1 year, 6 months ago @LelaBria ??? at the Mais no , tabernac! ?? and then ur reaction lolol. Alot of Québécois French swear words I think are sort of religion/blashpemy related ?\n\nThat hyper capitalistic like. Everything is a business that has no business being a business Lolol. Like prisions. Healthcare. Frikkin everything over prioritizes capitalistic values. And Americans seems to be happy and supportive of that so idk lol? are you aware that sounds insane from a country that values social programs and what not lol 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 6 months ago @LelaBria Even with the guns like. We have guns here. We just don’t think it’s better to have barely any regulation control or laws about attaining them owning them and what is appropriate use of them versus not. To watch Americans defend their right to bear arms as a reason to entirely ignore the amount of gun violence , combined with insane laws that literally enable or encourage said violence , from people who are not in anyway necessarily trained to asses or handle as safely as possible , urgent situations. To have any children or schools shot up not immediately cause a national need to solve the problem but jsut have it ongoing and not much change to address the issues of innexsssary gun violence to not just Canadians but a lot of the world , looks entirely insane and white honestly idiotic lol I’m just being real. \n\nTo spend the amount yall do on military to feel safe , but have such unsafe conditions in the general public is crazy to a lot of us. Outside America. Yall are a danger to yourselves and okay with that? Lol same thing with food and nutirion and fda things that are acceptable and legal but banned everywhere else ?like. You guys do realize ur safety is not only about who owns the most guns you will be less safe if ur health is poor, bec of insane things being legal to be sold and eaten , healthcare is not easily accessible , and the gun violence of ur own is always a possibility like. How does that feel safe ? \n\nI have a friend who went to school on scholarship and now works married and lives there and she hates it and feels terrified all the time. Her own husband is American and owns a gun but she hates it hates guns now. And is exhausted and has anxiety issues as a result of a lot of the culturally and legally normal gun ownership and attitudes there. A lot of Canadians would feel the exact same way. And to WANT your country to be run and managed that way screaming it at the top of ur lungs is. Bonkers bat shit crazy to many of the rest of us. Ur not the only country where it’s legal to own guns and have them, but yet we’re not hearing about school\nShootings as a problem that just never gets solved and everyone who lives there sort of shrugs about ? lol it’s. Odd. To. Us. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 6 months ago @LelaBria Idk i think you need to realize that we also have our bias in addition to you having yours. Meaning, to most of us , excepting the most left leaning socially progressive pockets and contexts , which even then wouldn’t be viewed that way to us just acceptable lol ?\n\nOur baseline/political middle in Canada is A LOT more left leaning than the baseline normal/political middle in the states. So while people tend to equate your democrats to our liberals or our NDP , and equate your republicans to our conservatives. It’s just not accurate. If you throw our span of parties and American span of parties on the SAME spectrum /polarity line. You might be surprised to realize how shifted left our systems range politically is from the American one. \n\nThis hugely impacts the average normal expectation , what we clutch our pearls at hearing coming out of the mouths of the general public , and our range of what we expect to not hear or see ranted about unless they’re to our view , extremely right leaning politically /social values. \n\nFor us this means that actually genuinely , a lot of America does get experiences by us as bat shit crazy racist homophobic immigrant intolerant culturally and religiously ignorant , and somewhat backwards in larger or smaller amounts ? I know that’s not fun to hear but. Being the most diverse country based so much on immigration means. What is normal and known /familiar and normal so we aren’t ignorant to , is completely different. \n\nFor us we have our pockets usually in more rural less populated areas further away from larger cities where there is more diversity but that’s the same often in many countries that you will find some of the louder racist homophobic intolerant voices typically in places that truly are unfamiliar and ignorant to the experience of growing up with and around much of any diversity of varying kinds. So it’s not to say we don’t have racism and intolerance of course like anywhere we do. It’s just contained and the range and frequency and intensity is MUCH different. We distinguish nuances of diff cultures and religions more easily and in larger numbers we’re more familiar with diff ways of life , language , food, dress , holidays , values and used to a much less segregated way of existing even when we are differnt from each other as the NORM. My parents were both born in the states and my older brother was born there but they moved up here when he was a baby. So nearly all my extended family lives down there and I’m a duelly. And my experiences discussing things with my cousins or visiting absolutely could be described as culture shock at times. The insane things that came out of my own cousins mouths when they hear our friends or partners of various cultures , our not understanding how big a deal and incredibly insulting apparently it is to have assumed someone American was lgbt lol the list goes on. Like I don’t think our most intolerant Pockets can hold a flame to even ur closet to middle a bit intolerant places and contexts in America. Quite honestly. \n\nI think the absolute undying favourable passionate upholding and support of nationalistic, capitalist, hyper individualistic mentality about society as a whole (from my Canadian born and bred perspective lol) makes the differences even more glaring blaring and hard to swallow for us lol. I think more Canadians would feel exactly how that comment stated , that you felt was not fair for us to experience America as. I think the truth is a lot of Canadians are being too polite to let you know that’s exactly how a lot of America comes off to a lot of Canada ? 