As a non Indian Canadian born and raised I’m disgusted where my country has gone. Our population has doubled since 1980, not by birth rate, but because of the amount of Indians that have immigrated here. Unfortunately, they have no desire to assimilate, they bring their own culture and they stay in their own communities. The government offers tax breaks for businesses, hiring foreign workers over people born in Canada, leaving the youth without any part-time work. On top of that some of my favourite restaurants growing up, I haven’t eaten at in years because it’s been taken over by Indians, the quality of food goes down, you end up getting food poisoning and if you aren’t in their community, you get worse service and get charged more than what an Indian would pay at the same restaurant. They don’t understand cleanliness or sanitation, they leave their garbage and waste on the street and dump it in random locations, and quite frankly have no respect for anyone who lives here or the country that has taken them in. I feel like a minority of my own country and I truly don’t understand what being Canadian means anymore because I’m pretty sure being Canadian is a thing of the past. Most of my friends have moved further north, to Vancouver island or moved out to the prairies to get away from them and higher prices as everything gets more expensive, thanks to our government, caring more about immigrants than citizens. When a family gets accepted to come here they bring their parents their aunts and uncles their brothers and sisters on temporary visas, they also collect social assistance as soon as they arrive and when their visas expire, they have no desire to go back, which has resulted in thousands of illegals remaining here. I mean I get it. Why would you go back when you’re getting treated better here and are given food, housing and an allowance every month but it’s gotten to a point where India outnumbers Canadians. I want them all sent back.

Canada calls students to give them PGWP after finishing their educations in Canada. The students pay ultra high education and life expenses. Then, Canada says we don’t need this much skilled worker as white collar, but you can works as uber drivers or Tim Hortons workers. The reason is Canadian youths don’t want to work in those odd jobs. However, Canadian people complain about the immigrant odd workers. They think economy is bad because of those immigrants who paid thousands of dollars for education and have been working in odd jobs. This is stupidity. Canada government exploits immigrant students by making them spend thousands for education and can only provide odd jobs for most of the immigrant students who hold PGWP work visa. Then some almost-racist Canadian folks stand against immigrants who have actually been exploited.

Canada is not bringing in immigrants to work. I am a child of immigrants. My parents worked hard from the day they landed and given 0 from the government. Today, these "new Canadians " get free housing, free large amounts of money(which they use to send back to their homeland)...while we , born Canadians find it hard to pay our everyday expenses. Does this make sense.? The government has to stop handing out our hard earned money. Take care of your own first. And we have to endure bending to their culture not them learning our culture...our humility and kindness. This is not about to being welcoming to everyone , this is about calling out to the government start cleaning up this mess before we ( born Canadians) find ourselves without a country of our own.

These individuals (refugees, etc.) are receiving government funding of $ 10,000 a month. They boast on TikTic that if you come to Canada as a refugee, the government gives you free housing and $85K a year. You do not have to work, As soon as they arrive in Canada, they are driving expensive cars, getting free food from Costco, getting credit cards from the bank and purchasing houses. They drive Teslas, BMWs, and the most expensive cars that they could have never ever owned in their country. The healthly men do not work and live a luxurious life all at the expense of we the tax payers. Meanwhile, hard-working, tax-paying Canadians are living paycheck to paycheck. Unlike other jurisdictions, in Canada municipalities are responsible for all transport infrastructure and utility infrastructure with the exception of major provincial highways, airports, and electricity and gas distribution systems. Meanwhile, Canadian municipalities can only levy property taxes and no income or sales taxes. Thus, Canadian municipalities governments are very attached to property owners, leading to the political conditions that make housing harder to build and new housing more expensive. The vast majority of the policies restricting housing supply and increasing costs of new housing, like development charges on new homes to fund infrastructure instead of taxing existing property owners, onerous and restrictive zoning regulations, and slow and expensive permitting processes all come from the cities. Honestly, for many city politicians it is to their advantage to make the crisis worse. Why wouldn’t a city councillor vote to raise development charges on building new homes instead of raising property taxes on existing homes to pay for stuff like replacing life expired sewer and road and subway infrastructure!? His constituents aren’t going to care about the costs of new homes, which affect people moving to the city or younger generations, which are either not yet residents of the city or too young to vote.

