As an American I can assure you none of us want this. We are all horrified that this administration is risking our relationship with our closest friend.

Canadian here(Quebec) I feel sad for all the Whiskey industries in Kentucky, those workers didn't deserved the counter-effects of the tarifs. Everything can be done with respect & diplomacy, but it's not the road President Trump took. Fellow Americans, I am very sorry about that, rest assured that us here, we make the difference between your President & all of you.

I can see a few Americans here happy that Canada will be a 51 state. This is not a way to approach a friend to take over his house. There were other ways to do it long before and I assure you there were, maybe, doable but force is not one of them. You seed hate you get hate. What a mess.

I could not be more assured,as a Canadian, by the great unscripted,direct speech our leader,Prime Minister Trudeau, has delivered to Canadians and Americans. Everyday people will hurt through this and remember, it will not affect the oligarchy Trump has created, because they can withstand downturns in economies through wealth. His goal is to crush the Canadian economy in the guise of creating better paying jobs for American. Complete unhinged fallacy.

As a Canadian, I can assure America that, even if or when these tariffs are removed, we will never forgive or forget the base treatment we have received from our former closest friend. The free world is not blind. They can see what America has done to its closest ally. Splendid Isolation will once again be enjoyed by Americans but this time it will be initiated by the free world.

Good job taking the opportunity given here however I see another limp D trying to save his embarrassing career. But good for you getting all these gullible people to buy it. Half truths do not make the truth whole. 75 years of industrial decline aren’t getting fixed with friendly assurances and happy trade deals. During WW2 everyone lived on food rations, turned in all metals, kept their old cars running etc… and y’all are upset because inflation means you have to make some tough choices? I’m ashamed of every American that refuses to try something new since the last 50 years of the same old back and forth is what got us here in the first place. Obstruction and diversion. Division. Both parties are responsible. If Donald wants to destroy the faith of his faithful… let him. But going radical against half the country’s people isn’t going to end well for anyone. I'm not American. I grew up hearing lots of hate bout USA cuz the US doesn't exactly have a good rep in foreign policies - always bullying other nations, starting wars for oil etc. but I've always preferred USA not just for the world order it brings, it allows different voices, criticism & scolding towards its leaders compared to China, Russia & North Korea. \n\nin the US, you can talk bad bout politicians in power, or probably make movies bout these kind of things like US invading other countries for oil, or testing out some cruel AI military robots on humans (movie name: Monsters of Man), & you won't be persecuted. but after looking at a bunch of executive orders Trump has signed, the way he (& JD Vance) treated Zelenski & Canada, I don't know if I still feel the same bout USA anymore.\n\nif USA doesn't wanna continue spending on Ukraine, perhaps USA shouldn't have sweet talked Ukraine into denuclearization thru the 1994 Budapest Memorandum. that's what you get for mendling with other countries' affairs. by stopping US aid & wanting a new mineral deal, Trump's refusing to follow the Memorandum (I added this sentence thru edit as I can't reply to the comment below).\n\nunderstandably, US & UK don't need to deploy troops in Ukraine as the security assurance in the memorandum wasn't clearly defined, but it also didn't mention that Ukraine should pay the US back financially, nor any mineral concessions. \n\nTrump always wanting a purely 1 sided deal will only isolate USA from more allies.

As an American I assure you that I don't want this either. There is a madman driving the train straight into the wall and we can't do anything about it. So f-ing sad. I love you Canada.

One thing is remarkable. He spells out all these while assuring the Canadian people the government will stand by them through the tough moments and expand benefits to mitigate the situation. I don’t know if Americans will be getting the same treatment from the federal government.

Trudeau was never ever seen as a smart man. It is a mockery for a fool to call a genius dumb. Aka: Same as AOC calling Elon Musk not smart. AOC's brain cells could barely count to 100. \nBut honestly, this fool Trudeau who is resigning because in the end he proved worthless and like a little lap dog had to snap at President Trump as he is ready to be ousted because he, himself knows that in today's world he is totally incompetent. \nMost true Americans know President Trump is right. And though we disagree on making Canada our 51st state, because we prefer to have it as our personal Democrat reject dump site.\nThe Stock Market downfall you can rest assured are more of the Democrats boycotting America which we have always known to back stab America every chance they get. Democrats have always been Americas traitors, and we wouldn't expect any different from them now.

