We don’t feel like this ever but now we’re getting overrun by immigrants and the US president’s crazy trying to do tariffs well tell you Canadians are fed up now you just made us mad and you wonder why World War I in World War II were so effective with the Canadiens now you’re gonna find out how we fight back we’re gonna double tactics this time

This is a “war” the Canadians will lose. They have very little leverage in comparison to the leverage we have in the US. Drop all Canadian tariffs on US goods, allow US banks to operate in Canada, and stop fentanyl from crossing your border and then we’ll talk. Until then your going to lose big league.

American here that has extensive relationships in Canada. We don’t want this tariff war but the tariffs being implemented first by the Trump administration on behalf of US were punitive for violating USMCA and tied directly to the border defects. This was made known in advance and you repeated empty promises. Take your medicine and get well fast. Instead of doing that, you are taking an action that will beget reciprocal tariffs. Implement $30B and Trump will add $30B….add another $125B later and Trump will add another $125B. Heads up….America wants good partners and looks forward to being past this as well. I’m a 53 year old Canadian. I went to college on an athletic scholarship & lived there for 10 years after turned professional in my sport. Why, why, why - with all the problems going on in the world right now to tackle - why would you want to start a trade war with your closest trading partner & most loyal ally? Not to mention that your list of Allies is shrinking daily. This is not going to end well for either of us. \nI just arrived home from a trip to the grocery store - making sure nothing in my cart said “ made in the USA” on it due to the new tariffs that began today. \nThe irony is, many of the states where Trump won by the biggest margin, are the states that are going to get hit the hardest from Canadian retaliation tariffs ( Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana, the Dakotas - just to name a few). A lot of farmers in those states are going to be hit extremely hard with the fertilizer tax. After Canada, the next 3 largest Potash producers are Russia, Belarus & China. So , good luck \nWhen the cost of fruit & vegetables skyrocket across the US. Maybe you’ll put a little more thought into your vote 4 years from now.

Okay, so US tariffs are bad and will cause financial trouble for both Americans and Canadians. Won’t Canadian Tariffs do the same thing? Furthermore, Canada will not win a Tariff war with the US. I support Trump and I support MAGA. However a president needs to keep his word and Trump appears to have broken his word here. He asked Canada to reign in illegal immigration to the US and Canada complied. He said do something about fetanyl and Canada did. Trump said the tariff's were because Canada was not acting on these but now they have and we imposed the tariff's anyway. We look like liars and cheats. \nEven with Mexico we threatened tariffs if they didn't help with crackdown on illegal immigration, fetanyl, and drug cartels. Mexico complied and is also helping us. And we still slapped tariffs on them. We lied to Mexico too. \nAnd now we want everyone to trust us to negotiate a peaceful end to the Ukraine war with Trump threatening more sanctions on China and the EU. What the heck should they trust us and believe us after what we just did. \nWhen it comes to defining your character your willingness to keep your word overrules absolutely everything else. Our president gave his word that if these countries took certain actions there would be no tariffs. They did and now he slapped them both in the face with sanctions anyway. He broke his word. This is a dishonorable action. By the numbers Canada illegal border crossings and Fentanyl crossing volume might pale in comparison to Mexico but it’s important to note that it’s still a rising problem they’ve yet to fully understand. Look at how much of the Northern US border is unguarded compared to the southern border. The US isn't launching a trade war against anyone. We are closing up shop and are getting ready to take care of our own. There is a massive difference. We cannot be expected to continue supporting other countries economies and defense obligations, when we have 2 generations of working class citizens unable to afford a home or have children. We have entire countries we could fill with the homeless and incarcerated, and veterans who see little to no positive treatment or respect within the job market. Things are already very very bad here in the states. I don't think many Americans realize how bad the economy is. Tariffs will force US companies to reduce the outsourcing of jobs, and force other countries who are over-reliant on trade from the States, to cultivate their own self-sufficiency. As a Canadian I’m still not clear on how counter tariffs help Canadians? Won’t this just make things more expensive for us? Shouldn’t we just realign our allies for imports/exports? Can someone help me out here? Don’t tell me it’s just because we need to respond in kind so not to be ‘bullied’. You’ll need to do better than that. Seems like only governments win in tariff wars - not their citizens.

Canada is not America's ally or friend. Ally/friend suggests equal partner. Canada is America's junior partner, a sidekick at the best. Canada blindly signed up for whatever war America was in, regardless of how ridiculous the war was, such as the 2003 invasion of Iraq. There is a simple solution to the trade war: join US as the 51st state and all tariffs will be gone. This is what Trump wants and he is serious.

I guess USA citizens and Trudeau simply aren't getting it, Trump wants these tariffs because he WANTS to tax the heck out of the ordinary US citizen in order to pay for his tax cuts for his Billionaire friends.....Canada could have COMPLETELY stopped Fentanyl trafficking and Trump STILL would have invoked tariffs.....just like no matter what Zelenskyy could do, he was determined to make an EXCUSE to stop supporting Ukraine's war efforts.......in addition, if you didn't know better, it appears that Trump wants to team up with Russia......??????

I served alongside Canadian military when I served in the US military. They were very tough, honorable, and outstanding professionals. I have friends and family from Canada, and they love America. This trade war is so sad and so devastating for so many Americans and Canadians. These tariffs are so stupid, it's beyond reason. Trump is treating America's best friends and allies like enemies! This is not only dishonorable behavior by a US president, it is despicable!

This is about more than the fentanyl. This is about Canada not pulling their own weight when it comes to defensive spending, this is about getting them to allow Us manufacturered cars into their markets, this is about convincing Canadian companies to build factories in the US… etc Trumps tariffs are creating hundreds of billions, soon to be trillions of dollars worth of investments into our market. We hold the largest market in the world. We hold the power here, not Canada. And bitching about relations with our allies isn’t going to sway conservative voters come the next election. When we win this “trade war” something tells me CNN will whine about how we won it instead of giving credit to the current administration for doing better by our citizens.