The US manufacturers don't make a single small car in thos country that can compete with European cars. US agricultural products are laced with poisonous chemicals that are outlawed in the EU because they kill people. If my country doesn't get housing costs under control they're in serious trouble. The average house in the town I live in is something like 900K and there's basically no local economy. With costs so high I can't afford to start a family. If we keep gaining old folks needing healthcare while keeping housing expenses high and wages low taxes will have to keep going up.\n\nI am not going to continue to pay huge portions of my income for the benefit of the elderly while I can't afford a decent lifestyle. If Canada cuts down on those selected immigrations but still takes in refugees, it’s only going to make anti-immigrant sentiment worse. Selected immigrants are allowed into Canada to help alleviate Canadian issues…or at least people who come through Express Entry are less likely to become a burden. On the other hand, refugees, given their unfortunate circumstances, really need to rely on a lot of social services and resources to help them resettle. The US has eliminated pretty much all non-humanitarian immigration that’s why immigrants are so demonized there. Americans only feel the drags of refugees and asylum seekers (even though ethically we need to protect them) and there is no selected immigration to balance that out. Yet this round of Canadian policy change is heading exactly that direction.\n\nIt used to be international students in Canada are not paying a lot more tuition than Canadian students. But Canadian universities saw how much money universities in the US are making so they asked the federal government to change the policy to enable them to charge international students several times the regular tuition (whereas in countries like France, international students actually pay less than citizens). So now Canadian universities rely too much on international students to operate and it becomes an exploitative relationship even before students step foot on the campus. The new PGWP eligibility is awful because students can make contributions in every field. It might (and that's a big if) address the pressing problems, but it won't help Canada grow.\n\nI thought the new language requirement was interesting. Some Canadians who immigrated decades ago when the bar was really low still speak English poorly and now they are saying people can’t come to Canada because their language skills are not sufficient. So it’s a given that you need to be fluent in one of the languages at least to get an invitation. This protest is a joke! They know what they signed up for before coming to Canada. So,  they should work within the rules and find a way to legally settle (if they can) or leave. \n\n\nHowever, Canadians deserve to know more about this mess which is an outcome of aggressive marketing by Private colleges and the government's greed to get quick cash into the Canadian economy. Here are some clarifications to note:\n\n\n1. In the last six years, 1.5 million international students brought a minimum of $67,500,000,000 direct cash into the Canadian economy. (Assuming a min $40-45000 per student for 2 year diploma, between to $100,000 - 150,000 for undergrad, and around $50,000 for Masters degrees). Usually, international students have to pay most of this money before applying for the study visa. \n\n\n2. These colleges employ Canadians for their day to day operations. From cleaning, maintainance, administration to teaching, each college operates with approx 20-30million budget. So, more students lead to more employment for Canadians who further pay taxes.\n\n\n3. All students start work straightaway, pay taxes, and do not qualify for social security. They do not qualify for any student loans by Canadian govt or banks. So, they generate revenue for Canada through their work and taxes. The thing that govt LOVES.\n\n\n4. These students become new consumers and their expenditure generate revenues for local businesses.\n\n\n5. Most Colleges would not survive without international students. Which is good in the sense that only quality colleges will survive and other hanky panky colleges would shut down. However, such closures will lead to job losses, bankruptcy when the colleges won't be able to afford their expenses.\n\n\nSo, considering these factors it will be an industry collapse. Govt needs to control immigration. They need to introduce intelligent policies. The steps that current govt is currently taking are politically motivated not rational.

