2 years, 11 months ago @i_am2685 I wouldn't mind VISITING, but moving? No. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @etiennechiasson My wife and I have visited the US a few times. The people we met were extremely nice and 'normal' every day Joe Americans, like 'normal' every day Joe Canadians. However, I would never move to the US. The main reason, other than healthcare and polarised politics: the gun culture. That is not normal... 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @loganking873 My advice for anyone who is asked this question it secretly means are you ready to die 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @GoWestYoungMan A sizeable number of Canadians do move to the US. The climate is better and in some fields the pay is better in the US than Canada. In most other ways, Canada is better; often by a considerable margin. The US has a lot to offer but no, I wouldn't move to the US; even if they doubled my salary. I'm content to just visit. I do go to the US more than any other country though. I've been there 7 times. 0 O0gJtVar7_E

2 years, 11 months ago @paulpupo8799 As a Canadian he’ll no I would never move to the USA crazy politics god help us all of any of those crazies are elected in the next election you’re country will become a fascist country no decent health care I wish Americans would stop saying that the health care system is restricted and we can’t go to certain doctors and we let the elderly die bullshit yes our health care system isn’t perfect but we don’t pay a penny to see a doctor and if we have any surgeries or long stays in the hospital does not send us a bill for anything gun violence in the states is very crazy and sadly since that evil despicable trump brought out visible racism Canada is not perfect but I’m a proud Canadian I won’t even go to the states on vacation way to many crazies to all the decent Americans this does not reflect on you 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @loganking873 Why would I ever want to move to the grim reaper’s paradise that place has death written all over it 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @ginobarrone5670 Hi Tyler I have been splitting my time between Florida and Vancouver for the last 25 yrs , my wife is American and my daughter went to high school and college in the US. The years prior to 2016 the Floridians were very warm and welcoming every year I returned for the 6 mo winter season. After the 2016 election things changed, I became one of those people (an unwanted foreigner). I still have my place in Florida but it’s time to sell and find a place that is more welcoming. I read an article a couple of yrs ago that Canadians pay approximately $500 m a year in property taxes to the State of Florida and contribute millions more to the Florida economy… as I see it now the division in the US is getting to be to much. We have our problems in Canada but we let people live their life their way and I live my life the way I choose and accept people just the way they are. 77 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @dougtrudel3614 We have access to firearms in canada as well, but a very regulated background check and any sign of problems (misuse, violence, threats mental health problems that indicates self harm or harm of others) results in loss of the right to own. We have had a large uptake in mass shootings since 2000, but the total number in canadian history still sits around 70. The us has had about 5 times in the first six months of 2023 than all of canadian history. 1 O0gJtVar7_E

