This is strange, how they chose a subject for reportage. Refuge status is not for everyone who want to improve there economic situation. He must to prove that his life and life of his family was in danger, that he was discriminated and absolutely not have other choice, but ask for refuge in other country. It is very difficult to prove, even if it is true. 90% of all entry asking refugee status will go home. It look like he should try to make professional immigration and not waste his time on something that he never receive\nIt is amazing, how he feel in title, real refuge simply not have 15000$ to spend on lawyers \nJournalist must learn a little bit about subject before report on it.

Everybody always want to immigrate to the north if your life is in that much Danger you had to pass through to other countries before making it to the US or Canada why not settle in Mexico Guatemala or he'll try going south to escape.

RE: Canadian healthcare, my wife broke both her hips in 2017 in two separate falls, she was admitted immediately to hospital without delay and operated on the next day (half hip replacement), after physio and occupational therapy she was discharged and provided Homecare, 16 times per week plus weekly Day Hospital. Our cost for both operations was roughly $160.00 for parking spots for me so I could visit her and about $140 in Tim Horton doughnuts for staff. The system does not have enough of certain types of specialists thus wait times for those specialists, and there are wait times for elective surgery. The system has not really been reviewed since its inception in the 1960s but making significant changes is the third rail of Canadian politics and a hard look is justified after 70 years. Re: illegal crossings; The gentleman in the video has a problem in that the US and Canada have signed a “safe country” agreement and neither will accept refugees from the other as both Canada and the US are deemed “safe havens”. He crossed illegally, if he had crossed legally he would have been immediately turned back at the border but he clearly entered the country between border crossings and was likely arrested and released on recognizance but not returned immediately as the agreement is silent on illegal entries (yes, seems a touch strange). As many people are leaving the US for Canada the system is overwhelmed. Tent cities have been set up in Quebec and public housing used in Manitoba to house illegal immigrant pending processing - those with criminal records are held for deportation. Canada has accepted roughly 25,000 Syrian refugees from camps in that part of the world. These refugees were first vetted by the UN then Canada. These refugees are completely different from the people crossing the border illegally from the United States. This pales to the 75,000 boat people accepted after the fall of Saigon. Canadians have been generally accepting of refugees but wants the process guided by the rule of law. Immigrants are a separate from refugees and the rules governing their entries into Canada are different.

What a fucked up situation with these poor people. It's not fair that their country of origin is so fucked up that they risk it all to leave. It's also unfair for them to think they can just make their way to the US or Canada and live there illegally. The world is a big place an there are people from all over who want to leave and come live in the US but they have to do it the right way. My cousin is from Italy and she speaks 5 languages, she was top of her class and she can't get a permanent visa to live in the US. So why is it that if she can't get in with her qualifications, why do people from South and Central America think they can just do what they want and they get mad when they get deported?

Laws are laws you seek asylum in the first safe landing not your choice of wherever whenever. Why then can I not leave Canada and go live in another country undocumented then when I fear deportation just go to another country? Because it's illegal yeah. Ugh we are not here to be used and walk all over like a doormat especially if you are not working and paying taxes but taking everything you can get. There are plenty of people in dangerous situations like ukrane and other war torn areas that legit need a place he and his family were already in the US they shouldn't have left there to make fake claims here. It should be more easy to invade another country and use their welfare system for noncitizens... I’m saying that the USA should invade Mexico and they should pay for our US Citizens to live in Mexico as undocumented invading illegal aliens. The issue is that the intending migrants and the general public are ignorant as to asylum law. The public think of asylum as some far reaching, grandiose humanitarian gesture- when the truth is that asylum laws provide an EXTREMELY LIMITED basis of relief. \n\nMerely coming from a dangerous country is NOT enough to win asylum, in the U.S. or Canada. A person must prove they are specifically persecuted, by the GOVERNMENT, because of some specific basis. A Central American claiming Central America is full of gangs and poverty, while true, is NOT a basis for asylum. This is why it's my personal belief that the thousands of Haitians making a run for the Canadian border have an almost zero chance of receiving asylum- ESPECIALLY after NOT living in Haiti for many years. \n\nIn spite of this, migrants still make these claims because it forces the country to go through a time consuming legal process, and is a way to buy time and prevent their deportation. Or perhaps allow them time to find a local job, continue their education, or have a child born in the country and then make a humanitarian argument to allow them to stay, even after losing their asylum case. \n\nThe truth is, unless a country holds asylum seekers in detention for the entirety of the process, it's a given that failed asylum seekers will NOT return to their country of origin, and will simply go underground.

Getting a visa or any form of legal residence in Canada is a pain in the ass, I know because I've tried. I was gonna move up there full time from Los Angeles at one point and I spent 10 full months applying and waiting and still got denied. I wasn't even a refugee either, they make you prove what you have to contribute to the country as far as skills and education and it's very difficult to get accepted

I feel bad for them but as a Canadian, do I want them to become Canadian (prob will not pay income tax cause they won’t make a lot of money, being near poverty line)(and will require lots of help from the government)? Or someone from a rich country that goes through investment method to gain PR card (injecting 100-200k into local companies in cash for pr card)(they will most likely buy expensive stuff from our local economy). Let me know what you think guys think. I want 90% of the immigrants to be the latter. Can’t let all the poor peoples in or we will go bankrupt as a nation. This is reality

I dont feel sorry for him at all he knew what he was doing. He knew he was breaking the law he knew his family would be breaking the law by crossing the border illegally. I don't feel sorry for him for his wife or for his children. If he would have come across the right way he wouldn't be fighting to make sure he didn't go back to Mexico. So if you were in such a dire situation, dont you think you would do anything to get out? The fact that developed countries are starting to close off their borders to low skilled immigration for lack of resources and employment could be a sign of the times and automation will eventually take over. For everyone that is angry about the US immigration system, we have some of the most accessible immigration programs in the world. Many countries will never let you become a citizen if you aren't born there and yet we make citizens out of immigrants everyday. You just cant sneak in and hope to wait it out, though. Go through the process, learn the language and assimilate properly.

It’s not any safer in any country than their own. They need to come to the realization that they need to stay in their countries & make the best of it because the US isn’t gonna be playing games much longer & Canada doesn’t want the issue moving up north.

You need to accept that Canada, United States, and other countries do not want you. Take your loss and go back to El Salvador. Make your money back.

Something tells me that Canada doesnt provide refugee status to people who fear being deported from a country they're already not supposed to be in... that doesnt make sense.

More people are killed or injured traveling in car than in a mountain bike. There are 50 states in the USA so most statements you make may refer to just one or two states. Canada has 10 provinces and the health care is slightly different in each province. Wait until you have lived in any country for a few years before you can talk authoritatively about it. Canada is a good country to live in so is Australia but even better are some or the northern or western countries in Europe where health care is affordable and good and food is affordable and good. The USA has more millionaires and billionaires and a lot of them are in government. Think about that. Lots of guns and judging by the news quite a few racist cops who never get punished. Think about that too. Bad water in many places; also worth thinking about. There are more lobbyists than there are legislators and they all make money; think about that and ask yourself why.