Too many in already, the question is how many are actually helping Canada grow or just squatting or causing headaches for locals? Have they started deporting undesirables? In Canada, there is not enough housing and jobs are scarce, especially for anyone at the entry level or basic wage. We've been absolutely swamped. This is not the fault of the immigrants or the students, it's the fault of our extremely stupid and short sighted government. Most of those immigrants I encounter are good people, polite and considerate. But some, well I understand where the complaints about rude and inconsiderate behaviour come from, because it only takes a few bad experiences to get people angry. I've experienced it myself, but most of it (from my experience) seems to be from students who are very loud and impolite on public transit. The housing situation here is INSANE, prices are sky high and very little to choose from. A lot of seniors now can only afford to rent a room (after having worked all their lives and very little to show for it), and prices are up about 50% from only 5 years ago. The government says inflation is a fraction of what it is in real life, and living expenses have exploded. As I understand it, some people made a lot of money offering services to bring students and low wage workers in, with no consideration to the damage they were doing to all of us who were born and raised here - they wanted to make their million dollars. Another problem is that once someone arrives here, what they find is NOT what they were led to believe. What students and immigrants are told they need to live here is an absolute lie, living here in Canada has become very expensive. Many workers are severely under paid, and never even see the legal minimum wage, and the problem with that is, almost no Canadian will be hired on to those jobs - the reasons are that imported foreign workers will work below minimum wage because they are trapped here, and the Canadians already know that they will only struggle if they take jobs that pay so poorly. So yes, a lot of Canadians are VERY angry, and you really can't blame them. Once again, the Canadian government is responsible for much of this, and crooked employers who are willing to take advantage of low wage labour. It's an absolute mess.

My daughter is nearing the end of 2 great years in Canada on an IEC (backpacker) visa from Australia. She’s loved the people, the landscape (mostly lived in BC and Alberta) , and working there…. She picked up interesting jobs, worked very hard, just about made ends meet, has been great. \n\nShe was even offered a permanent job by a major Canadian co last year (she was working for them on a one year role at the time) that would’ve paved the way for her to apply for PR…but she turned it down without a second thought….. for all the reasons you would know about \n\n- Wages aren’t great (maybe 20% less than australia), \n\n- taxes are high (incl having to pay CPP…in australia the employer pays all pension contributions, on top of wages), \n\n- groceries prices out of kilter, \n\n- rents consume most of what’s left…. \n\n- AND, even if you could save a deposit for a house, or shoebox apartment….what’s the point, could never afford it. \n\nShe’s seen nearly all her Canadian friends resigned to their fate of being perennial renters, of being perpetually skint. It’s no life. She’s sad to see it - coming from a country of perpetual optimism and opportunity, to learn over time how such a (on many levels) similar country isn’t like that, that has somehow got it all so wrong. \n\nIf you are thinking of “australia” as your answer, it’d be a fair call\n\n- Avoid Sydney if you can (a less expensive Vancouver) but rest of the place is “workable”. \n\n- Average wage in Perth is $100k (C$90k) and average house (full size…not an apt or townhouse) price is about $700k (C$630k) …so do-able, if tight to start with, for youngsters (like you..!) \n\n- I’ve been to Vancouver’s East Hastings St, and so can confirm is nowhere close to that in Oz. Are sketchy parts of all cities, but it’s definitely not community wide\n\n- are small pockets of homelessness (esp but not only indigenous community) but the governments are mostly (sort of…) “on it” \n\n- sun, sea, sand… and the sharks rarely come close to shore!

Honestly speaking, I never thought that there’s a lot of issues going on in Canada, during the college seminar, we were told that there’s good education (which is completely true), good pay rates for work, good housing and good society. After coming to Canada, I realized the rents are sky high, homeless people everywhere (it’s not their fault, they are homeless because of the government), drugs & weeds, everything’s expensive, high tax, couldn’t able to get even a low wage jobs? if I know these things are going to happen then I won’t come to Canada, also I don’t have enough money to pay back my education debt and I can’t go home without earning a single penny, I’m trying my best to spread awareness about the real issues that’s going on in here and I hope people will think twice before coming to Canada. \n\nOther than that, Canada?? is a beautiful country with amazing people, places and culture, I would love to be a part of it but if the situation is not gonna improve then I prefer to go back to India??

At the end of the day the main issue is the Government used Indian students to supplement the economy at the expense of the Canadian citizens. Now in 2024 the Trudeau liberals still refuse to pause it because of the economic impact it will have on their corporate friends and the schools. They also subsidize immigrant students which incentivises businesses to only hire Indian students. Canadians can't find affordable housing or a minimum wage job and Indians are paying the price. I feel bad saying it because I'm not a racist but I don't want anymore Indians, or any immigrants at all, here unless they fill a vital need in the economy. We simply no longer have the housing or jobs and it's as simple as that. Enough is enough.
