Whenever someone tries to strike up a racist conversation with me about immigration I say "I know what you mean, Canada needs more black people right?"

Tried to have a conversation with my Indian Uber driver. He only responded with "I am here 2 years" and "No English". And that's not an uncommon occurrence anymore.

I’m a proud Indian who is now a Canadian citizen, and I’ve made a conscious effort to assimilate into Canadian culture and values. What bothers me is how this conversation has been reduced to blaming one group. The reality is that the Canadian government failed first by not properly managing immigration volumes, not enforcing document verification, and not honestly assessing whether the country could support such rapid population growth. That policy failure created pressure on housing, jobs, and social systems long before resentment followed. We also need honesty within the Indian community. Some Indians struggle to adapt being overly loud, culturally rigid, and sometimes lacking empathy for Canadian norms and shared public spaces. I studied Canadian and Indigenous history in school, and respecting that history matters. Assimilation doesn’t mean abandoning your culture, but it does mean understanding and respecting the society you chose to join. Cultural education should be expected, not optional. That said, one Indian doing something wrong does not make all Indians bad. Most Indian students and workers I know are hardworking, punctual, and serious about contributing. I’ve personally worked minimum-wage jobs for years, and what I noticed was not jobs being “taken,” but fewer Canadian youth willing to stay in or commit to these roles long-term. Indians didn’t replace Canadians, they filled vacancies that already existed. I also briefly volunteered helping the homeless, and what I saw was honestly shocking. It’s not that the government isn’t trying to help there are rehabilitation programs and support systems in place. The difficult truth is that a significant portion of the homeless population struggles with substance abuse and refuses treatment because it requires giving up drugs. Over time, homelessness itself starts to function like a culture, where benefits and assistance unintentionally enable continued substance use rather than recovery. This is an uncomfortable reality people don’t like to talk about. None of this is simple. Immigration didn’t break Canada, and neither did one community. Poor policy, weak enforcement, lack of accountability, and refusal from governments and individuals to adapt responsibly is what brought us here. Blame is easy. Honest solutions are not.

Man just give it a break with your doomposting .All of them are just trying to earn a decent living and are atleast being productive members of society. They're not even bothering anyone with their customs with (no loudspeakers or force conversions unlike some other people) and just want to be treated with some decency.

Oh the IRONY! If you aren't First Nations, you ARE an immigrant. Why don't you actually all make an effort to learn at least a few words in our languages; the ACTUAL languages of Our country 🙄. You can't be that dumb. I'm not trying to be harsh, but most of us speak our language and 1 or 2 languages from the European settlers here. It really suits everyone here to never bring Indigenous people into your conversations while you call it "Your country, your 'Canada', you culture". Everyone who's ancestors aren't from need to do better. It blows my mind how you come here and fight against each other while being immigrants yourselves. You demand assimilation from others while you yourselves aren't Indigenous, and don't make the slightest effort to assimilation to OUR culture. Complete hypocrites.🤣🤣🤣 If I were you, I'd be ashamed. I can't see myself ever going to someone else's country, living in it, let alone being born in it, and have the audacity to act and speak with that amount of utter continuous ignorance and disrespect the way most of the European settlers and other settlers/"Canadians" do. Do better before complaining about each other cause, you're no better and immigrants yourselves. Oh ya, and film Native Child in the background at 7:06, the place not First Nations operated known for stealing our children and getting tons of funding to line their pockets while almost all reserves have no clean drinking water, houses breaking down, unable to get work outside due to racist from all types of immigrants (yes, including European 'Canadians'), but putting a video of a European 'Canadian' talking about not being able to afford cable and her bills. Because these things are happening to European settlers/ 'Canadians', now it's finally a problem. The IRONY.