2 years, 11 months ago @kevinsmith7592 News escalates stuff, if all you know of a place is from the media, it's going to screw your perspective: you've got to know the people, and have a sound background of the places first.\n\nI was once offered a cushy job, and what they called 4h coverage, but was too scared to make the move, even though it was just across the boarder in Syracuse.\n\nI think if it was a swell place, with lots of opportunity, and overflowing with cash, you'd be a fool not to.\n\nGreat people, great times, why not?\n\nDuo-citizenship, best of both worlds. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @loganking873 If I had to choose between dying in a fire and moving to the states as someone who actually almost has died in a fire I think I’ll stick with what I know how to do besides it’s not as bad as you think dying in a fire that is not the states that place is a hellacious nightmare 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @pirbird14 According to Education Week, there have been 23 school shootings in the US this year, almost one per week. According to CNN, there have been more than 350 mass shooting so far (July 16, 2023). If I were of child bearing age, i would not consider moving to any state with severe reproductive health restrictions. \nI am more concerned about the growing militancy of the far right, along with the growing willingness of the right wing establishment to erode democratic processes and institutions in the US. Prior to the Trump presidency, I would have considered moving to the US for the better climate. Not now.\nAnd speaking of climate, I saw a report the other day that the waters around Florida had reached hot tub conditions. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @laurabriggs-od2jb My Grandfather was 5 years at war he was shot twice jumping in a fox hole. That is the year the American finally joined WWII and brag about how the American won the war. He hated America so growing up I never knew anyone. I started class at Second City Chicago last year. Maybe you guys aren't so bad. ? I live on Vancouver Island. It is 270 miles long and our whole island population is 875, 000. So ocean view. Hospital that doesn't charge. And while I do have hunting rifles and a shotgun. I had to take 3 written tests and 2 practical exams to have them. As well my license is criminal record checked every 24 hours. I would not move anywhere my grandchildren are doing active shooter drills. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @TheNakedEwe Hmmm, let me see. Mass shootings, high infant mortality, high medical costs, backwards trends in women’s healthcare, high death rate by gun violence for children just for starters would keep me from moving to the US. We used to vacation in the US all the time. One of my husband’s dreams is to see the Smithsonian, but that’s never going to happen. We wouldn’t ever consider crossing the border anymore and I wish the US would keep its toxic politics on its side of the border and keep their hands out of Canadian politics. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @fredspina1757 I live in Canada. In 1984 I bought a house in Florida as a vacation home. Ten years later I sold it. I bought a house in Costa Rica. Best move ever. Look at what is happenning all over the U.S. and especially Florida. Canada in the summer and Costa Rica for winter vacation. LOVE IT. 16 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @darlenehuber793 Why sidestep the war on women’s reproductive rights? The folks you quoted in the video have this opinion which is as valid as anything you read aloud. The fact is that this is actually happening in the United States, under penalty of law. It is not pro life, it is however the antithesis of the freedom Americans pride themselves for. Pro life means responsible gun control, universal health care for all, child care for working families and an education that promotes the truth in history and learning critical thinking skills so students can grow up to be rational, caring human beings. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @seansopata5121 I'm Canadian. I spent nearly twenty years living in either Salt Lake city or Portland. My kid lives in WA. I'd head there in a heartbeat. 1 O0gJtVar7_E

2 years, 11 months ago @marilynmaker5942 No way would I ever move to the USA. I don't believe in your lack of gun control, don't agree they took away abortion laws, can't stand that orange idiot with the big mouth! Not to mention you have lousy health care coverage. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @corinnemcleod1804 Tyler we are bombarded with videos of robbing, mass shootings, crazy Neighbours, car jackings, corrupt police, drug infested streets and homelessness, crazy politics etc. every day. Some of this happens in Canada but in tiny doses and that's the way I like it. California use to be beautiful now it's a ghetto. I used to love going down, but I stay home now and plan on traveling to Europe. 6 O0gJtVar7_E

2 years, 11 months ago @JohnnyWrongo-b9l No way would I want to live down there. Dat place is crazy, dirty, and dangerous. Half the country hates everyone else, or so it seems. Given that your crazies have such easy access to guns, I think it is one of the last north western countries I would live in. \nAlso, the fact that the number one cause of personal bankruptcies in The US, is medical expenses. It is a country where a couple of stitches can cost you a thousand bucks and where insurance companies decide what treatments are available to you.\nI think it would be a terrible place to live, especially with a family. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @loganking873 I wouldn’t move to the states if someone pointed a gun at my face and threatened to kill me if I didn’t because that would happen every day there 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @GuinevereKnight I am scandinavian and I would NEVER move to the US, Canada though is one of my favourites if I were to move somewhere else. I agree with the Canadians on reddit on every point. My tip would be - visit Canada and experience yourself why this is the case. You can always make a new home for yourself in Canada, and have an even better life there. With all that you now have learnt about Canada, you're halfway there. Just visit, and see the US/Canada from another point of view. north of the border. Hope you do someday, why miss out on this fantastic country, people and culture anymore?!! Good luck! ??? 64 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @margaretmcnarry4298 My grandparents moved to LA in the 1920s but moved back to Canada in the mid 1930s. \nI’m glad they did!\nGiven all the issues I face (physically emotionally financially) I could never move there.\nI must say there are numerous places in the States I would love to visit, but not live. 24 O0gJtVar7_E

