Worst thing that ever happened to Canada. I can't even begin to describe how my community has changed. I don't even recognize it anymore. Spent my entire life in a small town and for some unknown reason it is part of a "designated resettlement zone." There are more Indians than whites - it's insane. Local businesses have closed, new businesses catering to Indians have opened. Littering is rampant. Homes aren't taken care of. As a Brampton raised kid, I lived there from 97' till about 2023, I'm caribbean and we have a large indian/muslim/hindu population too on our island. (Trinidad) and the issue with Brampton is: Indian people will gladly intergrade, but Canadian borns won't welcome it. Walk with me- I'll use food for an example. Every other grocery store is middle eastern/asian/african in Brampton and its becomes harder finding more western style food. I love international food, I cook it often but if you're used to burgers and pizza and only know how to make spaghetti it feels like a 'take over' These people want what they want and even though all these places are free for you to also enjoy they don't like it cause it's too 'foreign' to them. It doesn't mean there isnt still a No Frills or a Walmart or Metro, but because the african and halal store are closer and more frequent it seems like more of a convenience to others and not to you. When people say we're multi-cultural, they mean 'yeah he's brown or black but he keeps it to himself' They aren't going to go to that Sikh temple giving free food, and only go to the church at the beginning even though they're welcome to both. It's the same for Diwali and other things, white people dont care to be interested in those things, and just wonder why they get to have it at all. I do agree with that indian lady at the beginning though, with lax immigration you come in feeling like you don't need to do anything to assimilate. They're doing themselves a disservice by only helping themselves. I hate stereotypes being perpetuated onto people but like that Pakistani guy said too, you live in a bubble and you don't pay attention to that. You can go days without speaking english to someone. You can't immigrate somewhere and shut out everyone already there. I get you may not feel welcome by the white people like the ones in the beginning and so you dont mess with them, and its easy not to. But there needs to be openness with helping everyone benefit from multi-culturalism and not just some of us. There are issues with immigrants not wanting to go outside their bubble and for canadians not to want to either, It'll be hard to (with the current issues we're facing as a country) to actually blend together more.

I think the Pakistani Guy nailed it! When the economy cannot siphon people into the workforce you form a nexus to survive. It eventually evolves into a closed group that is then seen as a non-integrated community. This is not unique to Canada. Usually first generation immigrants who came in the 70s, 80s and 90s (and 2000s in case of mainland Europe) were treated quite poorly, not given enough opportunities and looked down upon. But they kept their heads down and worked hard with a resolve that their children would be of equal stature. While doing so they created networks and support systems that will help them survive and eventually thrive. This network worked very well for a while untill new generation immigrants came in and became a part of the network but had no idea what went in creating that safe space to begin with. Thus the clashes!

The last governments have quietly opened up immigration without providing infrastructure to support them. Taxpayers dollars have been dolled out for new immigrant's housing and living. There are a lot of issues around immigration. Firstly, the IRCC filters receiving low skilled people, second most of them are located on main cities and provinces, most of the country is empty and finally if you are gonna keep your traditions here, do it inside your four walls. I am a new permanent resident in Canada. This video is very true regarding our integration. You are absolutely right. Newcomers must integrate, as it is the beginning of a new life in a new environment. What I do not fully agree with is when you complain about the social benefits given by the government to newcomers. It is not free money; we will pay it back later in taxes. We cannot build life projects depending on these benefits. Ask each newcomer if they are satisfied with these benefits rather than a good job. We want to contribute to the economy of this beautiful country. For example, I came to Canada with specific goals, including starting an IT company, which was difficult to achieve at home due to lack of opportunities. So, don't blame immigrants too much; in my opinion, responsibilities should be shared among all of us, including the government.

Between immigrants and other countries that take tax money from the system is the reason why we are in the situation we are in. You may say why is that. I say the billions of dollars spent elsewhere could be spent on the people where it was taken from in the beginning. Canadians could be not living under the poverty rate or homeless or this opioid addiction do you know how much the medication cost for suboxone or methadone 375 a month. Meanwhile the cost for a prescription of hydromorphone cast 130 to 150 a month. So sick of how much money goes on this big opioid crisis and how much it could be helped. Housing homelessness could be solved. The list goes on the billions of dollars could help the Canadian people's. Immigrants are necessary, BUT ONLY TO POINT. We need to shut our borders to new immigrants and begin working around what we have. As a man who has grown up in Canada, I have seen us morph from an economic powerhouse to wasted potential. Add in strict criteria for being able to come to Canada, incentivize construction of new infrastructure, and add in new laws for all these immigrants that dictate what they can and cannot do in Canada. As a Canadian citizen I have always admired the US up until now, I sincerely wanted to move to the US to build homes and start up a company. But now am re-evaluating my decision because if this how the US treats their friends and allies, I really feel sad for their enemies. Housing price growth is good at the beginning, but after 10-20 years, it becomes a burden on the economy becuase of rent, as rent is included in everything u buy or do.\nEventually, it will crush, and so the economy. Our history has repeatedly shown that when there is a climate change, natural or man-made disaster, shortage of food occurs, then there is a high inflation, then people begin to seek scapegoats to blame the economy on.
