I’m a first generation immigrant. The selection process for us was extremely hard. We were well educated professionals with university degrees, healthy (checked), had to provide funds allowing us to live for at least 6 months without any support from welfare organizations, no OHIP for 3 months. Why has this system been changed? How do all these people without education, money or skills coming here? Why our country is flooded with illegal immigrants? I love Canada dearly. It’s my home now. I am terrified for my little girl when it is time for her to get a job because my little girl and I are white, so we are put at the bottom of the list for being employed. Nonetheless, I also support temporary residency for up to 6-9 months for those who have been evacuated due to war, natural disasters, or similar circumstances. My husband and I were both immigrants to Canada, he from S. Africa, I from the UK. I never experienced any discrimination. My busband was diagnosed with late stage bone cancer at 31 years old. The medical care was so good that he lived another 6 mostly happy years. We were supported by the Ontario Health Care system with visiting nurses, even housekeepers and received every help we could possibly need, at no cost to us. The Cato Institute was initially funded by the Koch brothers a extremely conservative organization that gets together a group of the brightest and the best in trying to determine what is the best solution.the Koch brothers were the group that invented the tea party I would love for anybody who disagrees with this post. I would like anybody who thinks that this is a far-fetched idea ,all I ask is that if you disagree with the finding that it should be legal with age restrictions if you disagree I would like to hear a solution that you have in mind that you think is better than the Cato Institute finding. I am under the impression that you do not have anything that remotely resembles a solution to this terrible problem. As someone living in Canada... I actually don't feel much of the things mentioned in the video. Sure, wages are not growing as fast as it can, but as someone who managed to purchase a home *before* the bubble started to expand, I'm living steady right now.\n\nWhat is REALLY causing a large part of the social and economic issues is actually the fact that provinces are NOT expanding new towns and cities in the millions of kilometers that needs to grow. Everyone is moving into cities, including refugees and new immigrants, which is driving up local prices and demand for everything. A few years ago, there were literally news of townships outside of the major cities offering houses and land for $50 per acre if people move to those towns and live there. \n\nCanada's biggest (heh) advantage is how much land it has. It's biggest weakness is how little comparative population it has. The worst problem is the concentration of population in like 6 keys cities throughout the entire country. If more people who complain about housing or social issues were willing to move outside of the major cities, they wouldn't have those problems.

They make it extremly difficult, no workers in health care, but they must have a B2 to Start with anything, who has 2 years yo pay for a course and doing nothing else before getting a Job?. Plus, there is not a clear way to Integration, after getting education, working 6 years and paying all taxes, NO answer for a citizenship aplication in 7 months, you can not even ask because the oficces are full of work. Having lived in Alberta for years and being raised in Ontario and then there is no way either should be higher than about 6 and I would put Alberta at 7. BC I would put first. In Alberta you have that nutso conservative premier and party. Ditto in Ontario. Alberta is a one industry province and when oil tanks which it does every few years the province is a wasteland. And in the winter it gets down to -50 at times. Ontario just sucks.

I live in Germany for about 6 years, moving from Bosnia and didnt have any of those problems mentioned, excluding the bureaucratic hurdels. Granted, i do speak German natively since ive spent my early childhood years here. To be fair i do think that learning the language of the nation you are moving to as fluently as possible should be a no brainer.\nWhat people arround the world need to understand is that European countries are NOT the USA. These are nations that exist for thousands of years with clear cultural parameters born out of centuries of strugle, war and hardship. These are strongly embeded into the minds of the people living here. The jist of it is that Europeans have known this for a long time, literally knowing ´´what the others are like´´. So its much easier to adapt. Of course it helps that most European countries have simmilar religious and social values.

Pews number is full of crap, I live in the center of the country and my small rural walmart alone is over run with foreigners that were not there a year or two ago. They speak zero English and are all under 5'6'' so its obvious where in the world they come from.

My youngest son would not be alive today if he was born in the states. rare heart condition had multiple heart surgeries and spent 6 months in ICU at Children's hospital. My wife and I although working would have not had health care insurance. we did not have to pay a cent. Now as a family who makes a very good living 180k a year I am happy to pay high taxes to support families who are going through the same things

This is disheartening... this means that my husband will never be able to live with us. My children will grow up without their father, and for some reason, Canadians are OK with Canadian children growing up in a broken home. It's going to take 35 months, for my husband to be able to immigrate to this country. That's 2 1/2 year that my kids won't have a dad, our son especially is suffering. He has a serious disease, is often hospitalized, and I'm a married woman living as a single mother. Now I'll need to rely on the government for more financial support, and my 6 year old is actually depressed because his dad is years away from being with him. I work full time, have a great home, and a side business. But now I'll need to depend on meds and disability support to take care of my child, when he has an ablebodied father that can support us, especially when our child is in one of his regular hospitalization. You all are cruel.

