Let me tell you this as a legal Indian immigrant that came here 13 years ago with my whole family. There was a balance of immigration coming in from every country which was amazing until they opened the gates to India like it’s another bus stop away from India. Since then there have been so many illiterate people that fraudulently came here and keep trying to make Canada like back home which needs to stop. The reputation of Indian people which used to be hard working and family people is getting ruined by people that come here to give back nothing to Canadian economy. People that used to come into Canada came in with a dream but now it feels like just visiting another Indian state especially Brampton……… hopefully this stops but with the monkeys that have currently taken over Canadian parliament i hardly see an end to this.

All these years US has a trade deficit of 1 trillion dollars every year. With tariffs we could have recovered 250 billion every year. That is a lot of money. You mention that Americans are 30% more expensive than Canadians but you dont mention that the US is far more unequal with a Gini coefficient of 0.41 vs 0.35 in Canada. Now there is also a known issue with using GDP data to calculate productivity and that is that in sme countries the labor of GDP is much lower than in others. You then end up with Irish productivity being the second highest in the world only because most large US corporations operating in the EU register there to pay lower taxes but most of that revenue is just on paper for Ireland. or with Guyana whose oil and mining revenue makes it productivity equal to that of the US. Maybe that is the case, but is it? and if so why is the average wage in Guyana so much lower? so choosing only one specific stat can make any point of view seem true. you have to look at the bigger picture.\nnow the issue is Canada has been getting more unequal but it is still much better than the US. so what it means is that the higher worker productivity in the US benefits corporations and billionaires far more than it benefits the average American. now if we compare cost of living say between NYC and Toronto:\nCost of Living in Toronto is 37.5% lower than in New York, NY (without rent) \nCost of Living Including Rent in Toronto is 47.1% lower than in New York, NY \nRent Prices in Toronto are 59.2% lower than in New York, NY \nRestaurant Prices in Toronto are 34.5% lower than in New York, NY \nGroceries Prices in Toronto are 33.0% lower than in New York, NY \nLocal Purchasing Power in Toronto is 7.2% higher than in New York, NY \nand this is similar when comparing almost all large Canadian cities with a comparable US one. And whilst housing and NIMBYIsm is real issue you have very similar issues in the US which also has almost no mix zoning. But throw in safety nets and go ask Canadians if they want to change for the US system. I doubt most will. Sure some want things to change but some assuming everyone wants an ultra capitalistic society. most are ok with less growth ut better balanced growth (the exact opposite of the boom and bust US model)