I dont know. Twice , Ive met Canadians down here in the states. And right off both times they were complete assholes to me. Not just me.but our country The one guy I tried make friendly conversation and I mentioned I was going to a race tomorrow and he goes off on America and their racing , americans and their gasoline.Liked he walk here lmao..what an asshole..just rude ..I dont feel bad for Canada one bit. Didn't this man resign back in January due to low approval ratings? Nobody takes you seriously Sir, not even your own citizens. You did not want to secure your own border when it was in both of our best interests to do so. President Trump said we are pursuing diplomacy, not siding with Russia. As he said, if you are trying to negotiate a deal between two enemies you can't cast one out and only deal with one. You need the two sitting at the table and you have to be fair to both sides. The liberals want an endless war so they can profit from it. Most of them are heavy investors with defense contractors and that is not a coincidence. It is a conflict of interest. I disagree with how President Trump handled that meeting as those tough conversations should have happened privately. Nonetheless those conversations absolutely needed to happen. Thousands of Ukrainians and Russians dying and cutting blank cheques year after year with no end in sight is insanity. Each side is going to have to give something to end this.

Don’t they understand that being in the USA illegally could land them in Guantánamo Bay Cuba for cruel and unusual torture by the USA? Why on earth would they want to come into a country like the USA which is declining? There is no freedom or liberty here. The USA is still a master and slave economy just in different ways with white supremacist British Americans leading the master and slave relationships.\n\nThey should really stay in their countries and force renewal of those countries \n\nBut the US is dying, and the end of the USA is approaching. Hell no! It’s a fun place to visit, I love Florida California. I’m looking forward to going to the Carolinas, but I would never move there permanently. As a woman in Canada with children, what I do with my uterus is nobody’s business. I like my option of 18 month parental leave. I like my option not to do overtime and not have affect my job. I like my vacation and I like my sick leave. We have a safety net up here for mother‘s allowance child tax credit unemployment insurance. It is a safety net for hand up, not a handout .You guys like to pick your presidents and what your comedians will make for a living for the next 4 to 8 years. Up here we pick our Prime Minister‘s based on what they do up until they are seeking election and vote accordingly. We’re not allowed to carry weapons and use them for protection up here we look out for each other. I would prefer my children to live in a multicultural society where they are just used to other traditions and culture and Orientationchoices. That is not based on the colour of your skin. I like to have a conversation about a political opponent without it getting dangerous you’re allowed to have an opinion up here and that’s how we view it, but quite frankly after half an hour 15 minutes we we get bored of political views and just walk away from you.There’s no such a thing as you don’t want to live in that area and you have to be careful about where your kid goes to school. What does that do to the people that you’ve left behind? How does that make that better for them? I had a friend that worked down in the United States and every time I talk to her, she always uttered. I have to be aware of my white privilege. What the hell is that and I have never seen anything in your news down there about your native society we try to acknowledge and integrate them quite frankly, you guys are just worried about yourselves and not about anybody else

I was in the emergancy room waiting room one time, an american was visiting and his wife had a heart attack she was operated on inside of a day and the husband was trying to pay his bill and he was shocked that his bill was only 2500 dollars and he kept asking if he was going to get a bill in the mail, he would not! But he kept saying that this happened in his hometown and it cost him 60,000 Dollars oh by the way he had not even thought about the money conversion so his bill was 2500 canadian not american.

