You should come to Portland OR and Vancouver WA, Seattle area too -
compare and contrast these communities to the Russians that moved here in the 90s. Still only one generation, but very assimilated, just with old foods and some customs of the old land. Like Germans, Scandinavians, English, Scottish, Polish, Italians, French immigrants. 2nd gen is already thoroughly Americanized. By 3rd generation, impossible to tell the difference. We do tend to be much more conservative, very Protestant actually in the PNW.
Ilya Malinin, a memeber of our US figure skating team, is ethnically Russian. Looks like a Russian, but Russians look very American generally. Many such cases.
And then the Mexis, Somalis, Indians... Even the fresh Ukrainians are a little uh... but I think at least the Ukies will adapt quickly

10. Question about Aboriginals.
Ans: First Nations, Metis and Inuits

I’m a second gen Indian in Canada born in USA. It’s become so us vs them between locals and immigrants, that Im caught in the middle, I belong no where and everywhere. There’s no room for my voice, because I’m no different then any Canadian or American in how I act but nothing separates me from Punjab and Kashmir other than accident of birth and one generation. My English is NE United States, my French Québécois, my Hindi Dehli,Punjabi Jalandar, Urdu Lahori, and Turkish Ankara. I speak six languages and I’m fluent in none, I’m from three countries yet none of them want me.
It would be great if more of these types of investigations included our voices, as we’re neither here nor there yet caught in the middle of all of this.

Thank God. As an American in Québec who is fluent in French, these kind of policies were turning this unique province into another boring and culture-less Ontario. Adios and au revoir. Québec needs to entirely focus on francophone immigration. MOST of these « English speakers » in the « important » industries he is talking about are NOT native English speakers. Go somewhere else where French has not existed for the past 400 years if you do not speak French. Not just immigration fatigue but globalization fatigue.

Before Trudeau's liberal government, Canada's permanent resident program was based on factors such as being fluent in English or French (in Quebec), passing standard exams in one's own country, being educated (Bachelor's or higher), work experience, family, age, and knowledge of Canada's general culture. If you had all the points, you would be selected. It took about three years, and while waiting, you could not apply for any visa to enter Canada. The security check was part of the process, and the Canadian government asked applicants to enter the country by bringing money (Like one year's salary). This system was a perfect plan, and many Western countries wanted to copy that (As I heard on many French and American radios before), but the liberals broke the system! And I still don't know why!

1) Canadian politicians are running a Ponzi scheme - just keep bringing in more foreigners to pay for everybody else they already brought in
2) This immigration game was started after DeGaulle sparked Quebec separatism, and neither Ottawa nor Washington knew how to deal with this, other than to mass-import lots of foreigners in order to dilute the Anglo-French divide that was quickly turning toxic. Washington was not going to allow a new country to form on its northern frontier, potentially creating a new geopolitical fault line which could be exploited by the Soviet bloc. Therefore all the stops would be pulled out to rearrange the demographics of the suddenly fragile Canada.
3) This immigration game is just a human trafficking operation. Canada itself has been reduced to a human trafficking operation, originally to counter Quebec separatism, and then later the politicians just plain got addicted to importing new voters, rather than solving the problems of existing voters through good governance.
4) We're all up the creek without a paddle. Neither do I have any solutions to the current mess, nor do the people who made this video have any solutions. It's now like the weather - we can complain about it, but can't change it. Maybe Trump can solve it by breaking up Canada and turning pieces of it into new American states. I know - it's blasphemy - but...
5) *_I too am of Indian heritage,_* and have been a Canadian for over half a century.

On paper, Canada has been great for this land the Native Americans called Turtle Island. A huge new country sprang out of nothing, adding trillions of dollars to the economy. But the question I and all the natives before the white men came there kept asking was this. Why? After visiting, I have no answer. So sorry to say, you are hard hardcore racist. Try to make a video where everyone are French, Itailina or what have you. . There are plenty of places like that. The problem is they look white.

