I don't know why all of Latin America thinks that the USA and Canada have the responsibility of taking care of the people from Latin American Countries. I say let them fix their own countries. Mexico for example, has every resource that the USA has. Coal, oil, natural gas, mineral mines of every type, timber industries, rich farm land, etc..... You name the resource, Mexico has it. Yet the corruption of the Mexican Government keeps the people poor. Well I say, fix it!!! Don't come here looking for a new life. Fix the problem in your own country by any means necessary.

The issue is that the intending migrants and the general public are ignorant as to asylum law. The public think of asylum as some far reaching, grandiose humanitarian gesture- when the truth is that asylum laws provide an EXTREMELY LIMITED basis of relief. \n\nMerely coming from a dangerous country is NOT enough to win asylum, in the U.S. or Canada. A person must prove they are specifically persecuted, by the GOVERNMENT, because of some specific basis. A Central American claiming Central America is full of gangs and poverty, while true, is NOT a basis for asylum. This is why it's my personal belief that the thousands of Haitians making a run for the Canadian border have an almost zero chance of receiving asylum- ESPECIALLY after NOT living in Haiti for many years. \n\nIn spite of this, migrants still make these claims because it forces the country to go through a time consuming legal process, and is a way to buy time and prevent their deportation. Or perhaps allow them time to find a local job, continue their education, or have a child born in the country and then make a humanitarian argument to allow them to stay, even after losing their asylum case. \n\nThe truth is, unless a country holds asylum seekers in detention for the entirety of the process, it's a given that failed asylum seekers will NOT return to their country of origin, and will simply go underground.

It's very hard to have sympathy for someone who just shows up and expects to get to stay.\nIt shows that you're an entitled brat who think they're special. Honest people apply and wait in line for their turn.\nIf you can't be bothered to apply for citizenship or recidency before you come to a country, then that should be an automatic refusal and deportation.

I dont feel sorry for him at all he knew what he was doing. He knew he was breaking the law he knew his family would be breaking the law by crossing the border illegally. I don't feel sorry for him for his wife or for his children. If he would have come across the right way he wouldn't be fighting to make sure he didn't go back to Mexico. It is his own fault and I don't feel bad about sending him his wife or his kids back across the border with their bags packed. Everybody's all poor Mexico people poor people come over they need help. No. They need to stand up to their local government fight back against the gang members and take their country back. If they're not happy with their country they need to fight and make the change.

Canada is VERY VERY merit based don't get it twisted. It took my parents years to get a visa to leave Nigeria and come here, Canada is not some paradise, it's a country chances are if you can't get legal citizenship in the states, you'd be VERY lucky to get it Canada. Basically your chances are little to none.

My parents are immigrants and i told them the same thing, why dont people stay to make their country better? And they flat out told me it will get you killed. Americans have no idea how coniving amd evil leaders in other countries can be. Just the other day, a dictator from eritrea was bargaining prices with Israel to send back refugees from his country. He said the refugees fleeing his regime should be given 50k to be deported from isreal because they risked their lives. You would think he really meant that right? As soon as those refugees come back hes taking that money and sending them to a forced slavery like military program. There is no such thing as human rights. So if you were in such a dire situation, dont you think you would do anything to get out? The only solution i see is if the entire world could be under a larger, strong governing force that keeps leaders in check and can withold vital resources from offenders. The UN isnt cutting it.

Canada sent representatives to immirgrant hotspots telling them that Canada was NOT the promised land and that if your refugee claim was refused you would be sent back to your country of origin, not the US. Canada, just like the US has the right to decide who comes in.

I had a friend that years ago she was living in the UAE. She was expected to cover up or else. Well being the rebel she is, she dared to show her shoulders. For this act of rebellion she was cut on her arms by a group of men. \n\nThis is the reality of Muslim countries. So they leave their oppressive societies and come to the west and think we should allow them to continue this oppression here.\n\nI don't think so....like the Canadian in the UAE, they should adapt to their host country, period.

Speaking as a person who came to Canada and hopes to get a PR in the coming year: The view that Canada welcomes anyone can´t be further from the truth. If you are a skilled worker, you´ve gone to school and you are relatively young, getting a citizenship is very straightforward, but if you don´t, Canada won´t have you, and you know what? it´s OK: all countries have the right to determine their immigration policy and enforce it. Canada´s point system is very transparent, you can calculate your points by yourself online. Not here to judge that guy, but a little research might have saved him a lot of trouble.

