5 years, 10 months ago @Its-Kat_ The key point is history, not current day racism and it's not bad now like it is today. 0 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 10 months ago @defy2598 It's only a problem now why is that 0 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 10 months ago @houdarar6916 I don’t think anybody of non colour or visible minority would ever understand how racism is prevalent. Which I do understand. In my opinion Canada is a much more accepting than many other western countries and systemic racism is less prevalent. As a Muslim man I feel pretty lucky but my mom has many stories of suspected race based descions by people in power whether be an officer, judge or store clerk. I am sure not all of them were, however definitely some were. 3 7GmX5stT9rU

5 years, 10 months ago @mattyaok I purpose a Commission of Inquiry be created to investigate this issue and present the findings to the people of Canada. It would help identify where reform is needed and help individuals understand this topic. I take this issue seriously. 4 7GmX5stT9rU

5 years, 10 months ago @MsBeautifulRed If you want to see how deeply in denial Canadians are about systemic racism, note there are 1000 more dislikes on this video than likes. Says it all. 1 7GmX5stT9rU

5 years, 11 months ago @BULLOCK1973 I can't take this.. I haven't heard any one at my work which is very multicultural ever say they face racism. As far as the world and I am concerned Canadians are welcoming and poilte 2 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @vic902 Canada is full of racism and that’s a fact. There is not much of the difference with the States either. Only difference is that Canada’s racism comes in the form institutional and systemic racism. The states have a way bigger platform than Canada so their situations regarding racism will be covered more than Canada’s and also Canada hides behind the “it’s such a diverse country” statement to diverge from the issue of racism. Ask yourself this- Which country do you see a wider diverse representation of, concerning the people in power? In Toronto we just had our first black police chief(which was a big thing here) a few years back while in the States they’ve been having people of colour and many minorities in power. Representation of different ethnic backgrounds is an issue here but nevertheless the states still have a long way to go with racism. I love Canada so much but there is absolutely racism that this country will not bother to even acknowledge 17 7GmX5stT9rU

5 years, 11 months ago @star2705 This was a very good primer, but the way that the text would appear on the screen out of order made the overlays functionally worse than useless as subtitles X(\nit was really visually distracting. 0 7GmX5stT9rU

5 years, 11 months ago @thomassiemangiok2479 When our indigenous students can study using their own language, it’ll be fairer.\n\nIn our region, students at grade 2 start learning in French or in English, these two languages have zero link to our language. I imagine French Quebecois shouting against their kids having to learn in Inuttitut in any school of our province from grade 2 all the way forward.\n\nThis system in place tells me that we matter less.\n\nI’m happy that CBC is encouraging discussions, this is how we’re able to collectively focus on solutions. 9 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @OHNO-k9l Canada: Systemic Racism is problem within the country\n\nUSA: Take a load of this guy... ? 4 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @RoberttAvro And btw CBC, talking about intolerance and hate, will you be doing a major CBC investigation into the many arson fires at Christian churches of late? There is clear hatred against a religious group going on with the latest arson at the famous Nantes cathedral in France. Will the CBC be doing stories about the racial hate of the perps when they are caught? Even if the perps are not white? Somehow I doubt it. Although it's a daily topic in the CBC, their anti racism coverage only extends to certain select groups. They don't actually demonstrate a true belief in equality. 0 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @SurgeCess I am Latino living in Toronto and i have experienced racism from some Asian and black folks (i am quarter black) but I still strive to make positive experiences with people everyday. Just here to say, racism is not just white supremacists, if you are going to fight racism, please fight all of it, not just one sect. 407 7GmX5stT9rU

