This is an interesting issue. I have lived in both Brampton and Surrey, and there is some real issues with immigration. But the homeless you showed made me think about the other side of the coin, these Indian immigrants would probably do a better job feeding our own homeless if they were aware they were welcome. Things like garbage and stuff, indians have less civil duty because their own cultural issues. But they have a sense of duty of family and community. I consider myself International( 3ed generation Canadian) because I spent half of my life working in many countries. Canada was always my home until about 15 years ago when I started feeling that thigs are changing in the wrong directions not only the immigration influx but total anti-Christian war, morality, family values, sexualization of children etc etc. its all gone to HELL !! Now that my children graduated, I have moved them to an east European country where all my values and beliefs are still intact. The government created the problem just like in Canada. They increased the population by 1.6% in ONE SINGLE YEAR with immigration and now there's not enough housing to meet demand. The lockdowns took all my savings and a chunk of my superannuation to just survive, and I was robbed of over a year of earnings by the government. I've been stuck in this massively over-priced hovel for 3 years longer than I had planned and now would be lucky to even be in the top 20 picks for a rental, at twice the price. It's only a matter of time before the job market implodes due to business closures and the all around terrible climate in which to start new business. I want out, but the prospect of returning to Canada is beyond depressing. Everything that drove me out of Canada in the first place is 10x worse now. My other alternative is UK but I don't feel like going to prison for liking memes about Keir Starmer on Facebook, so UK is out of the question. Not to mention that it's economically doomed and has a worse healthcare system than Canada. There are lines around city blocks to get into a GP clinic.

Instead, I reside in a mixed area and have no intention of bringing over 100,000 people from my village back home to Canada. Canada needs to restrict immigration until we get a handle on our housing and social services levels. Also, not all new immigrants should be allowed to move to Toronto or Vancouver. They should be sent to live in provinces such as Saskatchewan or Manitoba for the first 10 years. I am sure they need skilled workers. Shifting taxes that hurt poor people (like income and sales taxes) onto land value taxes would stop most of this. It would become expensive to sit on vacant investment houses and corporations and landlords would be forced to sell them.

The government has welcomed in 1.2 million people from January 2023-2024. We cannot sustain those numbers, and even more disturbing, our new immigrants are from Asia and East Asia, and Africa, not from other countries off the world. We don’t need people like you encouraging more immigrants to come here, when we can’t afford the average 600,000 new immigrants per year that has been forced on us since 2015.

The worst part about Indians, Chinese and Arabs etc is that they don’t really integrate/assimilate in the countries they immigrate to. They continue with the same segregated systems that forced them to run from their homelands. Big difference compared to African, South Americans, Japanese, Koreans, and Western Europeans who actually try to assimilate to the countries they immigrate to. It makes sense that if you are running away from a failed system, you must assimilate to the new system or else you’ll also destroy the new system if you bring in the same behaviors.

