and enjoying these unbelievable benefits that these sanctuary city/state provides that we, us citizens don't even get- and we are paying for it with our hard earned money. I think I earned my citizenship with blood and sweat, same goes to many immigrant hopefuls that came to U.S with true American dream. It is time to take back our country and I 100% support with Trump's decision on this.

If I want to work in the USA, I have to apply for a visa and work permit, present my documents, qualifications and credentials, plus criminal record and health check, show that I have adequate medical insurance and enough money to fund my stay. If granted permission to come, I then have to present myself at an official port of entry.\n\nALTERNATIVELY, I can fly to Colombia, pay gangsters to guide me through the Central American jungle, sneaking clandestinely through several countries along the way, and pay the local cartel to smuggle me illegally across the southern US border. Then I get free transport to a US destination of my choice, free housing, free clothes and personal items, free healthcare and legal advice, and a work permit without all that pesky paperwork.

Too many Indians trying to move abroad. Just because India’s economy is rising doesn’t give you passport to move abroad. We don’t want Indians in US from sub standard universities. We don’t want Indian workers to cut American workers. Stay back in your country. No one from US or EU is trying to relocate to India

There was an Indian music troop that came to the US to perform, maybe 20 people, including singers, musicians, comedians etc. After their tour in the US, half of them did not return to India. They figured they can make a better living in the US and live here as an illegal immigrant. This is too common. The next time when a troop of musicians want a US visa, chances are the immigration office will think twice about approving a visa. I can travel anywhere with a US passport because people know that Americans will return back to the US.

These are east Indians coming from the UK. They had US visas from the UK. What is Canada to do when they are in transit passengers from the UK and given fake or real but seems fake US visas. All international intransit passengers dont go through customs at their stop over country. Its an international fact. The East indians knew that if they boarded their flight to the US they would get sent back to the UK and hence India so they decided to illegally cross our border. You are absolutely right. Some of the recent Indian imports to Canada and US are totally unsuitable to reside out of India. Thank you for summarizing these key changes! Many problems are actually the Canadian immigration system not learning from the mistakes of the US system and now it’s suffering the same consequences. If Canada cuts down on those selected immigrations but still takes in refugees, it’s only going to make anti-immigrant sentiment worse. Selected immigrants are allowed into Canada to help alleviate Canadian issues…or at least people who come through Express Entry are less likely to become a burden. On the other hand, refugees, given their unfortunate circumstances, really need to rely on a lot of social services and resources to help them resettle. The US has eliminated pretty much all non-humanitarian immigration that’s why immigrants are so demonized there. Americans only feel the drags of refugees and asylum seekers (even though ethically we need to protect them) and there is no selected immigration to balance that out. Yet this round of Canadian policy change is heading exactly that direction.\n\nIt used to be international students in Canada are not paying a lot more tuition than Canadian students. But Canadian universities saw how much money universities in the US are making so they asked the federal government to change the policy to enable them to charge international students several times the regular tuition (whereas in countries like France, international students actually pay less than citizens). So now Canadian universities rely too much on international students to operate and it becomes an exploitative relationship even before students step foot on the campus. The new PGWP eligibility is awful because students can make contributions in every field. It might (and that's a big if) address the pressing problems, but it won't help Canada grow.\n\nI thought the new language requirement was interesting. Some Canadians who immigrated decades ago when the bar was really low still speak English poorly and now they are saying people can’t come to Canada because their language skills are not sufficient. Another point about language is if you apply through Express Entry now, even if you scored the highest language score, given how competitive the pool is, you still won’t get selected. So it’s a given that you need to be fluent in one of the languages at least to get an invitation. Manufacturing is not coming back the the US no matter the tariffs Trump imposes. America has to concentrate on the manufacturing that we lead which is High Technologies, Fuel, and Agriculture. Trump wants to destroy the Department of Education when what we should be doing is making education a priority, even in higher education. Making it easier and less expensive for Americans to get higher education. Trump's policies are going to completely destroy the world economy and in doing so cause a massive recession in the US.

It could work in an economy not dependent on excess and consumerism, but the US economy is propped up on speculation and buying out of want rather than need. Deflation is considered an economic failure in this country. We target 2% inflation for fear that without it, people will buy less now and then there will be a downward correction on output and then jobs. \nIn any case, broad tariffs won’t be the answer to lower prices. A global economy is an efficient one, but often unfair or unkind in specific localities. The US has benefited from globalization and low cost labor elsewhere for decades. But the pendulum swung too far and now many Americans are feeling left behind. Tariffs could bring back jobs but on a 5 to 10 year timeline, not one 4-year presidential term, much less in a year.

Im mexican, and all this makes me sad, cause president Trump make American citizens to believe we are all criminals, bad people, that all of us wants to go to USA. And that is not true, a lot of us are happy living in our country, work here, and be with our loved ones here in Mexico. The US is much more economically stronger than Mexico so the US would prevail. Also, what case does Mexico have? They don’t want to stop drugs or illegal entry into US? If tariffs costs are not paid by the country they're placed on, then why would she care?