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 6 months ago @thedramainew Both countries need to be humbled and hushed. If not for Mexico's contrubution to the US they'd be nothing and without India contributing to Canada they'd be nothing.Stole land from the indigenous brown people in both areas yet its because of brown people working and contributing that is keeping North America from being the bottom bitch of China and their Russian pals ?.All of this nation pride BS is for the birds. When people think of coming to either the US or Canada is because of the brown people working their asses off nothing more nothing less. From the mouth of an unbiased Black man (not claiming a country period) 0 zJycj8c73sQ

1 year, 6 months ago @Roshiyu Here's my logic-\n\nWorst case scenario in Canada: conservatives get control of the government.\n\nThe Cons in Canada are roughly equal to the Dems in the USA.\n\nWhich is the best case scenario in the USA, compared to MAGA.\n\nSo no. Hell frozen over, no. 1 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 6 months ago @LelaBria In regards to the giving birth. Look into the difference in maternity/paternity leave. That alone would stop me ? if I wanted more kids. Unreal. 1 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @Me-lb8nd Mu husband and I moved TO Canada in 1967. Have absolutely never had any regrets. 15 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @johnjgabner-qy6sh I moved to Canada upon retirement at age 60. Best decision! I’ve had good experiences with the Ontario and Nova Scotia healthcare. As I didn’t have emergencies, I didn’t wait more than a month for specialists. Canadians don’t like travelling to get appointments sooner which is common in the US. \nMany here think emergency room wait times in the States is much shorter, but I’ve accompanied friends in New York State for treatment only to wait over eight hours. \nHere in Niagara Falls, Canada my ex had a kidney stone causing great pain. The wait time to get morphine and treatment was about 45 min. \nI got a colonoscopy in four days here. In the US I waited three months. \nNo cost or copayments, and there are no in-network requirements that I know of. \nI would not live in the US again. Visiting is just fine! 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @geofftestpilot9076 Americans HOW MUCH CHEAPER would your health insurance cost be, if gigantic corps weren't making huge profits off of it?? Why would they ever give that $$ up? 1 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @ruabtrew Reddit may not be a full representation of Canada either. 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @TheFarmerfitz Albertan here. 53 and up till now I'm relatively healthy and have had no need for extra health insurance. Until recently, then boom, I now have ms. The onset of it was sudden and was kind of similar to a stroke, but was found out that it's multiple sclerosis. Our Provincial health care covered the hospital stay and any meds received while in Hospital. Out of hospital, we have to pay for our prescription meds. Which, I now have to be treated with a drug that is Infused through IVand it's not covered. $26000.00 per year, so I promptly applied for Blue Cross(like a health insurance)which will help. 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @elizabethmerritt8960 I didn’t see many comments on the education system. \n\nThe quality of the US education in elementary, middle and high school is far less than in Canada. Post secondary has young people getting out of school with exorbitant debt.\n\nIt just another reason not to move to the US. 1 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 6 months ago @EugeneThomasBurden Good Job! A most interesting read every day: You are such a great unbiased and open minded journalist!❤ 1 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 6 months ago @MrBrody420 Both my kids were c section. If I was in the states it would've cost me about 140,000 dollars. I paid literally nothing. But Yanks think socialism is communism lmaooooo. 0 zJycj8c73sQ