This lack of access to health care is a new thing. I agree with your assessment. It now seems lonelier in Toronto. \n\nCanada used to be different because anyone with a good job could afford at least a condo, but life became unaffordable not just for immigrants, but for everyone unless you are in your 50s-60s and own a home. \n\nI have friends working double jobs supporting family back home in other countries, but for some of them the family back home sound like they are doing better than them and own a home. It’s like they are sacrificing their life to be in poverty or full of hardships and their families get to go out for dinners and drinks with friends. Not them. Not true for everyone, but for some yes and I worry about their own retirement because retirement in Canada without lots of savings means you might be homeless or forced to live with family even if it’s not your preference. \n\n without investments and savings, it will be hard to beat inflation. Getting into debt and getting bad credit can mean not getting an apartment. \n\nThe birth rate is going down because it is expensive to have kids and income isn’t enough to match with living costs. Getting help from government is really not something everyone gets access too. One person might get housing support, 10 others may get nothing. Different governments offer different things. Programs end and change often. \n\nIn Canada definitely bargain and shop around for good phone plans. one idea is to get a pay as you go until “Black Friday” then every year or two when your good offer expires there will be many others. Telephone companies are the one place where people must bargain and even ask for better deals as a must.\n\nThe people you see living in big houses, will have kids that can’t afford the same. Yet how is this possible in a city that is always pushing out lower income people when wealthier people desire the area. \n\nIn Toronto, every time you move you have to take what is available and that might mean moving an hour away from everyone you know. This weakens communities. Plus, if you live too far from your work you will have no time to socialize for most the week due to travel time. \n\nI think those who grew up in Toronto do have a certain culture of acceptance with others from many cultures, because your friends at school were from all over. But with new migrants sometimes it isn’t until the second generation that their social circles get diverse. This can be isolating and it’s even isolating as those from Toronto eventually leave dreaming of staying in one spot and not forced to move constantly when a landlord investor sells every house you move into. \n\n\nToronto really needs to protect affordability of housing for at least some housing in every section so that people can save money if they live in the city, and not have to leave their communities and be far from their friends and family. \n\notherwise eventually people get sick of the hustle and it’s too tiring to travel 1+ hrs each way to visit someone during Monday to Friday. \n\n20 years ago any professional could at least buy a condo. Not today. There is too much competition now and investors are allowed to buy up all the most affordable housing that once was a pathway to owning a home. \n\nRich policy makers got greedy and destroyed canada and hopefully diversity in leadership will help make Canada better. But they perhaps people knew to Canada can reject this lonely structure and help us rebuild Toronto into an amazing place. \n\nWe need to make sure everyone can afford housing with 30% of their income. I have found that a majority of people coming to Toronto looking for drugs, streetlife, and complain, are from New Brunswick; a very large number of white ppl in ONPH, TCHC, are also from New Brunswick; the new growth in immigrants in encampment are not being supported by their own communities, like the recent women who died in a Mississauga, was not a drug addict, and 3 pregnant women sleeping in front of the immigration office on Peter St, received no assistance from the women who run soup kitchens or shelter system or churches until the public discovered that many of them were put on buses at Pearson, or from border crossings and delivered straight to that site on Peter Street; have you ever heard of a group of refugees coming to Toronto and not being supported by their own? No, because, what this really is, is a disgusting ploy by the NDP, Olivia Chow, Gord Perks, Andrea Horwath, Jagmeet Singh and many other groups, nonprofits and TCHC, ONPH, TDSB, TTC, who used the whole situation to force more funding and shelters and housing where their union members work; people really have no idea how bad these ghettos of TCHC/ONPH/NDP are; just look up Sunshine List and count the number of public and nonprofit agencies are on it; Kwame Addo, Susan Opler, John Kraljevic, Barry Thomas. Many of the city workers were also immigrants who came from the former Yugoslavia, and Russia, who held union positions in Communist countries; next election, check out the numbers who vote for the Communist Party of Canada

Many ways we could go about fixing this crisis. Obviously heavily limiting immigration would help, banning all diploma mills that are just student visa scams. Forcing municipalities to get rid of their awful zoning and restrictive rules, could be streamlined by running a nationwide referendum to make zoning a federal jurisdiction and not provincial/municipal and then just adopt something similar to japanese zoning nationwide. Banning or heavily restricting Airbnbs is an other thing that would help. A lot of what the BC NDP with Eby is doing should be done nationwide for sure. Regarding all the homeless people, we could offer them a job to build infrastructure, houses in exchange for a bed and food, something akin to what was done in the New Deal. Could be a super efficient way to get something like high speed rail built quickly. It'd be a contract they'd sign for 5-10 years and at the end of the deal they get compensation for the work they did. Also not every homeless can live in society. When conservatives got rid of institutions like mental asylums, all the people with non fixable conditions got thrown in the streets. Those are people who just can't, regardless of how much we do to help them, live in society, but their people like us so a modernized, humane version of the mental asylums would help a ton not just for these people, but also their family members who'd know that their kid or sibling is somewhere safe.