I have been living in Germany for 6 years and I never felt I could settle. Now that I have a German partner and I’m reconsidering things, but even with that it doesn’t feel like home. What most people here say is totally true: absurd bureaucracy, bad weather, angry people everywhere. Germany is not a country for everybody. You should know very well what you want to get out of the country before considering coming here.

I've lived here 6 years and can't wait to leave. Salaries are just enough to get by. I work full-time as an analyst and am looking for a minijob just to save money, which I already live quite modestly. It's easy to come across nasty unfriendly people, neighbors, service people, people in government agencies. I hate people staring in the most unfriendly manner or givng attitude for no reason other than they are nasty people. Don't get me wrong, there are nice people as well, but the bad experiences outweigh the good. Beauracracy is overbearing, personalities are underwhelming, the food scene is underwhelming, learning German is a big burden when you work a full-time job (and now I need a minijob too??). The country seems like it wants to diminish the human spirit and ambition. I definitely regret moving here. Many housing companies are over charging rent. I found out the company, Deutschewohnen, who owns my apartment was overcharging me by nearly double!! I had to go through a year long court procession to get them to lower it to the legal price which I won. And now they sent me a letter last month saying they are raising my rent, which is illegal and I have to go through ANOTHER court battle with them. Of course it is exhausting to try and find another apartment. Some people search up to a year. What a joke. And not to mention the dating scene. I've been single the entire 6 years and I'm quite an outgoing, friendly, loveable person. Dating Germans comes with own weird experiences and I refuse to give them a chance anymore, for my own mental health. If you're POC, it's not uncommon to come across strange sexualizations and general lack of understanding other's cultures. A couple years ago I was attacked by 8 men while walking home at night. I ended up in the hosopital and there was an investigation opened. The police asked me why they attacted me, which I didn't know since it was unprovoked. They just followed me for awhile, surrounded me and started beating me. The police said it was probably because I'm Asian. Meanwhile, I'm not even Asian!!! I'm Latino. ??‍♂This is the type of ignorance POC have to deal with in Germany. Also, I only have 1 German friend and all my other friends are immigrants (which I love) but this poses it's own frustrations because many people move here, then move away after a few years when they learn they can have a more fulfilling life elsewhere. So keeping long term day-to-day friends can be a challenge. The entire system is exhausting and there's not enough balance to bring joy to my life to want to stay. When I lived in NYC, an African American aquaintance had just moved there after living in Berlin for 8 years. She warned me not to move here because I will never feel I belong. I didn't listen. How about this one I'm dual citizen Polish and Canadian long time loong time :) and I have polish passport that's needed and Canadian Polish one I just pay few bucks and I get it no signatures of acquaintances like in Canada. I'm completing my college degree in engineering and will start doing my last semester here in Germany. Looking from the outside I was amused by the German excellence, its safety and opportunities it seemed to have. I'm 52 years old and a Canadian citizen my whole life. Canada has always been a welcoming country. I have friends from every part of the world here in Canada. But in the couple years there has been a brutal influx of Indians in Canada. My build alone had maybe 3 Indian households. Now more than 60% of the building is indians. And the problem is 6 to 8 people living in a 2 bedroom apartment. We use to have 1 garbage bin in the basement. Now we have 3 and they are over flowing and they leave garbage everywhere( I've watched them do it). Not everyone has house keys so they leave the security door open all hours of the day allowing criminals to get into the building. They have shit in the laundry room and the garage(I have seen this happen). They smoke in the building halls and lobby. They Dont use laundry detergent when washing their clothes so the laundry machines stink really bad. I have to was the laundry machine before even putting my clothes in.Also they have taken every job in the business in my neighborhood. They aren't very friendly. They come into my restaurant and act like entitled brats and hang out for 6 to 7 hours in groups of 20 and don't tip. They're loud and demanding. Now our regular client's have stopped coming. Since these new Indians have come here they have tainted everything. I have never been a racist individual in my whole life. My family is very diverse. We are white, black, packistan, and Asian. In the last 3 years I am so disgusted in the quality of people that have been coming to this country. The biggest group is Indians. I'm sorry but be don't need any more of these assholes. I was born in Canada when my father was here on a temporary workpermit. But he took us back to India and that is where I grew up and completed my UG to return back to Canada. After comming back I completed my Masters and PhD and Post-doctoral studies. again I relocated back to India and lived there for another 6 years and then I moved to US. But again I moved back to Saskatoon, Canada just recently. Because I realised that Canada is the best place to live. Now I am not going anywhere else. Will live here until my last breath.