1 year, 6 months ago @KpopBopping as a Canadian I know 0 people that have a gun. Unless you count a fake gun above a fire place in the basement ps it looks fake its in a shape of a gun made out f wood. thank like a Minecraft sword 1 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 6 months ago @devorahfriedman7502 Gun shot injuries are the first, ie most common, cause of death for children in the US. It seems that it is a huge problem if that is considered Normal and acceptable. Very sad indeed. 1 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 6 months ago @LanaTodd-pn1yg gun violence,,people can have carry permits,,that is just to scary for me,, 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 6 months ago @crystalcoughlin7283 In Canada it would have been free of cost. What they did teach me at the alcohol rehab center worked and I had quit drinking in 1990. But after in the early 2000's I started to drink again and after getting blood poison in 2003 I finally gave it up for good and now I have been sober for 21 years. Best thing I ever did for myself.❤ ❤ ❤ 4 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @crystalcoughlin7283 I lived in New Hampshire in the Mountains and in Vermont for 8 months for Medical reasons. When I got back to Ottawa Ontario Canada they sent me a Health Care bill that was quite high but my Social Assistance Worker paid Thousands of dollars for my use of your Medical Services otherwise I would have had to pay 30,000 dollars that I couldn't afford. Your cigarettes were cheap as I smoked Marlboro smokes which reminded me of cigars ? in the form of cigarettes. 2 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @naMnivraM I dont think there are enogh doctors ir hospitals to cover everyone in the US. I dont think the system could handle it if anyone coild go. They woild need more hospitals and staff to cover all the people that would go if it's free. Sadly many would put off going to save money until its too late. That is the worst aspect if a co pay 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @naMnivraM My last ER visit was quick. I was the only one there. If it is busy, If you show up with a heart attack theyll take you right away ahead of the guy with a sore throat. Its worth it for leaving without a bill. 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @naMnivraM My mother in law has cancer treatment. They offer to pick you up amd drive you there and back... For free. Treatment? Free. If u have cancer you have enough to worry about. I get insurance everytime i go to the US and pray to a god i dont believe in, that I don't get hurt. Lol 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @naMnivraM Even a doctor's visit WITH insurance you guys pay a deductible? What? Lol. That's insane. We go to the doctor? Free. Go to the ER? Free. Break your arm , or have a heart attack? Free. It's so odd to me for healthcare to be big business. Its a right here. Not a privilege 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 6 months ago @CanadianGirl84 No offense but I definitely would never move to the States. I'm good here. 1 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @jayou812a Canadian health care is more expensive than U.S health care we pay for it just the same except the bill is in a different place.\nIf you don't mind waiting till you die to get anything done,I have waited 3 and a half years for sinus surgery and the health care has been paid for through taxes from the start of my life.\nThe waiting is so bad I looked up the U.S what it would cost and I wouldn't be Abe to afford it because our taxes are way too high 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @tyfrank3427 I love Americans. Although that's a general statement and just like Canada, there are jerks there just like here, for the most part I get along great with them. There are pros and cons to living in Canada and the U.S., For the most part, I believe Canada is the superior country. We have a superior healthcare system, superior banking system, superior snacks, and superior safety. However, Trudeau is killing that. He's destroyed our country to the point that one more term, and it may well be expedient to move to the USA. He's destroying our economy, our values, our culture. We have the resources to top the USA in every way, but we've never had leadership to make that happen. The U.S. has a superior economy, retail, and military. Although some may argue that the USA has superior freedoms, I'm not sure I agree with that. I know I don't feel freer when I travel there. I will definitely travel to the U.S. again. I have lots of friends there who I love and would love to see. However, it will take more Trudeau for me to want to move there. Since it looks like he's on the way out, I better just stay put at least for now. 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @montrose699 My youngest son would not be alive today if he was born in the states. rare heart condition had multiple heart surgeries and spent 6 months in ICU at Children's hospital. My wife and I although working would have not had health care insurance. we did not have to pay a cent. Now as a family who makes a very good living 180k a year I am happy to pay high taxes to support families who are going through the same things 2 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @montrose699 I think the US and Canada are both great countries struggling with the same things -maybe if we could take the best of the two and put them together. 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @timbo1a I’m a Canadian, born and raised. Considered it self when I was young to join the USAF. Wish I did. Lots of Canadians down there. Shatner for one, and there’s many more famous Canadians down there. Some of the warmest and friendliest people I’ve met have been from the states. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @MericaKennedy-p8g I had to use the health care in US while there on business. It costs a lot but the care was 2nd to none. 0 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @Rockmobile1 The level of gun violence in the US is absolutely terrifying! Canada has much less gun violence and much better gun control laws.\nDespite that however, gun violence here is on the rise, people are able to get illegal firearms here, and just where do you suppose the vast majority of those illegal firearms come from? ? 1 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @Rockmobile1 Canada has its share of white trash, hillbilly rednecks, but the US clearly seems to have cornered that market. ? 