We are all immigrants other than the indigenous and Inuit. My father’s family can be traced back to 1538. He is French Canadian and native. My mom was an Irish American from Cleveland Ohio. This country has changed so much. I am at a loss. We need to speak out our opinions. I have lived here all over Canada, all my life. Why can we open up the the immigration doors when we did not have the infrastructure. It was insane. It hurt the original Canadians. The migrants are treated special. There should not be kickbacks. The govt has created this racism by giving immigrants priviliges

I must admit that despite my reservations about Mr. Trudeau, I can only stand in solidarity with the statements made here. Politics should not be a matter of ego, trade wars, or personal disagreements, as it is ultimately the people who, unfortunately, remain the eternal victims of these trivial battles. \n\nAs a French citizen, I can therefore only join this fight against political absurdity, which Mr. Trudeau has led here with both tact and courage. This is not a struggle against the American people but a necessary reminder: in war, there are only victims, and as Montesquieu once said, commerce should be driven by the spirit of peace, not by the constant temptation of war.

Trump is trying to end war that’s why he wants to make peace with Russia! And there are a LOT of rude Canadians just as Americans! I don’t think Canada and America ever been allies or close friends HONESTLY speaking! But what Trudeau is making a point, this will not go well for everyone! Wow this handsome man knows French as well! How smart of him!

As an American: can I move to Canada, please? I don't speak French, but I am very fluent in English, and have a good command of Spanish. I'm a good worker.

Anti-Americanism? Seriously? That is NOT what he said. Did you listen to any part of his speech at all? The English version, not the French one. Although if you'd listened to the French version, it would better explain why you are misrepresenting what he actually said. You might have misunderstood a large portion of it.

Nobody cares what Trudeau has to say. Didn’t he step down? Isn’t he walking out of office this month? Who knows what his successor will do. But Americans aren’t going to rally behind the French Canadian government against our own. Laughable.

Come on the rest of the decent world we can make a stand against the USA. Don’t buy Tesla. Don’t buy Ford. Don’t buy Nike. Don’t buy Apple. Buy Samsung, Adidas. French & German cars. Buy beers & wine from many countries & not the USA. Then with finances try to avoid American banks & credit card companies & shares. Even at a basic level we can all make a difference. Our governments all need to make a difference & trade more with each other rather than the USA it will be tough & take a while but we can break away from this hideous nation & need to do so asap.

As an Italian American living in New York, with Italian French-Canadian cousins living in Quebec, its really upsetting to see our relationship with our closest allies fall apart due to the greed and stupidity of only a hand full of people – if you can even call them that.

And this is why I do not follow CNN. This came up in my feed, and I wanted to hear what Trudeau had to say. And I wanted to hear him speak in French. But no, you booger globs must think that there are no people in America who speak French, and no people in America who would like to hear him speak French. You are part of the problem, CNN. And then to hear this woman say what she says after that talk is just appalling to me. Lady, you are a turncoat. You do not have your ethics and morals in place. Anti-American? Anti-American? Is that what you got from this? Where is your dance cap!? Get it together. My god, what a disgrace, CNN. This is junk media. Infotainment.

As tensions rise in Eastern Europe, the importance of steadfast leadership within NATO has never been clearer. France and Germany, long considered the backbone of the alliance, have stepped up with decisive action, reinforcing NATO’s eastern flank with strategic troop deployments and economic resilience. French President Émile Laurent and German Chancellor Anna Weber have demonstrated a commitment to European security, bolstering defense spending, coordinating joint military exercises, and ensuring the alliance remains united against growing threats. Their leadership has reassured smaller NATO members that Europe’s security remains a priority, even as transatlantic relations waver.\nAcross the Atlantic, however, Washington’s indecisiveness and political gridlock have left NATO partners questioning America’s long-term commitment. While previous U.S. administrations led with clear strategic vision, the current White House has struggled to project strength, often sending mixed signals on critical global issues. Despite these challenges, European leadership has proven that NATO’s stability does not rest solely on American shoulders. France and Germany’s firm diplomacy and strategic coordination have kept the alliance on course, ensuring that collective defense remains ironclad, even in the absence of strong guidance from the United States.

God forbid you just throw some subtitles up for the French part. No, just speak right over it. God forbid Americans are exposed to any language but English.

