NYC deserves what it is getting now. The city has had the worse reputation for years. Although that are many fine people who live there, the reputation for rudeness and arrogance in unmatched. I had to go to many business meetings in NYC and was even a schedule speaker a convention at Madison Square Garden. Whenever had had to go there,\nI couldn't wait to leave. I’m a 68 yr old female Senior (caregiver) living in my car because my only option after a 3 yr wait was BC Housing near the DTES … these are SLUMS that we are supposed to be Thankful for … most of these buildings answer to no one because they get their funding from a number of sources … the STAFF are allowed to treat the Residents anyway they like, with No Conscience… if Canada can’t supply decent housing to their Citizens then they should STOP IMMIGRATION… most new immigrants are treated better financially then the citizens who live here …. The building I lived in is called PENDERA at Pender St. & Beatty Street in Vancouver… it ALL looks good from the outside so people really want to move in …. That’s when the trouble starts … I lived in a RAT INFESTED APARTMENT FOR 6 yrs!!!

last time i was there was in late winter of 2017, there was a lot of red lights (warning signs) back then but people were euphoric because of the surge in real estate prices. the euphoria was so tangible, it felt like i was surrounded by a sect. then the mental health crises was a shocker. the rat race was worse than i remembered. i also realized how immature my generation in canada was, because in my circle barely anyone was getting attached to life long partners, ie being married. mid-sized cities felt like toronto in terms of immigrants. it was warmer. i have a feeling if i landed in toronto now it would be a late 80's eastern bloc feel to it, ie nobody believing in it anymore.

I spent a lot of time in Toronto going to college then university and working in the summer. I love certain pockets of Toronto, the diversity, the opportunity and the uniqueness it holds however I would never move to Toronto. I do live in the GTA with my family and we were fortunate to buy a house pre housing market increase in prices and thank God we did! If I were a young person starting off now I would 100% relocate to a smaller city up north if I could get work there or to another province in need be. It is not worth all the stress and unhappiness that the trying to survive in the rat race that Toronto has become.

I would add that because of the lack of investment in businesses and an open immigration policy while over-prioritizing Canadian only experience there is a huge underemployment problem especially amongst highly skilled and experienced immigrants who would mainly wait to get the Canadian passport and move down south to the US where evaluations of international experience is more objective. Lots of low to medium skilled jobs. Dear Canada, I say this as an immigrant, if you don’t have enough high skilled jobs don’t open your borders or make it clear you want low skilled immigrants. That said, Canada is great country with minimal crime and is fairly equal. Problem is, it’s hard to get out of the rat race here.