Thank you for summarizing these key changes! Many problems are actually the Canadian immigration system not learning from the mistakes of the US system and now it’s suffering the same consequences. If Canada cuts down on those selected immigrations but still takes in refugees, it’s only going to make anti-immigrant sentiment worse. Selected immigrants are allowed into Canada to help alleviate Canadian issues…or at least people who come through Express Entry are less likely to become a burden. On the other hand, refugees, given their unfortunate circumstances, really need to rely on a lot of social services and resources to help them resettle. The US has eliminated pretty much all non-humanitarian immigration that’s why immigrants are so demonized there. Americans only feel the drags of refugees and asylum seekers (even though ethically we need to protect them) and there is no selected immigration to balance that out. Yet this round of Canadian policy change is heading exactly that direction.\n\nIt used to be international students in Canada are not paying a lot more tuition than Canadian students. But Canadian universities saw how much money universities in the US are making so they asked the federal government to change the policy to enable them to charge international students several times the regular tuition (whereas in countries like France, international students actually pay less than citizens). So now Canadian universities rely too much on international students to operate and it becomes an exploitative relationship even before students step foot on the campus. The new PGWP eligibility is awful because students can make contributions in every field. It might (and that's a big if) address the pressing problems, but it won't help Canada grow.\n\nI thought the new language requirement was interesting. Some Canadians who immigrated decades ago when the bar was really low still speak English poorly and now they are saying people can’t come to Canada because their language skills are not sufficient. Another point about language is if you apply through Express Entry now, even if you scored the highest language score, given how competitive the pool is, you still won’t get selected. So it’s a given that you need to be fluent in one of the languages at least to get an invitation. Express Entry also selects only the top people, I saw the head of The Institute for Canadian Citizenship in interviews talking about those top-tier people only expect the best treatment/lifestyle when they come to Canada. That's why many of them leave after seeing these Canadian problems play out. But I believe a good Canadian life is not about living in a high rise in Vancouver and Toronto, driving an expensive car, or buying luxury items...it's about the communities, nature and middle-class comfort. So the system is giving PRs to the wrong kind of people (just like mismatched people when hiring that don't align with company values).\n\nThis brings me to the last frustrating issue. There were so many people who attended “fake” universities and bought “fake” jobs to earn points to get an Express Entry invitation. And it's clear that the government wasn't proactively catching these abuses. They are taking up spots from those who try to earn the points fair and square. If I understand correctly, Canada doesn’t send these people away if they are found out (since some of them were scammed). So they still take up immigration quotas.\n\nI have wanted to move to Canada for a long time. I have visited Canada many times, hiking trails through the coastline and fjords, climbing mountains and glaciers. I lived in Montreal for two months to improve my French and I was told by my homestay family that I was the first student they had who didn’t complain about the cold (I wish the winter never ends so I can skate or xc ski in the parks year-round). I have probably seen more Canada than many Canadians and I love every bit of it. But the opportunity for me to even get a shot to move there is pretty much nonexistent now. I appreciate your balanced view of the complicated situation. I have met so many Indians who contribute everyday to making Canada an even better place to live. So thank you. I too blame the government for ignoring the social consequences of such a large influx of immigration in too short of a time. There have been Indians here my whole life. They were very respectable, hard working and educated. They integrated well into Canadian society and contributed. The past 10 years or so we have been flooded with Indians and Middle Easterners who refuse to integrate and have a taking mentality. It’s making Canadians very angry and resentful. Canadians of all backgrounds. Why are we disproportionally allowing people in from Western Asia? We need a balance of people from everywhere. We also need to get a lot pickier about who we allow in. It’s infuriating having so many foreign students. I blame the government for all of this. Meanwhile what we really mean by multiculturalism is be Canadian FIRST and on special occasions or in the privacy of your own home celebrate your ancestry. Learn everything about what is valued and cherished in Canada. I lived overseas growing up as an x pat and adjusted to the culture of the country I lived in at the time. Trudeau has taken the Multi out of “Multiculturalism” Canadians and Indians have different values and if we Canadians mention this we are shamed and labeled as racist. I have a few Indian friends and they even say that immigration to Canada from India has gone out of balance. Many Indian people don’t assimilate into western living and many try to find loopholes they can exploit. I don’t like that Sikh men can bring daggers to places like the gym, it makes me feel uncomfortable working out beside someone with a big knife. Indian people wearing a Turban don’t have to wear helmets when riding their motorcycles. If a white Canadian took a big hunting knife into a gym they would be escorted out by the RCMP, and would be ticketed and fined for not wearing a motorcycle helmet. While sitting with one of my Indian friends he mentioned how he would hate to be me, I asked him why, he said as an Indian he can do what he wants and if I say anything I’m shamed and considered a racist. ??

The wealthy won't stop until they have everything! The US and Canada suffers from this because of EXTREME Capitalism! Your tax money goes to subsides for large corporations and not the people. The Canadian government makes alot of money in immigration fees from immigrants but before they were bringing people from all over the world but for past decade it happens to be alot of east Indians, i lived in Brampton for 20 years but decided to move out in 2021 because it didn’t feel like i was living in Canada anymore thanks to Mr Trudeu who gave them ez pass , all the jobs were finished, employers only wanted to hire newcomers so they can exploit them n then you see them protesting on roads, residential areas for not getting paid by employers,failing in college, visa renewal issues, This was another reason why you see so many homeless people and higher rent rates! I’m an international student from China and I never worked here. My Indian classmates ruined our final project. Wearing slippers for presentations and even cannot finish a simple website, my roommates are Indians as well, and they are all good. But some students they’re not come here to study, just for work. But just keeping the balance between study and work, will make other students have bad experiences. I also want to get the PR here, but it depends on my abilities and other factors. I love country music, K-pop, and pop Jazz, I watched a documentary about Canada before I came, and I was a volunteer at the London Air Show, Comic Con, Food Bank and Ronald Macdonald House. I think it's funny that Canada has a shortage of family doctors (GPs), when here in Ireland almost all (non-international) medical students become GPs. It's where you have the best work-life balance and make the more money per hour here. 9-5 hours, only on call at night a couple times per month and a great salary and eventually your own practice. I can't understand why a doctor would prefer any other branch of medicine. It's all other fields we are short on doctors and have non europeans to fill the gap.