I am an American, but my Ancestors were French Canadians who immigrated to Montpelier, Vermont at the turn of the 20th century. Your support in wanting the best for both of our countries makes me so proud of my roots. Charlie Angus as well as Justin Trudeau have integrity and are willing and able to fight for what is right. Please know you are a highly respected nation by most of the people in this country. I have always been so proud of my country, but am now so embarrassed and deeply troubled. Please pray for your neighbors and the democracy of our Republic. I am related to Louis Cyr, Canadian Strongman. Don't give up on us. God be with both of our nations!

As a Canadian who lives in (largely French-speaking) Quebec, I don't know if our gov't even NEEDS to tariff American consumer goods, the people here are already boycotting US goods and companies en masse. EVERYBODY is doing it - and the pace isn't going to recede anytime soon. Even after the Orange Turd is long gone, trust me, Canadians will remember this! The American state has proven it cannot be trusted. They have unilaterally broken the trade agreement (negotiated by the previous Donald J Chump administration) on the flimsiest of reasons, the 00.2 % of fentanyl that flows over the border into the US from Canada. That deal now obviously not worth the paper it was signed on.

I am a French Canadian. I did not hear it From Trudeau in English but I heard it in French, the real reason of the economic war is annexation. Fentanyl, immigration was just a Casus Belli. Trump want to put us on our knees and beg to join the US. We will have federal elections soon and we know that Trump will try to influence the outcome of the elections like Chine, Russia or India. We know has Canadian that USA is not a friend anymore. Trump is the dumbest of American President of the history of USA. Americans citizens get rid of Trump and Vance before it is too late.

As a 60 years old french Canadian I have all the reason to not love Trudeau, because he remind me how his father treated us, never vote for him, but today I saw a men (finally) standing up and take the lead for our country. Yes Canada is still my country and I like the way he directly adress to your president. I have so many American friends on both side( D and R ) and I hope they understand that what he said is not directly apply to United State citizen, wake up America before it s to late.

Wolf: “Americans are too dumb to listen to French so let’s blabber over the second half of the speech and repeat exactly what the PM said.”

I hope Canada's retaliatory tariffs target products from Trump states. Also, listening to Trudeau reminds me how much I miss having an intelligent, articulate POTUS. Four years of The Orange Retard, then four years of Geriatric Genocide Joe, and now four more years of The Orange Retard. Why is it too much to ask that We Americans have an articulate, educated leader who's undiminished by senescence (bonus points for speaking French!)

Prime Minister Trudeau, as American of French-Polish ancestors I support and am grateful for our past history and friendship. May only good and a return to a higher consciousness between the USA and Canada. Thank you for your message today!

I'm a French Canadian american from the state of Maine. Was born here. I love your response to trump. I think trump is an immature ego maniac. I wish we could kick him out of office!
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Is there no one at CNN who can translate French? Really? I'm American, and I'm hoping Trudeau announces that he's making trade deals with Europe (and even China) that cut us out. Betraying our allies should never be incentvised. I'm even hoping they cut off our oil, which WILL jack gas prices, since our refineries in the Midwest are only deisgned to process Canadian crude. And the truth is that the reason for the tariffs is that Trump has direct control over them, and can probably have Elon do something with the revenue that couldn't be done with normal taxes. We're all getting screwed here.

European immigration to the America began during 1492 to 1930. More than 60 million Europeans immigrated to the American continent. During 1492 to 1820 approx. 2.6 million Europeans immigrated to America. Among them were British, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Italians, Irish,Swiss, Austrians,Hungarian, Russians and Scandinavians. In the 19th century and in early 20th century the European immigration to America reached its historic level of 60 million.\n\nIt is my opinion that if the US would granted amnesty on grace and accept those undocumented persons entered into US without criminal backgrounds (Illegal ), the great nation USA will be honoured.

Thank you for your honest attempt to understand our culture our history, our sense of humor, and what makes us Canadian; rather than American. Our general acceptance of immigration brings richness and change to our culture. We have a more cooperative than competetive attitude,I believe. There is a huge American influence, but still a European, British Isles and French component. History had taught us a lot.
