I’m from Vaughan and they’re seeping into my cute Italian suburb

I'm an Aussie who did a Working Holiday in Canada and was shocked at the level of segregation in Canadian cities. They have literal cities that cater exclusively to one ethnicity; examples include Surrey and Brampton (Indian), Richmond, Burnaby and Markham (Chinese) and Vaughan (Italian). It's really funny cos Canadians that come to Australia like to lecture us on how welcoming and mixed Canada is when Canadian society is far more segregated than ours.

I work with someone Sikh. He happens to live in Brampton. So what? He's a great guy and he works hard. He's probably first generation, and he's as Canadian as anyone else I know. Everything I'm reading here is exactly what people once said about Irish and Italians. Give everyone some time to learn what being Canadian is all about. For the record I'm white and I've lived all my life, but I don't live in Barampton. I'm also first generation in this country, but I get a pass because my parents came here from Scotland, not India. That's not fair.

So I’m assuming that now you covered Brampton for its Indian population, you are going to do Vaughan for Italians next, or Chinese for Markham & Richmond, BC or Pakistani for Milton or Tamil’s for Scarborough or Jewish in Thornhill, etc..looking forward for series on ethnic enclaves all around the country.

My son is 16 years old can't even find a part time job unbelievable Canada is going down I'm a daughter of Italian immigrants and I can safely say Canada has lost its culture richness so sad

I have only one question.. why is the government allowing them into the country ? What is the reason and who is it benefiting??? As I commented before , my parents came to Canada in 1966 I was just a baby , Canada had endless jobs in manufacturing, and especially in the construction sector , I will say that immigrants back then , Italians , and Portuguese really built this country , the men and women worked sometimes two jobs , no hand out from the government , no sick days , Canada was beautiful growing up , .. that’s how I remember it , other immigrants followed , from Poland , and then the Indians started to come in by the 80”s .. fast forward to now , I’m embarrassed of our country , it’s disgraceful and disgusting, the transition from back then to now , I feel like I’m living in India , dirty , scammers , gangs , thief’s , murders , ignorant , entitlement; disrespectful etc .. facts , one thing that I can’t wrap my head around is the language barrier , why are these people working in customer service ? Why are they dealing with the public ??? Why are they in the health care industry, nurses , doctors etc , when they can’t speak the language???? Why are they accepted in these highly skilled positions? Just because you have the skill ? Isn’t knowing the language and being able to communicate a requirement regardless what job you have ? Why is the government allowing them in this country and then paying for them to have all these resources available to them ? Why ?? We need to start helping the people that have contributed to this country , that paid taxes and their dues FIRST … we do not have enough affordable housing , jobs , hospitals ,etc .Canada has falling , they are a financial strain on this country , it needs to STOP.. this isn’t the 60”s anymore Canada is to the max , no opportunity here anymore , send them back !

I'm Italian and I wish my country, and every country, had a Prime Minister as Mr. Trudeau. If I were Canadian I would mumble before substituting him.\n??

I’m a dual US-Italian citizen and I stand with Canada so nice to hear a compassionate speech with facts, and concern for the welfare of the public not dictators and oligarchs.

I find it hilarious what white people are pissed off at Brown people for doing the same thing that white people did to red people. No offense, since I don’t know if you guys drink coffee or not, but You do realize other countries export to the US. Have never heard of Guatemalan, Brazil, Peru, Marrocan, Ethiopia, Belgium, Costa Rican coffee? Arab countries etc. They all make great coffee. Coffee is not only from Colombia. There’s so various countries producing great coffee .\n\nThey all export coffee to the US. Unless you ONLY like Colombian coffee this shouldn’t be a problem. I’m sure this benefits other countries to expand. Each with distinct flavors and aromas. \n\nStarbucks imports coffee from over 30 different countries from Latin America, Africa, Middle East. \n\nIt’s like if Trump puts a 25% tariff on French wine. I love my French wine and it would suck. But I still love my Italian and Washington State wine.\n\nBananas like mention also come from other countries as well like Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras etc. \nBasically other countries exist that benefit from this. The only problem I could see is they can’t produce enough . Which I doubt. And I’m sure African countries or other countries can under cut prices if others try to inflate prices just to get market share in the US. \n\nAlthough, coffee prices are not only determined by supply and demand. Country of origin and brand also plays a role. Like I said it’s like wine. I love my cheap Washington State Merlots and my Italian Chianti, but people still buy over price California and French wine .

