I was born in B.C. but moved to Ontario when I was a young child. I always wanted to go back, so finally I did in retirement, settling in Kelowna, in the Okanagan. It was paradise and I loved it there. However, my husband had to move into a nursing home this year, and I was forced to sell our house, deciding to move to Calgary, Alberta. So far I like Calgary a lot. I'm used to the snow, coming from Ontario, but I miss Kelowna like crazy. At least my husband is still there, and it's only a short flight for me to go and visit him.

It's a good move yes totally agreed of what you've said about Canada i'm an immigrant from Cambodia 35 years ago and had settled on Cordova street, Vancouver in 1989 couple blocks away from EAST HASTING. You're right it was not that bad then it was very safe and i used to shop for clothes at Army and Navy and walk around that area a lot. i did not feel unsafe at all of course there was drug addicts a few here and there but not like this magnitude right now, homeless totally invaded China now and it's unrecognizeable as it once was very sad indeed. Okay so no 100 k wont' get you that life you dream of, you'll get by in BC, but you can't buy anything. You can rent, you need 200 k now in BC, Kelowna average house is 1.1 m, Vancouver 1 bedroom is 3000 +, nobody wants to live in a jail cell, but maybe some wierdo's do? I don't know. \n\nIf your working and making 100 k in Vancouver, your working likely many hours for that, meaning there is no pay off, no car, rent a small apartment, have little savings.\n\nNow here's the REAL catch. If you make what some think is rich in Canada say 300 k a year. That works out to 182,000 after taxes, pension etc. Now homes in Vancouver, well let's maybe look at small condo's, hmm lets say a 850 sq foot condo sets you back 900 k, monthly mortgage is 6000, that's 72,000 a year, insurance, no car okay can't afford it, maybe a small car, 1000 a month insurance, payments fuel etc, cable, internet phone, etc etc food, another 2000 for a family of 3, wife one child. Thats now 9000 a month, dental, eye glasses, clothes, sports, other, another 1000 a month, 10,000 a month = 120,000 a year to live in a small 2 bedroom condo in Vancouver. Oh and condo fees 500 per month, so 126,000 a year, no extras yet.\n\nmeaning if you make 300 k a year and lets add on JOB expense, usually with high income comes some expenses, lets call it 6000 a year, suits, whatever. Thats 132,000 minus the after tax income of 182 and your left with 50,000 per year for savings and xmas, travel etc.\n\nNow you make 300 k a year and you live in a small 2 bedroom apartment and maybe some day, 10 years down the road you can buy a home. \n\nAnd the max you can afford on 300 k a year is around 1 million after a 100 k deposit.\n\nNow if you make more than that, there is NO reason to live in Canada, in BC they take 48 % of my income and what do I get lol, zilch, bad health care haha fun,

I was surprised my Colombian friend lives In las Vegas in a huge beautiful house for the cost for one bedroom apartment in Kelowna

My friend l came to Canada 1976 graduated from Concordia and this is not the Canada l always wanted. I live in Ottawa and l like to eat at any Subway in Ottawa and in those Subway there is not a single Canadian working only Indian fuck. If you go to Kelowna is the same fucking thing. I can not understand this at all. Trudeau did not protect the entries point of this country ???????

Sorry but see ya!\n\n1 I am tired of the weather -40 is a no no and most of our country hits it a few times a year. 52 years and this is my LAST winter. What a Relief!!\n2 I am tired of the MASSIVE greed in real estate that has been allowed to flourish. No way most of Gen Z will ever be able to own homes, if the are lucky they will get one passed down to them, shame you have to wait for a family member to DIE to own your own home :( Benchmark prices for home in Victoria 1.2 million, Vancouver 1.18 million, Kelowna 1 million. Very few people can afford a 6k+ a month mortgage. Shame on our govts that allowed this to happen.\n3 I am tired of the degradation of the family unit. Western morals have gone for crap, crime is up and people are happy to threaten each other. \n4 I am tired of the lack of available health care. All i can get is a 3 minute phone call after booking 4 weeks in advance??? wow \n5 I am tired of the people too, but in different ways. Way too much like USA now, people that pride themselves for ignorance, willfully ignoring science and safety or even common sense.\n6 I am tired of the governments, provincial and federal. ALL of the parties suck and will not do what is needed here. We are getting as bad as the USA. (which will soon tear itself apart!!)\n\nCanadians are a LOT more xenophobic than we might show. Same thing here…day or night Vancouver Victoria Kamloops Kelowna Prince George or Rupert etc… just keep going east and north… it’s all changed… there’s no where to go but stay the course of hard work for nothing or get evicted and get pushed further by the governments and police driven by the gentrification happening in the towers and townhouses pushing the rest of us away…OH CANADA ??

Well they sure are not leaving Kelowna, Vancouver or other parts of BC. We are having a huge influx issue!\n-----\n If you are muslim....you get a free pass to come here. Anything to increase the crime in our peacefull Christian founded nation! ?

Instead of leaving Canada why not move to a smaller City like Regina or Kelowna ? Do immigrants just have to live in Vancouver or forget it ?????

I rode the Greyhound bus from Vancouver to Kelowna many years ago, in winter.\nScenery along the mountains was nice, looking down and up was also scary.\nCloser to Kelowna, WTF are the trees!

British Columbia is gorgeous! You only showed cities like Vancouver and Victoria and completely missed the beautiful 'wide open spaces', the beauties of places like Banff, Lake Louise, the National Parks, the famous ski hills, the northern province where living is less expensive, the Rockies, the amazing wildlife, the Okanagan (Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton, where people are flocking to live) with colorful Kalamalka Lake, International airports, great winter snow sports and summer water sports, fishing and hunting, goldpanning, Entertainment centers, job opportunities--Construction never slowed down for a second during Covid in Kelowna. B.C., a beautiful place to live! And remember--'Life is what YOU make it'! By the way, you never mentioned the Oil in Alberta, which makes it a pretty independently wealthy province!!

Imo Kelowna British Columbia has the best weather in canada. Gets up to 40 degrees in the summer but max gets like -10 degrees in the winter. And it’s sooo beautiful
