The only reason birthright citizenship was enacted was to deal with the issue of newly freed black slaves after the civil war, because technically they were not citizens before the civil war. It was an attempt to create a legal mechanism for these freed slaves to be made into US citizens, it was never meant to be used to be used as a loophole circumvent our immigration laws. |

Our system has been abused for too long. My mom worked as a nurse's aide in a hospital for many years. This was in south Texas. I remember her telling me that Mexicans (with money) would come to have their babies here and then go back to Mexico. When the children were grown they could come and live here easily. I remember it pissed.me off. It didnt matter if they paid for the delivery. They were still cheating our system. I'm all for denying these people citizenship. We should follow Germany's example. |