Hi… I totally agree with just about everything you stated in all aspects of the Indian community. I’m a Canadian who happens to be living in Brampton for the past 12 years. I’ve watched Brampton go from a beautiful community to a dark dreaded place to live , and this is truly because of Indian behaviours. Mind you I have many genuinely good intelligent respectful Indian friends, but there’s the others that thinks they owe the city, province, and country. They don’t respect no one, and I mean no one. NOT EVEN THEIR OWN KIND (Indians/ Punjab). And yes as a Canadian citizen whenever I see something I do call them out on it. However; the moment you say something to them they assume that you’re cursing at them and what was ment to be a respectful comment becomes a situation where they want to argue and even get into a physical fight. Then there’s the bad, careless driving on the streets with no regards to the next person’s life. They drive like their car is the only one on the street yet always looking for someone to race with not to mention the illegal U-TURN creating major accidents. I personally experienced this when a Tractor Trailer Driver tried making a U-TURN on the city street with only 4 lanes for both direction at 4AM in the morning. This caused me to almost ran under the trailer body which would have been the end of my life. They butt into lines and interrupts as much as business conversations thinking their concerns are way more important than anyone else’s and That’s just to name a few things.\nNow on the other hand I do have VERY GOOD RESPECTFUL INDIAN FRIENDS who I will never let go of our friendship because of their genuine respectful relationship although even those close friends are now pulling themselves away from their own country people and all because of the others behaviour.\nThirdly; YES, the Canadian government invites foreign students into the country with improper sources to monitor and direct a governing body to monitor and process the activities of foreign students .\n\nI love your honesty in your stories back your video clips as proof of your country men behaviour. Hey,\n\nI don’t know how popular you are but I am hoping that you (or someone else reading) can make some short shareable etiquette videos for Indian immigrants. I am constantly annoyed by the following, but because I was born in Canada, I would be cancelled for saying the things you can. I am also Indian. Here’s the list that comes to mind. I might come back and edit this because I am sure there are things I am forgetting: \n\n- coughing into your elbow instead of your hands (literally watched a guy yesterday on the bus cough into his hands then put his hands onto the support bar)\n\n- Standing to the side and letting people off the train so you can get on instead of trying to walk through people who are trying to get off \n\n- Standing up and moving to the side to let somebody off on an inside seat of the bus. I have a butt. I don’t want to be squeezing by you \n\n- Taking off their backpack while standing on the bus and putting it between their legs\n\n- Moving to the back of the bus instead of crowding by the doors\n\n- Standing in lines to get onto the bus instead of crowding\n\n- Not littering. Either put your garbage in the bin or take it with you. Stop leaving it on the beach or on hiking trails.\n\n- Learn about hiking before attempting it. We have people going up in jeans and flip flops in the evening and getting stuck on mountains or injured. Some wear running shoes but they don’t have enough traction for the trail\n\n- Shovel the sidewalk in front of your home when it snows\n\n- Stop dousing yourself with axe body spray. \n\n- Understand that Indian food makes your clothes smell. It gives off oils that get stuck in everything. Open your windows and doors when cooking to minimize this as much as possible. You won’t be able to resolve this entirely but do what you can. The skytrain now smells like Indian food even when empty. \n\n- Stop riding your bikes and scooters on the sidewalk. It’s illegal and you have a responsibility to learn the rules \n\n- Stop hiring everybody that you know. Before nepotism was all about networking, but nowadays, it seems to be about hiring Indian people that you know. I am being discriminated by employers because they think I will do the same once I am in. Diversity in teams matters. Indian immigrants don’t seem to believe in this and think all that matters is the most qualified get the job. This is how you end up building facial recognition models that don’t recognize Black people. \n\n- You work at McDonald’s. Stop blasting Indian music. The McDonald’s by my place is blasting Indian music from the back and it overtakes the restaurant music. \n\n- In a work environment, even if it is all Indians, speak English. You ostracize your fellow colleagues and customers. You are also not improving your English skills by speaking in your primary language.\n\n- Make an effort to make non-Indian friends. It’s really intimidating even as an Indian to see large packs of Indian men\n\n- Learn how to swim. Every year we have multiple drownings at a lake because Indian people are unprepared for the reality of the water. This is a basic safety skill.\n\n- Stop staring at women. Even as an Indian woman I get stared at by these guys. Just stop. \n\n- Get headphones. Playing music or having conversations on speakerphone in public places is rude and very inconsiderate of others \n\n- Stop cheating. Whether that’s cheating the system or during classes. We grow up here and environment that even though we can cheat, the culture makes it completely unethical and you just don’t. The consequences are significant. I get it that you come from a country that doesn’t have enough resources for its population, but you give the entire Indian community a bad name when you cheat, lie, and do other unethical things.\n\n- Learn about Canadian values. The Canadian charter of rights and freedoms exists. Under it cases were won supporting equality for women, LGBTQ rights, etc. this is built into our constitution and it’s so ridiculous to come across people who don’t adopt Canadian values. Why choose Canada if you want a culture of what’s back at home. \n\n- I get it that our healthcare system needs to improve but am disappointing reading advocacy for private healthcare in Indian Facebook groups in Canada. Tommy Douglas was voted as the greatest Canadian. He is the founding father of our nationalized healthcare system. For the most part, Canadian are happy that we don’t have a healthcare system like the United States, where your access is determined by your employer or your income. We don’t go bankrupt when we have a health emergency. Go back to India or go to another place where you can pay for private healthcare, but stop advocating to transition our healthcare system to a private system. While you’re at it go look up who was determined to be some of the greatest Canadians.