I came to Canada in 2020. I studied for 3 years in London, Ontario, and moved to Toronto 6 months ago to work. My opinion is that the city of Toronto is deeply ill and something is definitely wrong. I live and work Downtown, and have to pay 2650 CAD/month to live in 400 sq ft inside a condo. There are no trees/wild animals within many square kilometers of my house, but there are a lot of homeless people and dangerous drug addicts. I learned the hard way that living in Toronto and visiting Toronto as a tourist are totally different things. I hope to be able to leave the city as soon as possible, and possibly get back to London.

Salaries aren't keeping up with rising prices in Germany at all. I've been living and working in Germany since Jan 2019, and right now,after almost 6 years, I make only 5% more (gross) than what I was making back then. At the same time, grocery costs has double since then. That's absolutely insulting.

This summer I went with my kids and wife to 6 different countries in Europe Eastern Europe and Central and have seen 2 alcoholic then I come to Canada I see thousands of drug addicts on the street. everything is overpriced ppl do not enjoy in here. When I came in 2000 Serbian economy was low due to the war now it is better and Canadian economy is worse so the gap is very small. you need to make 6000$ to live just ok and I do live well but there is always but. I call it a pressure cooker, I wish all Canadian travel abroad a bit just to realize that they were lied too and that there's a lot of bs. I can give you an example: Condo in Belgrade same size property tax is 200$ per year condo in Qc Gatineau 2500$ plus condo fees 400$ per month basically 7000$ wasted for what? no dr wholes on the street broken system. It will be for sale. I agree paying taxes on my house where I live but for rental property when you deduct all the expenses you invested so much money without any profit. the one that works and the one that scams the system make the same amount of money and we live approx the same. something is wrong there. I will live for many years to come but definitely not spending my whole life here due to many circumstances and expenses. Family values are getting killed and I have issues with that. The more I was pushed to change the more I went to church and believed in old fashioned traditional values. I lived through two in Canada in 4 years: one Federal, and one through Provincial Youth Court where I await my turn to see a judge after my daughter was removed from my care. People do not know they have no biological ownership of their children, because I guess few Canadians value their children to care about their own laws. But these laws also apply to immigrants too. What money was taken from me during the move and resettlement, the government takes by creating more expenses for me than I could ever imagine or budget for. Emotionally, I am a wreck. Rather than commencing my writing career, I have been seeking low-income lawyers, reading the provincial law on Youth Protection, filing complaints within a circular system (the watchdog is part of the system not outside of it) and preparing all evidence to prove I have done nothing wrong [just like in communist rule]. Have you ever given any thought to the difficulties in proving your innocence? \nNO ONESEEMS AWARE OF THIS DETERENT TO BRINGING CHILDREN TO CANADA. NO ONE. IT IS THE ONLY ONE I COULD NOT PLAN FOR. All other complaints like the economy, or the weather, or inflation I have survived. But taking away my child, my reason to settle in Canada for a life of freedom for her, my legacy, was unthinkable. People ask me in this small village where is my daughter. Their rosy cheeks become snow white when I tell them. Canadians here are unaware and scared like cattle in a thunder storm. Many are addicted to welfare payments, cannabis, prescription drugs, and television. They all seem to be waiting in a pen of fear. I am stuck here now, with little financial resource to fight for my child's life. It is unfortunate that no one will read my comment because it is an inscrutable wall of text or too frightening. Unless someone reads it, no help will come for my daughter. (Because she is a dual citizen, the local Polish Ambassador will not step in - another drawback for having a Canadian passport). Hi Alina . I remember you had a bad experience in Colombia. But I live there 6 months a year now. I hope everything is fine with you . Your a very nice person. I intent to get a Visa in the city of Pereira Colombia. it:s affordable I pay 360 a month for rent and meals are like 4.50. It's ok for me I'm retired. Canada is in a sad state now. I can live any country I want with my background and experience, easily making over 6 digits paycheck. \n\nHowever, I’d not consider living in Germany because for one simple reason: the political environment. The hardcore right is on full rise. Racists everywhere. The Nordics are much better.
