Haha. I see a lot of ignorance in this comment section. We treat immigrants and asylum seekers with a little more respect than the United States. It's not perfect but I rather these people have a place to stay while they are processed then locked in cages. I rather get more tax payers in the long run. Most immigrants and refugees pay more tax and work harder then Canadian born citizens.

15 years in the U.S. and he didn't learn English? Two years ago I went on my church's annual week-long missions trip to Guatemala and absolutely hated the fact that I couldn't understand what people were saying around me. I immediately started studying Spanish so I could go back without fretting myself into fits over not being able to communicate. If I can learn Spanish for an annual trip, he and others like him can learn English when they come to stay in the U.S.

He lived in the USA for 15 years and managed to save at least $15,000 dollars. He then chooses to go to Canada, putting his family in the same illegal situation as here. Not sure why he left El Savador, but 15 years is a long time. Chances are the reason is no longer valid, so he should have been able to take his family back and live quite well.

This is really simple. Don't offer people free stuff. And don't make special exceptions for people. There are tons of people that come to canada (many just visiting or working) and just stay here rather than go through the proper steps (and get denied) because they know some bleeding heart liberals looking down on them will offer a bunch of them amnesty if they wait long enough and pay off the right people. You don't have to live in toronto very long to meet people who have taken advantage of the system in this way.

The US accepts about 1 000 000 immigrants per year. For a population of about 300 million people. Canada accepts about 300 000 immigrants per year, for a population of about 35 million people. So that means the US should accept about 10 000 000 immigrants per year. Or Canada about 30 000 immigrants per year.\n\nSo dont try to compare your-self with Canada on immigration. They did the same thing to my husband. He married a Canadian woman and had Canadian children... But that wasn't enough... Then he was robbed and assaulted in a bad part of town which gave him extra time only because the supreme court wanted to prosecute the assailants who had attacked my husband... If it werent for the attack he would have been deported at least a year earlier... My husband had legitimate reasons to not want to return to his home country (also Honduras) and aside from that he has children and a wife....\n\nThey say there are laws and this and that... That a refugee cannot enter illegally into Canada and become a successful Canadian....that they have to enter legally.... But how can they enter legally when they cannot get a visa in their own country.... Now we are pushing for humanitarian and compassionate grounds... Trudeau is a weak leader. He showed he is unable to put his emotions aside long enough to make a rational decision based on what's best for his country and immigrants/refugees. Then he had to back-track, but not until he had caused additional and unnecessary hardship. This shows his lack of maturity which to me, makes him an unfit leader. Leaders need to have the intestinal fortitude to make tough decisions based on projected consequences, even it means his numbers take a temporary dive in the polls. \n\nTrudeau obviously views compassion as a positive trait and it is, but only when balanced by wisdom. Otherwise, it leaves a person open to being reactionary, rather than proactive. Compassion applied unwisely leads to its opposite which is cruelty as was demonstrated as the outcome in this video. If Trudeau was really compassionate he would not have spoken in a way that gave false hope.

I worked construction in my summers and I know skilled carpenters, even the ones that never went to trades school, can easily make $45/hr in Calgary if they subcontract or even $40 on payroll and its not even boom times. A lot of guys I worked with were easily clearing $100 000 a year but the problem is they choose to buy brand new pickup trucks on instalments or have overall poor saving habits. Hours are really long too. What I noticed about wages in Vancouver and Toronto are that they are really bad for construction workers, I know a guy in Vancouver whose a layout journeyman making only $21 a hour, a labourer in Calgary starts out at usually $19-20.