It's a heartbreaking situation, but a country has the right to decide who comes in and who doesn't. The places where hard-working, industrious people like Jose come from need to drastically change their societies to capitalize on his talents and provide for a stable future for his children. Perhaps what the US and Canada can do is help train those country's leaders to implement policies that improve their economies like establishing strong property rights, rule of law, free markets, tough measures on crime, etc. But unless you have a Ph.D. in Physics or will start the next Apple computers, we have plenty of unskilled labor here already. Look, I feel for the guy and I'm empathetic to his plight, I don't think he's an evil person, and our country may be better off having him here working and contributiing to the labor pool, but the law is the law.

It’s not any safer in any country than their own. They need to come to the realization that they need to stay in their countries & make the best of it because the US isn’t gonna be playing games much longer & Canada doesn’t want the issue moving up north.

I agree that racism exists in Canada in a subtle form. In my experience people would have more discrimination towards minority with foreign accents. I have heard from other people commenting immigrants 'this person has accent' and to me, it can be perceived negatively. Sometimes I feel I am treated differently because I have accent, especially at working environment. Few years ago I worked in school and my white boss put this on my yearly performance: Your 'emerging' English skills can have negative impact to children's language development. I didn't tell this to anyone but was very disappointed as we are a diversified country with so many immigrants, and this should not come out from an educator's mouth.

What is strange is that, the same people who flee a country due to oppressive religious behaviour come here and create an environment equal to the place they escaped.  Why did you leave in the first place!

You can't be an expert on another country by being there 100 something days. And I don't understand where everybody has this impression that all Americans are fat. Americans come in all shapes and sizes the same as everywhere els and other parts of the country are more health conscious than others. I have often wondered why can't we have a healthcare system like Canada's but America spends all of it's money on so many things in the world because of our position on the world stage we just can't work that out, thats what happens when you're the world super power.\n Most Americans have health insurance through their employer, a certain amount is taken out of our paycheck every month and if I get sick or have an emergency I pay a small co pay at the doctors office which is 35 dollars and emergency room co pay is 150 the insurance pays the rest.

Call me whatever, but India has been dealing with this for a very long time, probably since 1980s. I dont hate islam but I dont love it either. Let's just say that I wouldnt buy a house in Muslim neighborhood. It has been a nuisance to India since a long time, every time we screamed in UN for help. We got shut down until the problem reached world wide. People say it started happening since Iraq and syrian war which is slightly incorrect. This problem has been there since ages prior to war, It just manifested on a high level recently. There are so many examples...This religion feeling which later turns into violence starts with your own house, your upbringing and your own values. If a kid is used to seeing his mom being suppressed then when he grows up, dont expect much from him. Now every community has this issue but in Muslim community it is engraved in you the moment you open your eyes on planet earth. You cannot defend the argument when someone says Women are suppressed in mulsim culture. The most hurtful thing happening is in UK. A country which gave you food, shelter, respect, a better life. You are trying to impose your values on it? As a matter of fact, good muslims should come out openly and boycott these terrorist who are trying to create chaos if they really want to show good intentions but you wont see any (for obvious reasons). why our countries do not boycott Muslims countries? it would be better for both of us. we don't go to their countries, nor they come to our countries. Muslims do not will not and do not want to assimilate, respect or uphold our western traditions, values, rules or laws...they need to go back to their home where they can live with the same sick mind set class of people. I was a rare exception because I was American and did all of the above, however none of my female friends could or would do any of the things that I just mentioned. Ask yourself, why the hell are they coming to our home lands?!?!

They come to our country and refuse to accept our cultural beliefs one is that anyone covering their nose & mouth we see as a threat. Covering your face is done to hide your identity when committing a crime. That is our cultural belief, and they need to respect it.\nHow can I trust anyone wearing 'a rag top & face covering; and off topic even a hoodie. \n\nSorry, but in a free country we do have the rules that allow us to ban certain items of clothing worn on the street. I don't want Islam in my country, not because I hate them but because religions have their own set of moral principles and beliefs, Islam is clearly not compatible to our secular system. I'm not religious myself and I live in the west coast where there are few muslims, but just based from the discussions I've had with transfer students that come to my university I already don't like what I hear. They were nice, kind of, but all of them had backwards ideas. If you need a better reason to be against it, simply read the first few pages from the Quran, it is deplorable, more so then the bible. \n\nIf they want to integrate, their beliefs need to be reformed like Christians have centuries ago.