I'm from Brazil and I thing that here the things can be worse! Of couse that everyone have your opinion, but if people live here,, everybody will change your opinion! Abaut prices, violence, taxes.. The next year, i hope so, I will grap my italian citizenship and move on to Irland with my husband. We're 31 yeas old, and we are public servent, but it's impossible live here. I think that the world is change! Because he have war and others things. Sometime we want to go to Canada after Irland, and we look that can be a biggest oportunity for our live and our kids in the future!

Canadian multiculturalism has changed. It used to be you came here and became a Canadian... While still bringing in bits from where you came from. Now it's they come here and complain about Canada while bringing their whole package of where they came from for us to accept. I'm tierd of people assuming white Canadians are racist for feeling uncomfortable when their cities are being over populated with non English speaking people (and by the way... It's not just white Canadians feeling uncomfortable... So our media and politicians needs to stop making this a race war). When we allow this many of one group to come in and live together.. They have no insentive to integrate. Immigration 60 years ago was Europeans coming in... I remember my grandmother talking about how the Italians and Portuguese and Germans were coming over in large numbers and it was a shock to the system... But they at least learned the language and integrated. Why are we condeming Canadians for not wanting cultures today from coming here and putting their foreign culture above Canadian culture. I'm so sick of it. If you want to live in the way you did before you came here... The don't come here

I'm Italian and seeing this title I can't help but laugh. First of all, Canada belongs to the natives of the country, that doesn't include us, Europeans or anyone else. Native Canadians have a reason to be against us taking their land.

For anyone to reply: I’m on the fence here, I grew up in downtown Toronto in a very mixed neighbourhood. I do not like Trudeau liberals and NDP coalition. I disagree with the mass immigration under his reign: Canada’s healthcare system has been on life support for decades… inflation, tent cities and food insecurity. We need to fix our own problems before allowing immigration: “we need to put on our own O2 mask before helping others”. Stating that, since the Indian population has grown in Brampton, what’s the solution? They are already there— i know many ppl who have come to Canada and do not know the language, can only speak Italian, and Chinese… to name a few. Seems like the ppl who are already in Brampton can speak English, and chose to speak their own language amongst themselves. \nIn Toronto we have Greek, China, Corso Italia, little Tokyo, Little Jamaica, little Portugal, little Malta, Roncesvalles (polish), and Ukrainian towns. \nI’m on the fence: since they are already here, when is it considered Racism??? \nHonest question.. looking for insightful answers and or information.

We have this in Europa too Germany, England, Italian, Greeks can't take no more. Germany is the only country that pay so much welfare and children money. I m an an Belgian and there it look the same too. We all can't find no place to stay. Migranten live in Hotels . We take alot of Ukraine people and all borders is open for years. Now the German government want now more money to give for the kids. We taxe payers have to pay alot. Even they go with ships to England. They not afraid for the water. About the silent racism not only white people are racist\nBut also other races as well including other immigrants from other cultures. \n\nJust look Brampton, White people doesn't even exist, they're all fleeing from that city. \n\nI'm looking for a young Italian girlfriend in her 20's\n but I can't find any beautiful girl in Brampton cuz I only find Indian women only.\n\nSo.... where is the Racism???

Ok so there's a lot of back and forth racial comments in here so I'm going out on a limb. I've been living in castlemore bramton since 2005 1st phase. It was multicultural then, which is how it should be. I grew up in Woodbridge where there were more Italians than other cultures, but I could get a job there,and I did not feel out of place. The problem that I have with Brampton is that, the Indians do not hire any other culture in their business places, from the banks straight down to the grocery stores. I would also like to keep my property value up to par and even that's becoming hard. Segregation is UNACCEPTABLE!!. It bothers me that the government is allowing this to happen. I see job postings online that's asking for Punjabi as a second language. Any job postings in Canada should have either French or English requirement, any other language(s) is a plus. This comment is based on my own experience being a resident of Brampton. Facts is facts!

I would never ever live there . No way in punjabi community . I won't even visit there. I love my New York City . I'm United States citizen since 10 years and I do live with Italian Irish community . great people's and never get into another person business . God bless America ? !!!