The more food you produce, the more people can consume it, and this in turn flows through the economy to enable all the other kinds of economic activity. We have to bring in hundreds of thousands of temporary foreign workers from Mexico just to be able to harvest. In the past, Canada allowed immigration from all over the world of people who were mostly poor, refugees, and those desperate for a new life. They worked all the time doing every kind of imaginable job in every kind of condition. They built this country with their perseverance and hard work. The immigrants today, are selected on a points-based system, and the idea behind this is that someone with two university degrees, or trained in a profession, even if they don't work in their field in Canada because they're all sorts of barriers to transferring your education, are not very likely to be criminals or antisocial types. In other words, Canada has chosen to attract high quality candidates on the assumption that they would be less likely to become criminals, while they in turn, having been picked from the best in their society, arrive in Canada with very high expectations, and discover that actually they're going to have to work in all sorts of other kinds of jobs and will probably not work in their field, even though that's what got them the points to come to the country. This is the brilliant system brought in by Stephen Harper's conservatives, which brings in people with high education, and allegedly high skills, especially high language skills, so the government doesn't have to pay for their language training, but it doesn't consider the fact that these are very often people with other choices, who are not willing to work in construction or farming or service or retail or all those kinds of things that we desperately need workers in. The reason why we can't build enough housing has nothing to do with local governments and property values. It has to do with lack of labor. This education system, for some unbeknowned reason, is absolutely terrible, and provides basically no skills, training or education for the vast majority of high school students such that when they graduate high school, their forced to go to university or college. Since they have absolutely no training. In most parts of the world you finish high school and you have a trade, or you have some skill to begin working, the kids here know nothing. Nothing. Other than emotional safety, intersectional language, and wokeism. On top of that, the government has brought in every kind of environmental restriction and regulation on account of incredibly loud, but actually small minority of enviro lunatics, who most of the time use these environmentalism as a cover precisely for protecting their high property values in very luxurious and special places around the country, and they oppose logging and all sorts of resource extraction under the guise of environmentalism. But it's actually to preserve their special privileged position often in some wilderness or island, where they might be the only one or a handful of families who got lucky to somehow own a property. Property and so they oppose everything on account of environmental reasons. But it's just to keep people out and preserve their own privileged place. This country also as most others suffers from the illness of dishonesty and lack of integrity brought about by a culture of marketers where nothing is the way it is said to be. Everything is a fine print. And we have gotten used to this as normal. We've gotten used to having credit cards, charges, 25% interest, we've gotten used to being ripped off constantly by all the corporations for everything, and nobody complains and they just borrow more and they just bottle it in and now it's finally coming out. Out. People are fed up of the enviral lunatics. They're fed up of people who complain and bitch one moment about the pipeline and then complain and bitch the next moment about the high cost of gasoline when the pipeline is temporarily shut down for servicing. The problem with Canada is Canadians.

Dude there’s no comparisons between Europe and North America. One is a rich welfare state and is already full. The other is a vast continent built by immigrants who will forever need new migrants, settlers, refugees, students or whatever fancy name they label them to boost the work force and ageing population or else they die out and the maim reasons rules are relaxed for newcomers to settle.

Canada has been ridiculously good to me and for me, even as I appreciate that this is not the average experience. I came here 36 years ago, when there were jobs looking for people, and not the other way around. Back then we had the choice to skill up some more or go in full force in careers, which worked for many of us. I can see how tough it would be for new immigrants now, especially professionals who were already established back in Africa not wanting to get re-validated in order to practice here. That is a journey best played out by new engineers, doctors and other crucial professions where they have time on their side and not feel like they are giving up much to start from scratch. Canada is great but each person has to weigh their reason for wanting to be here. If the scales tip this way, then one has to fully commit to the move to make it work. Otherwise, truly look to make that success happen wherever you are ..... Africa, Asia or Australia. It IS possible!

As an older person who migrated decades ago after protesting in my old country, I encourage young people below 45 to FIGHT for your countries. Fight bad goverments. 7 billion people on the planet cannot move to the few western countries that seem to work and appear attractive on the surface, it’s not possible. The taxpayers in those countries are feeling it. Look at the folks sleeping on the floor in NY! The homeless citizens don’t have places to sleep but politicians are lodging new border crossing migrants in hotels at taxpayers expense, creating resentment! \n\nFight those oppressing you in your countries. A doctor has a target of about 15 to 20 patients to see per day and rushes you out of his office because the corporation he works for only cares about money and KPIs! You really aren’t allowed to interact with patients and provide personalized service. A pharmacist has to fill anything between 200 to 350 prescriptions, give a certain number of immunizations and see a certain No of patients per day. There is no time for niceties! A corporate professional May work remotely but has to deliver on so many projects he is up till 10pm and only gets up to eat. We have beautiful homes, drive nice cars etc but MUST work like the clock in an assembly line fashion! Most of us pay so much of our income as taxes we end up with less than 70% as paychecks! Things aren’t always what they seem!