You give immigrants a bad name. You come to this country and instead of assimilating, you try to change it to fit your culture. Many also don't even bother to learn English at a high enough level to hold a conversation. And then Canadians think that all immigrants are like that.

Coming to student part, they come with their wish to Canada 95% only to settle, not to study...! \n\nHealth System is free and in Brampton I see lots of walkin clinics and hospitals which are trying to solve the problem...In Canada drugs quantity is less mg as compared to India tablets, docs don’t feed you strong medicine which can effect kidney or other organs, afraid in India its going opposite, to get fast recovery, doctor recommends high dosage which effects life of human and side effects come with it.\n\n\nLook at that part of Canadian old age people. People live longer here in Canada, and 30-40% you will find people living above 60 plus age. \n\nAny refugee claimant coming to Canada, gets Welfare from Govt., atleast $800 per month....he/she is not even PR, or citizen...they get child benefits as well...they get free of cost work/study permit...\n\ndoes any country provide that?? You need to do research on that part...\n\nOnly temporary residents, such as students, visitors except Refugee claimants have issues, dont forget their main purpose here in Canada is studying or visiting, giving 20hrs per week to work, its optional, I have seen arabic students and other nationalities focusing on studying more than work. People take loans for studies in India from banks, then come to Canada. Then whole family comes to Canada with mediums, sponsorships, some dont even fill their loans completely...you need to search on that....\nNo Nation is perfect, but if you want me to start comparing peaceful life between, India and other nations, Canada vs USA, Canada vs Australia...Then lets have a long conversation...! \n\nI am not hurt as a Canadian Citizen, but if students can’t find jobs, and they only want to stay in Brampton or Toronto their life, not whole nations problem....just like people wants to move to Delhi and Mumbai for life miracles...same goes here with Indian People being doing same old “Bhed Chaal”....\n\nComing to junkies life and homelessness, 80% of the people came from jail or have done shady things in their life, not like Canadian system made them like this. ( on Friday every month, they get their welfare $800 monthly, they cash out the money and still do drugs, disturb life they have) \n\nThere are things which can be done to make nation perfect, but every nation is surviving and plus some nations are fighting wars. I believe, Canada is the safest country so far, accepting refugees from other countries takes courage....

I have had many interesting experiences at the Indian Consulate. But fortunately no one screamed at me! When my late beloved Mother passed away, I took the the tried and tested method which always works in India, my good friend had a friend who knew the Vice Consul at the Embassy, I was discreetly taken into his office, where I showed them my last Indian Passport, and within 20 minutes my American Passport was stamped with an Indian Visa. In the meanwhile my contact was engaged in a friendly conversation with the Vice Council. \nThe problem with our Consulates abroad are, they are understaffed. And with the growing numbers of our diaspora in these countries, they are unable to handle the huge workload. And we are not the most polite people on the planet. Hence both sides tend to get into frequent clashes. On the other hand I have been into other nation Consulates, here they all have a system, and an online form filing program that is user friendly and easy to fill out. Everything works like clockwork. In some countries the Indian Consulates do offer emergency services even on weekends.

