While increasing trade import and export with another country we already do business with, making them very happy in the process and still making huge savings in the process. When 80% and 60% of your exports and imports respectively. Consists of literally sharing its only common border with the united states would mean a complete scrap of the total infrastructure since they would hace then compensate through sea and air through the arctic and distances of 10x of what they are used to. Then it starts to make sense as to why trump wants Greenland. I’m a 53 year old Canadian. I went to college on an athletic scholarship & lived there for 10 years after turned professional in my sport. Why, why, why - with all the problems going on in the world right now to tackle - why would you want to start a trade war with your closest trading partner & most loyal ally? Not to mention that your list of Allies is shrinking daily. This is not going to end well for either of us. \nI just arrived home from a trip to the grocery store - making sure nothing in my cart said “ made in the USA” on it due to the new tariffs that began today. \nThe irony is, many of the states where Trump won by the biggest margin, are the states that are going to get hit the hardest from Canadian retaliation tariffs ( Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana, the Dakotas - just to name a few). A lot of farmers in those states are going to be hit extremely hard with the fertilizer tax. After Canada, the next 3 largest Potash producers are Russia, Belarus & China. So , good luck \nWhen the cost of fruit & vegetables skyrocket across the US. Maybe you’ll put a little more thought into your vote 4 years from now.

I support Trump and I support MAGA. However a president needs to keep his word and Trump appears to have broken his word here. He asked Canada to reign in illegal immigration to the US and Canada complied. He said do something about fetanyl and Canada did. Trump said the tariff's were because Canada was not acting on these but now they have and we imposed the tariff's anyway. We look like liars and cheats. \nEven with Mexico we threatened tariffs if they didn't help with crackdown on illegal immigration, fetanyl, and drug cartels. Mexico complied and is also helping us. And we still slapped tariffs on them. We lied to Mexico too. \nAnd now we want everyone to trust us to negotiate a peaceful end to the Ukraine war with Trump threatening more sanctions on China and the EU. What the heck should they trust us and believe us after what we just did. \nWhen it comes to defining your character your willingness to keep your word overrules absolutely everything else. Our president gave his word that if these countries took certain actions there would be no tariffs. They did and now he slapped them both in the face with sanctions anyway. He broke his word. This is a dishonorable action. It's a common mantra for Canadian citizens and politicians to 'tax the rich' by closing loopholes and more recently reducing capital gains exemptions within corporations. As popular as that may be, it stifles innovation and corporate development within our country, especially while our neighbor to the south has a more business friendly tax system. Good luck boosting GDP when corporations and innovative entrepreneurs are lured southward. Even our hockey players move south.

Similar story, grew up in Vancouver as a kid. Can't say that I got much from Canada other than a pile of student debt. With a top engineering degree from a Canadian university, no jobs, no interviews. If it set me up for a better future, I could give it some credit, but even with visas, I had *much* better luck with opportunities in the US and even in western Europe, which is similarly socialist to Canada. I have had to move from country to country thanks to the lack of decent opportunity in Canada. More liability than asset, in my experience, other than the passport.