1 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @pyttv9841 If I had millions of dollars. If I could pick an isolated location with lots of trees, rivers and space. If I could escape from winter for 11 3/4 months of the year. If I could put up a 20 foot fence with sentry points and gun turrets (because you can do that in the states), state of the art security and off the grid. If I could guarantee the government would not interfere with my life. If I could get all I needed delivered. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @crisp6195 hell NO!! 1 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @ka1133 If shootings at school is not on your radar or a topic of conversation, then I suggest that you’re extremely naïve and have your head buried in the ground, sir. You’ve had so many mass shootings in the United States over the past 10 years where children have been murdered in schools. They have been cities and towns that are small, isolated communities the one recently in Uvalde, Texas. Is a good prime example. Are you not even aware what is going on in your own country. I think you better concentrate little less on what’s going on in Canada and maybe learn about your own country. Your country is a total mess maybe not in your tiny little community where you live. Have you ever travelled outside of your own county? Based on the comments that you have made, I rather doubt it. 1 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @lisaghking There have been 58 school shootings in the United States in 2024. 58. And nothing has been done about it. I know you say you live in a small town, but Sandy Hook was a small town; Columbine was a small town. It can happen anywhere where there’s guns. ? 1 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @bruce8321 I have travelled most of America and like them a lot. There are some things which stun me however for such a wealthy and advanced country. 1. It seems many care more about the unborn then the already born. Some want to ban abortion but don't dare try to change gun laws that allow thousands to die in mass shootings. Insane to most of the world. The electoral system instead of just the popular vote. Having a for profit system so big pharma, doctors and insurance companies get rich instead of paying through the tax system. 1 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @DarleneWaselenchuk-n2v When I was younger my father wanted to move to the US. My mother said absolutely not! I am so grateful we stayed in Canada. The US is just nuts! 1 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @andree-annehandfield9488 quebec health care system paid for a least invasive radiotherapy in philadelphia for 3 months because it gave my 5 years old nephew a better chance at a normal life had he survived. The parents even receive money to pay for an appartement during treatments because hotels are just too dangerous for these kids. Obviously one of the parent have to leave work to be with the kid so I really don't understand how americans make it! If you leave your job to be with your kid during his treatment don't you loose your insurance for not being employed? Are american parents sending their 5 years old alone for his chemo? it makes no sense!!! 1 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 7 months ago @MISSY4EVR I would move there but the thought of everyone having guns does scare me. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @sandracameron2291 I have to say my son and daughter in law lived in a community just out of Houston. they loved it .They had veery good health insurance through my sons employer. their baby girl was born in Houston and they were very happy there. But they moved home when their girl was ready to go to school because of the school shootings. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @iem123 I think the vast majority of those Reddit posts and are overrating the difference. \n\nNow, admittedly, I am Canadian and have lived here my whole life. I’ve only been to the states a handful of times and not recently (last time was like 5 years ago). But nonetheless, I think Canada and America are about as similar of countries as you can get. I think the bigger difference is going to be the different regions of each country. Like, Seattle is going to be more like Vancouver than Miami. Also, you mentioned you live in a small town/city, I imagine if you moved to rural Canada you’d notice little difference. Just my $0.02 though 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @eileenalbanese5362 Not a chance of moving there, although the people I’ve met were lovely , albeit a bit loud and clueless about Canada. lol 0 O0gJtVar7_E
1 year, 7 months ago @bulbouskiwicat9608 I’ve visited the states on like week long vacations, the first thing I noticed is how bad, artificial, and not fresh the food tastes, and I was in Washington and Oregon which has a huge farming population so I assumed the food would at least taste fresh. And I’m talking about basic ingredients like veggies and fruit, not processed food even though that also doesn’t taste as good 3 zJycj8c73sQ
1 year, 8 months ago @lucdery6836 To be honest, we do pay for health-care. Through income tax. But income tax is proportionnal to the income of each individual. A Canadian who earns nothing or has a very low income pays no income tax at all and yet, they enjoy care absolutely free, as well as a high income Canadian. Do private insurance companies in the US charge less for poor people? A couple hundreds could be not big a deal for someone earning 100k a year, but at 30k, it’s a whole lot of money. 2 O0gJtVar7_E