Being an Indian living in India I can tell you one thing that mostly people who are not 'good enough' in anything pay lumsum amount of money to move to Canada. For instance, most of the students going to Canada for study, lack foundational knowledge that should've been taught to them at school. Take a GRE-like exam by randomly selecting Indians residing in this area and u will understand what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, the current Canadian govt knows this and capitalise on this problem as they have turned the education system of Canada into a money-vending machine. Furthermore, no skill development opportunities and lack of jobs intensify these problems as these individuals are never exposed in a multicultural urban setting. That is why likeminded individuals aggregate and live in silos. Lastly, for my Indian brothers and sisters, I would like to say that yall should try to assimilate with the culture rather than live in silos. That doesn't necessarily mean yall should abandon ur religion and culture, but try to participate more in various activities associated with Canadian culture. Like Im a Hindu, but I participate in Eid & Christmas as well in India.. We should be open to new experiences, especially when moving to a foreign country, one should be able to adapt.. just like one adapts to the weather, one should also embrace the culture.. Try talking to people who are 'non-Indians', have a genuine conversation, find out the history of the place and various other key milestones in the region.. mostly engage in amicable social behaviour. Holding grudge & closing doors to new interactions would not solve anything, neither for Canadians nor for immigrants.. Live and let live.. Cheers!

Canada is not a freedom praising country, definitely. At least not anymore. My best friend is Canadian, he tries his best to defend the wonder of the country, but I can't agree anymore. Most conversations revolve around political correctness and how offensive I can be simply for saying what I think. Have been tiptoeing for long now and walking on eggshells is tiresome, now.

I was having a conversation with some people international students that said that they don’t really study here (or are studying certain things) and they’re just laughing saying that they just came here for fun… Which also plays into this whole international student scam that’s going on. But to see that they had that reaction like it was funny, it annoyed me. Obviously, I didn’t say something I just said “be careful who you say that to.” Because one day somebody might just snap. \n\nLook as much as the gov exploits us, I just wish everybody came here with a fair heart not trying to exploit people.. no matter where you’re from or your purpose being here.

What a joke! It is out of control because of him. \nObviously it is important now because the election is coming, and he is trying to do damage control.\nTelling people what they want to hear and act all concerned now is a little too late. \nHe will continue destroying Canada if there is anything left by the time the election rolls around. \nIf he gets re-elected we are finished for sure.\n\nI have never voted conservative in my life but I now will be because of this party..and ndp.\nAm I happy about it…no. \nAnything is better than this bunch, and our choices are very limited. \nThey can’t even hold a conversation and work together/ compromise, find solutions that work.\n\nThe laws and system need to be changed to prevent this from ever happening again. Living standard has raised up all around the world, so moving to West is not wow anymore. At least in Canada your kids can consider themselves Canadians. My kids will be forever Ausländer/foreigner in Germany. We face same expensive rents + way more limited career, cause Germans being very close minded. On top we had to learn German - which is very difficult language to begin with it. It is never good enough. Canadians always come to me as nice friendly people. Try have conversation with Germans - always boring and reserved. As soon they hear accent, they backed off.

Let me say it, u didn't do ur research before moving abroad, abroad life is not for lazy ppl who don't want to work on their own. Didn't u know how was the life abroad wen u have ur relatives there. And the positions u r saying are voluntary for parents, it's not a job,it's called lunch duty. You didn't try to find how life, society is there. Who asked u to hire a basement, looks like that u weren't financially ok therefore u had to hire a basement. Ppl have nice houses there. Madam, ur qualification was not suitable to get a job in canada if u r in teaching. Ur english has to be iltes level. I have relatives who are in IT and have very good salary, live in big houses. Word of caution, in regards to climate , too hot is worse than too cold.....if you end up somewhere without air-conditioning , it is going to be much worse then having access to heating in winter.....been there , so I know :) Another comment, try to separate religion from politics,. If you were born in Canada, you might not be fully aware of the difference between democratic and non-democratic societies. I had a conversation with my Uber driver last week, he was a immigrant from the middle east himself, we were both upset about people coming over here and not integrating into Canadian culture and society.
