The most expensive area in Canada.. I currently live here for the last few years. Nobody can say it's better. \nI'm not bias because I'm broke.. or lack of the normal things people are concerned with.. \nOur government is horrible.. the American government is bad.. absolutely.. but Canada is a dictatorship in the making.. 2 years, 11 months ago @hoiming If you are in certain career fields say IT or Finance, or a lot of fields actually there are just more opportunities for you to make a higher earning in the US. And if you make enough money, a lot of nicer things (education, products, services) are available to you. This would make the trade off of health insurance, guns, politics safety tolerable. For the average Canadian there's probably not much incentive. And all the nice places in the US can be visited as a tourist since we're so close (most of us). 1 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @pmjohnston7987 Your suggestion that potential permanent Snow Birds just need to do their homework to select a community suited to their personal philosophy is a good one, as long as the Cdn heading south has the most marketable skills on the planet. In the current economic climate, you look for work, then relocate when you find a job that ticks enough boxes. If you are the breadwinners for a young family there are a LOT of boxes to consider. Even if you are an actual Snow Bird (retiree) you often come home when you health starts to decline. The US has lots of touristy things I might enjoy visiting, but I watch enough US news to know that most of what I do know comes from movies & TV, which has nothing to do with real life. 4 O0gJtVar7_E

But an equal tragedy is that the US Congress and senate cannot work together to pass common sense laws to stop it. Somehow they are able to limit women’s rights, but can’t change the insane gun laws. That to me is really sad because it has become so common place in America that most Americans don't even find it shocking anymore. 2 years, 11 months ago @marlenehepner8759 I would consider living in the USA but I would lose many of my Canadian veterans benefits and services that I currently receive. My grandparents are from North Dakota. I could use that to get citizenship through derivation… but then there would be the requirement to file income taxes in both countries. Any tax free benefits I get as a Canadian vet, would loose their tax free status and become taxable if I claimed my citizenship… so I have decided not too. If these issues were not in play, I would consider moving to northern Minnesota or Montana or Vermont. Somewhere close to the Canadian border, close to family but in a better climate zone. I like growing my own food and a longer growing season with nicer forests would be awesome. The climate in Manitoba is not the greatest for growing a variety of trees… and the trees do not get very big. I love Orlando and spend about 6 weeks a year there… but I could not see myself living there full time. Sometimes I will drive the 3600 km south to Orlando and I get a really good view of the wealth disparity in the USA… So that alone, I am happier in Canada… knowing that there is a better safety net for us should a situation in life happen that would leave you broke and homeless in the USA 1 O0gJtVar7_E

2 years, 11 months ago @Lexi-1234 I'm a surgeon in Canada, and even though there are more jobs and I could make potentially twice as much in the usa I would never move there. I would never be able to refuse someone surgery or bankrupt them because they had no insurance. I also don't like the 'cover your ass' style of medicine that most doctors in the USA have to practice because of how often lawsuits happen. 144 O0gJtVar7_E

It was awful and to say it was a culture shock is an understatement. I moved from Victoria BC to Fort Lauderdale Florida. I was yelled at for wearing a mask in the grocery stores, I was called a pedophile and a groomer for being gay, I was told repeatedly that Canada is a communist, socialist evil woke empire. One of Canadian’s less admirable qualities is that we can be a little smug when comparing ourselves to the US.\n\nTo cheer Tyler up there are some things I prefer about the states. Where I live in Vancouver we’re quite cliquish and don’t talk to strangers, but when I’m in the states I can make a new best friend in a subway ride.\n\nAmericans are also extremely charitable. I know 100% Canada is not as good as the states. \nAs a Canadian I can say Canada is not what people think it is... they think it's so much better here when they sy that because it's safer.. not better..not remotely.. we are so restricted here to do anything.. own land. .. grate now build something on it. 2 years, 11 months ago @katem2411 Love your videos, and I think you may be desensitized to a lot more than just the gun violence.\nThe US seems to be playing boil the frog with their people, and unfortunately, it appears to be working.\nI don't even like to visit the US. I can not imagine the circumstances that would have to be in play to get me to move there. I'd probably choose it over Russia, but it is far from the top or even the middle of my list. The guns, random violence, and the insane political/religious extremism that are the US norm are off-putting. \nMost of the Americans I've met have been lovely people, but their country is very nearly a no-go zone, and that saddens me. 5 O0gJtVar7_E

My daughter has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and all her treatments are free, some of the meds are free and others are signifantly reduced in price. I think America will get universal medical coverage at some point but those gun laws are nuts!!! Just two of the major reasons why I, along with most Canadians, really are anxious about visiting, nevermind moving, to the US. Read the news - small towns & rural areas also suffer mass shootings in schools AND churches or places of worship. 2 years, 11 months ago @CraigHallikainen The reason why school shootings are so shocking to Canadians is because in 2021 the USA had something like 93 school shootings and in Canada we've had 11 in the history of Canada as a country(that includes day cares primary school and highschool). Even pre-9/11 half the houses in the little towns along 63 had Old Glory on the porch or on a pole in the yard. I used to admire that. Now it would smack of neofascism. My family is going to Flordia soon and we are really looking forward to it, even though we disagree with the governor and don't really want to support the state that supports him. \n\nMove there, HELL NO. Is Canada's politics perfect, no, but I honestly do feel like we have more say in our government and more choice.\n\n Over the last few the loss of woman's rights in the US is horrifying. 2 years, 11 months ago @musicalnomad8 I’m a duel citizen but I was born and raised in Canada and I would say I have more of a Canadian mindset. There are many things that I like about the States even though I wouldn’t move there. A lot of Canadians like to go shopping and for vacation. I hope to one day explore the North West coast of the States. I know there is a lot of awesome nature. This year however I plan on exploring more of Canada as I haven’t seen as much of my own home. \n\nTyler, I hope you will be able to come and visit Canada. 2 years, 11 months ago @Lakeshore14 No question there are many things thatAmericans can enjoy that are not available for Canadians. For one, the variety of consumer goods is more plentiful due to the size of your population. Our population is one tenth of the U.S. so the consumer market is much smaller. Having lived in the US for a dozen years, I missed so many things about Canada. Now living back here I appreciate our universal health care and the fact that everyone isn’t walking around with a weapon. Those were the two things that really bothered me about the US. I had a great job and worked with great people and we continue to be friends. And now the political climate in the US is teetering on absolute chaos. ???? 3 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @ASkepticsPerspective Sorry Tyler, but given the current social and political environment in the USA I do not want to visit the country and definitely never move there.\n\nThe challenge for me is the realization that Canada was built on community, while I see many (too many) Americans fiercely independent and not seemingly caring about anyone but themselves. \n\nCanada IS NOT PERFECT. We have gang violence, drug issues, racism, homelessness, poverty, inefficient political and bureaucratic system, but in general I feel that people will be more polite and helpful to each other than in the US. 1 O0gJtVar7_E