It's not a housing bubble. A bubble is when investors overvalue a commodity. Even taking into account speculative property purchases, housing isn't overvalued in Canada. It is where it is because that is where the market has found the balance between the high demand and the low supply. There simply isn't enough housing being built to accommodate a million more people a year. We need to build more lower and middle-class housing. As a student of both history and architecture, I can tell you we've been here before and we dealt with it, and we can again. This situation is both a result of many factors that could and couldn't be centrally controlled. Things that couldn't be controlled: Covid and a spike in retirement rates, an aging population, low profit margins for builders, and inflation (that last one is not so easy for a central bank to control as many people seem to think it is). Factors that could be controlled: Zoning laws and bylaws, linking immigration to the amount of housing available and being built, government greed for foreign money to balance their books, short-sighted politicians of all stripes, underfunding of post-secondary education, and lack of government incentives to make building worthwhile for contractors. I've probably missed some things, but the point is that this is not an intractable predicament, and good leadership, good ideas and the will to make things happen can get us out of it.

Trudeau and the Liberals have made so many major mistakes. It is time for a major change in Canada. A number of changes need to be made. Including putting a cap on all immigration, until everything can be balanced again. Along with eliminating our carbon tax. All of these choices are making things unsustainable within our economy, and higher inflation for everyone. Our current administration is out of control. You guys can consider Dubai as one of your options. It is so safe here. Awesome education for kids with islamic and Arabic subjects along with all the other modern curriculum. We Love dubai. Never had any problem in having halal food, zero security related issues, zero racism. Well balanced work and life, moderate inflation but you never really can feel it. In short, its an ideal place to live and raise your kids here. Alhamdulillah. We also decided long time back to move to Canada or New Zealand but the brought up of our kids was the biggest reason that we never did it. We are so greatful to Allah for making the right decision of staying in Dubai.

This is my 13th year in Canada, I am so sad to see the change, I really hope it will become a better country again with Trudeau stepping down. But we also have to be fair that there are not many countries become better since COVID. Many of you leaving or planning to leave Canada are more like rich country retirees taking advantage of the wage and currency differences between rich and poor countries. So let’s put it this way, if many of you have not worked your whole life here in Canada, will you still have a quality of life in your home countries, such as Southeast Asia or South America? I doubt majority of the population there is make a good money and having great work life balance, and everyone there could afford a decent retirement life. what is more close to nowadays reality is people coming here and hoping they could have a better paid job and settle down here, but most of them found out they are struggling to even maintain their normal life in this country, so they left. For those who came years ago, they made a saving which may not be enough to support a good retirement life here, but is more than enough in other countries, they also choose to flee. Then those successful immigrants will stay here with the option to travel anywhere they want. My son's classmate's grandfather immigrated to Canada long time ago who later become a well known cardiologist and was rewarded as one of the top 25 immigrants Award, all three daughters are now specialists too. I really hope Canada could rise again!

People have to stop using rental prices in cities like Toronto and Vancouver. That's like Americans using rental costs in Bel-Air California or Manhattan as an example of what rent costs in America. It's not a realistic portrayal of rental costs. \nHere in Quebec the the annual tax rate is between 26.53% and 53.31%, depending on income. Then you have to consider all the socialist programs that you are forced to pay into, which also sucks up a significant amount on your weekly salary. After that, you must consider that you pay 15% sales tax on almost everything. It's safe to say that half of your yearly earnings, give or take, are taken in taxes and socialized programs. As for salaries, less than 20% of the Canadian population make a 6 figure salary. We're not talking about household income. I am talking about individual income. You're not going to become rich here in Canada! The majority of people who do become rich leave Canada to avoid taxation. Canadians live a life of debt. You will live just balancing your debt to make sure it doesn't get out of control Few Canadians have money in savings without debt. The ones who do have money saved, most of them have debts on top of their savings which is counterproductive in my opinion.