2 years, 11 months ago @MonaBradbury Yes I would, in fact I have, and absolutely love the US! ?? I really only like Montreal in Canada, and have lived in my share of cities in Canada, the US, and Europe. Americans are by far, the FRIENDLIEST people I’ve ever met, and love my American friends!! ❤❤❤ ?? 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @FunkyLittlePoptart Move to the US? I'm not even willing to visit. I don't go places where corpses have more right to bodily autonomy than I do! 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @davidcheater4239 There is a selection bias on the forum the question was asked.\nA large proportion of recent immigrants to Canada would prefer the USA if it were an option.\nIf you are in a specialized field or at the top of your field, the USA makes more sense.\nLikewise if you are wealthy the USA is better for you.\n\nI live on a Disability pension and would be dead or homeless in the USA. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @sixx3553 IF… I met my dream Hollywood crush and she said USA or nothing I might consider it if I couldn’t convince her otherwise. In all honesty I leave the house without locking the door regularly I’ve never met anyone who owns a gun let alone seen one outside of a cops holster, and agree that people have the right to choose what they do with their body and who they want to marry, government should never take woman’s or lgbtq rights from them. It’s hard to imagine in a developed country this is still an issue in 2023 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @lynerochon6422 I would move to the US ❤ 1 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @samanthaagius3576 So I just want to say just the fact that you have to think about where you want to live for religious, race or safety reasons that is a problem. As a Canadian that travels/moves for work when I look for a town or a city to live it’s how hard is it to visit family/friends is there hiking/fishing/hunting how long do I have to drive to the kids school. I never look at the crime rates in a city, or the number of school shootings, can I get insurance at the new jobs if needed…. And it’s really sad that most of you do. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @daisytwotoes The fact that you've come to terms with gun violence is a really bad sign. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @jamesheal8157 I'm sure there are places in the USA where I could be happy. You need to consider though that as an foreign worker, the opportunities are in the large centers. You'd have to tough it out in a big city for a while until you could get established, then you could move somewhere more desirable. I had an opportunity a long time ago to work in silicon valley. The pay raise was unthinkable and I was certainly tempted. Then I did the math, it is an extremely expensive place to live, or at least it was at the time. When it was all said and done I would have about the same quality of life (however in a desert, no snow, yay!). I would be thousands of miles from my family and have pretty serious job insecurity. Without citizenship, it could get bad real fast. So it just wouldn't be worth it. Now I'm older and there just no way... Not happening. 3 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @christina311uss NEVER. The happiest day of my life was when I crossed the border and finally came home. 2 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @darthwingnut464 A small quiet town? Like Uvalde? There isn't anywhere safe in the USA 1 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @philvandenbelt6910 The way Trudeau is destroying our county. I am looking for dual citizenship as a back up plan. And no I do not live in big cities here nor will i live in big cities in the US 1 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @daisytwotoes To be fair, most of what we in Canada know of the US is through news and US entertainment. The picture I have of the US is of a life lived on edge and in fear. That said, I've seen You Tube/TikTok posts asking Americans living abroad what they found different. Many of expressed that they weren't as stressed because they weren't afraid. 22 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @jbors28 A couple of things: first, why should we have to move to a small town to feel safe? I think the. US folks have become desensitized to the gun violence -- and I'm sure there are folks in your small town that have guns as well. And please, don't say we are a smaller version of the US. We are not. We are our own country, flaws and all. I would never consider moving to the US. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @Habsbsbgirl1909 Sorry but for me nope why Because health care cost alone would bankrupt me ! Couldn’t give up Medicare 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @steppingtotheam281 “Canada, you are the kindest country in the world. You are like a really nice apartment over a meth lab.” -Robin Williams 3 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @kateleblanc604 Cold day in Hell! Wouldn't even visit it these days. Most of the states are on my NO GO list. New York and Vermont maybe. 0 O0gJtVar7_E
2 years, 11 months ago @alexandreazalesny7356 There's more than one mass shooting a day in the US and you're surprised about Canadians being concerned about gun violence. It's crazy how people can be desensitized so easily 0 O0gJtVar7_E