I have read many comments expressing support for Canada and assurances that the writers didn't vote for this administration. Until now, something like this could only be seen in totalitarian countries, it was the Russians, Belarusians who explained that they did not support Putin or Lukashenka, that they didn't want to be associated with the actions of their authorities. Now i see the times when Americans are ashamed of their administration in front of their allies.

Thank you Prime Minister Trudeau, what is happening in America under Trump is catastrophic! He is not only destroying our relationships with allies like Canada, he is destroying every facet of our government agencies that he can. Trump is Hitler 2.0 and as an American, I am resolved to fight back! I am not alone, 81% of us are angry at what we see happening. It feels like we are watching Pearl Harbor’s attack, only instead of this attack being from a foreign country, it’s being done by our own President whose target is America, her people and our world allies. \nWe are sorry for how he is hurting you. I don’t know how we will stop him, but I can assure you we will!

As a Canadian, I can assure you CNN and all Americans, Canada will not back down. Remember this pain your country will feel is not what Canadians want, but our response to your President’s stupidity and apparent new support for our mutual enemy Russia. Get you country back. You are sliding into fascism and authoritarianism. We hope you right your ship.

I think the government should send the National Guard now to protect our borders.. this is no longer the immigrants seeking for Asylum visa.. this is Alien Invasion.. I'm sure, there a lot of terrorists getting mixed up with these immigrants who are pretending to be Asylum seekers.. but once they get here inside.. they will attack for sure against the American people.. We gotta all prepare now if we get war against these people.. there will be no more assurance now for our safety for our families..

Rest assured, nobody from a normal place would ever move there; from the middle of Africa, I don't know... I do believe that not even Latin Americans are attracted due to different weather habits... All in all people deserve what they vote for; it's their will, isn't it?

I can assure you that any white Americans offended by this would most certainly not be offended or bothered if it was a bunch of White Canadians rushing to the United States.

Maybe it's just because of the news, but really, the school shootings are TOP of mind for me. Like, how is that even possible, to have that many crazy people who want to murder children, and not only that, but those crazy people have access to guns? \nI don't say anything to my American cousins, as I realize that they have ties, they've married Americans, they've built a life, and there's no sense me freaking out about things that they won't change, and insulting their choices.\nBut... I was SHOCKED that even after they started having children, they still didn't move back to Canada. They can do it, they have dual citizenship! \n???\nIt's like sending your kids to school on a boat in a river full of crocodiles. It's not guaranteed that nothing bad will happen to them, and it's hard to let them go, but you trust and pray and hope for the best.\nAnd then you see your cousin's kids sailing down that same river sitting on a log with their feet dangling into the water! It's horrifying, even if they assure you that usually the crocs don't come to this side of the river, and mostly they're not hungry in the morning anyway. It seems like reckless disregard. And for what? So the parents can make more money? It's not worth it in my opinion.

I’m truly sorry there are tears because these people have come a long way and were lead to believe—due to the liberal open-border policies of the current U.S. regime—that their border crossing experience was assured, that it was in fact a done deal … and further, that they would be showered with free lodging, free food and medical care, baby formula, new phones, and a monthly stipend … JUST for crossing into the United States illegally. That Joe Biden —who doesn’t even acknowledge all of his OWN grandchildren—was somehow (because it’s true if you believe it, right?) their long-lost and hitherto unknown grandfather, their abuelo and dispenser of largesse, wide smiles, and hair-sniffs.\n Why did he throw his arms wide and ask you to come hither, then, if he didn’t really want you to come in once you got here?\nPerhaps the capriciousness of old age, of ?dementia, of the intense pressures of ill-gotten high office and a forced recognition of the tears of those whose families have fallen prey to the criminal element ever-present among border-crossers?\n Why? You want MORE reasons? \nBecause the man needs VOTES and the country needs extreme disruption (as well as the impoverishment of existing social programs of Americans who will NOT vote for him) in order to increase his own brand of “law” enforcement martially throughout the nation and he’s gotta PREPARE—y’know? \n I am certain of Joe Biden’s sorrow that you were inconvenienced. After all, you did feel it was your “right” to get in, and a few short weeks ago Joe would have agreed with you.