5 years, 11 months ago @BayBye2011 we are not the USA and we do not have their problems so we can not compare Canada to how the USA treats its citizens...we are all born equal and unfortunately there is some racism on all sides and not just white.... 0 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @NSD20xx There may not be systemic racism in quebec, but there most certainly is systemic discrimination. 2 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @DrErnst I mean racism is probably a big problem in canada..\n'But as a whole I think on the defund the police I think this is a one sided piece that didnt portray any defense of the police only criticism, in good journalism you need to let someone defend themselves and bring their perspective, this type of journalism is what you get if you have a ideologically possessed 23 year old fresh out of left wing college.. Perhaps learn real journalism try to portray facts not oppinions formost.. Journalism on a news outlet like this isn't supposed to be activicism but objectively portraying facts, and also doing interviews with people with different perspective.. Like perhaps interview Jordan Peterson and let him say stuff about group-politics actually agitating people and causing more conflict and more harm than healing.. 0 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @gpav1 This is dumb..., 0 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @Justaguyyoutubin If we want to have equality lets just rip this off like a bandaid. Equality - no one gets any special treatment based on their race or gender. No special funds locked behind race. No special programs locked behind race or gender. No more pity partys - just equality. Take full responsibility and accountability for your own success or failure and earn your keep. Born to a wealthy family? Lucky. Born to a poor family? Unlucky. Either way you have more class mobility in a capitalistic western society than anywhere else in the world. Work hard and you can have an entirely different lifestyle in 3-4 years. 1 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @Sam-hx5lw Notice how half the video was about Quebec officials.\n\nSystemic racism is very much so alive and well here. It's god-awful. 12 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @braveheart816 Guys .. Canada is the most beautiful, tolerant, multi-cultural country in the entire world ... you will only realize this if you get a chance to travel or live outside Canada ... It is far worse outside ... We must work together to make Canada stronger. 7 7GmX5stT9rU

5 years, 11 months ago @caseyhickey5291 This country is being ripped apart, it’s so sad to watch. No one wants to come to the table and talk ,equal rights for every one, why is that so hard to come by in this country? 2 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @Atem_S. It exist and saw it! Nowhere near the level of the USA but it exist! And on the news lately, you see it! 5 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @brett8460 All the dislikes on this video is proving the video's point. All the dislikes are from people who deny systemic racism is real. 3 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @theromulanwarhawk To paraphrase: There's a reason why you don't militarize the police. The military fights the enemies of the State; the police (allegedly) serves and protects the people. When the police becomes both, the Enemies of the State tend to be the people. 6 7GmX5stT9rU

5 years, 11 months ago @raoucherania2530 What's does ŔCMP means ? 0 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @maplesyrupphilosopher6886 It seems that people conflate individual acts and experiences of racism with systemic racism. If the police stop and question me because I match a description - that's not racism, that's just inconvenient. Now if the officer said - hey according to city by-law blah blah blah, you're under arrest for having blue eyes *that* is systemic. There is a written on the books law treats me different from others. Systemic racism and flawed personal bias are not the same thing. The former does not exist in its literal form and (i'm very sorry kids) the latter will never go away completely. 2 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @PunkFuckUp systemic racism is definitely a thing in the US, but Canada really? have you even been to Toronto? there aren't even enough white people to perpetrate such a system... 1 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @daemonspectre9972 Lol. They leave comments on so that they can use the ones from the actual racists to validate themselves. 3 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @danielb2940 I’ve lived on both sides of the border (New York and Ottawa/Gatineau). I am white. And I’ve been pulled over on both sides wile I was driving and wile a black person was driving. I’ve seen scary difference between the interactions with the police. Though the US cops are a little more harsh to the black people the Canadians ones weren’t much better. If you deny that is happening in Canada your wrong. If you deny it’s happening in the US your wrong. It happens no matter what side of that imaginary line on. Be the change you wanna see. If your white use your privilege to promote change. And for everyone, go to protest (safety there is still a pandemic going on), sign petitions, vote and get involved with government. Both sides of the border have the chance to make things right, act now! 2 7GmX5stT9rU

5 years, 11 months ago @matthewnahanee4676 It's worrying to see all the oblivious comments, in denial of systematic racism. 2 7GmX5stT9rU
5 years, 11 months ago @grantdm There is lot of emotion in this piece, but not very much context or fact. Indigenous people suffer from addictions and mental illness more than the rest of Canada due -inter generational trauma, and resulting loss of dignity. While racism exists today, even if we were to eradicate entirely, indigenous people would still need help due to the damage done in the past. The solution is not fomenting more bitterness and resentment. This is not an easy fix and indigenous people need to be part of it. We need to find a solution where they can rediscover their identity, foster healthy norms within their own nation, while also being part of this nation. Look up Durkheim. Defunding the police is an utterly idiotic idea. Police need more training, and hence more funding, to help them do a better job. 3 7GmX5stT9rU