My grandparents and aunt are Canadian. Canada made the same mistake we did in the US. Yes life was good but the wealth was a delicate balance. Once we opened the doors to the world, we found that ecosystem more delicate than we knew, which makes the Western world even more of a cultural miracle than we realized, given the degree of freedom we enjoy. No wonder the not-west thought that our societies were disasters in the making and not capable of coherent opinion or defense.

I'm from Asia and recently moved to Canada with my family to live a slower-paced and safer life. I've seen firsthand that the drug problem here is worse than it was back home, and they're being coddled with no plans to discipline or rehabilitate them. I asked my friends how I could defend myself and my family if a random drug addict broke into our house and stole our belongings; could I at least beat that person up until the police arrived? They said you couldn't because you'd be charged with assault. It's funny. \n\nApart from the crimes and exorbitant living costs despite living in a rural area, even Canadians who have lived in the country since birth are struggling to make ends meet. \n\nSome positive comments, Canada provided me with a work-life balance that was not possible in Asia due to the competitive nature of the corporate world. So I had time to spend with my family, and you don't have to travel abroad to see beautiful scenery. Canadians are also very accommodating and friendly, in contrast to where I came from, where people will not help unless it benefits them as well. The Canadians here are extremely friendly. So Canada is great because of its people, but I can tell you that the government consistently makes bad decisions about how to solve certain problems, such as drugs and harm reduction strategies. Another issue is that they do not recognize internationally trained professionals, which could have helped alleviate healthcare issues in our area, where we have many internationally trained nurses from the Philippines working as restaurant servers and janitors. We have doctors from Kenya who have to work as general laborers and in other odd jobs where they can use their profession and experience to help people. I am also an immigrant, but the government should strategically distribute us based on our qualifications. I chose a rural area because I don't want to add to the number of immigrants in big cities and instead want to contribute to the local economy by bringing my skills and experience to the pool. \n\nCanada is a wonderful country, and I continue to believe so, but the government must reward and do more for its people who are trying their best to make this country great.

I had migrated to Nz 3 months back and i gotta say its the exact opposite of whatever Canada has to offer . I am currently living in Canada, but wanted to move to California to get a “higher pay” in my field. \nWhat’s holding me back is the healthcare in Canada. In my union, I get 100% insurance in Vision, Dental, Check-ups, Drug Prescription etc.. \nMind that I NEVER waited for months nor years to get any Health related appointments.\nIn the US, (My friends in the same field) says that their health insurances are not 100% covered unlike in Canada.\nBut, I’m also thinking “If I could get a higher pay, then I could pay for the remaining balance” \nWhat I’m scared of is, until when am I able to pay for that? Even if I get savings, and I get seriously ill my savings will go straight to my medical bills. ++ The shootings. Whether the gun is registered or not, Shooting is a shooting. I have had a home base in Toronto for the last 20 years, traveling almost consistently for work until covid hit. While I am not a fan of the city tbh, I have stuck it out there this whole time as I have not been able to figure out where else in Canada I'd rather live. The way things have gone in the last little while however, I'm now making plans to leave Canada altogether. Even though I am unaffected by high housing costs as I've owned a home in the city, the general cost of living across Canada is now extortionate for what you get. Toronto was fine for me to use as a base for my traveling lifestyle in the past, but with crappy weather much of the year, a left leaning electorate that keeps voting ultra woke politicians at all levels of government, the now increased cost of living there is no longer worth it to me. I'm headed for the exit. All this said, I don't feel that your coverage about crime in the city was balanced. Yes the news stories you used actually did happen, but I do not feel unsafe in the city. A handful of incidents in a city with the population of Toronto - this is a blip.
