As a brown guy who is born and raised here, not every brown person is Indian. There are Guyanese, Trinidadians, Sri Lankans, Bengali, Nepali etc people that are in no way related, linguistically, culturally or religiously to people from Punjab that have been here decades and respect the land, the culture and learn English. The majority of the mass migration as of late has come from one state in India. Many are good people, but many try to make Canada the home they left. Too bad the rest of us south asians and west indians are painted with this broad brush.

So essentially 3 tiers of Indian come(Hamiltonian here who worked in the GTA for awhile) They got pumped in and don't like eachother and look down at the lower tiers ones. They buy up insane amounts of properties because they bring thier entire family on different visas and many just stay till they get deported as they bring that money home with them. Every student housing is filled with Indians, every one bedroom has 30 of them living in it. Most starter homes where cheap so they bought them to flip with thier combined money. Security sector is filled with them exclusively because it's the highest amount of money they can make here without any skills .(Most are 0 skilled). Schools all had to cut staff in half because when we cut funding and spots for people coming to our universitys they lost half thier income. Crime rate went way up. My city is really bad for human trafficking and aex trafficking. Many come to our city since it's far enough away to commit crimes. Many get 0 consequences because again.. Illegally overstaying a visa is deportation. Doug Ford literally gave everyone 200$ before an election...like how corrupt and garbage is this country. Now we have Indian only business that can't speak English, similar to the daycare issue. Job postings for specific races or language s only. I’m an Indian, and let me state the reality clearly. India has repeatedly warned Canada that many individuals seeking asylum there include criminals facing serious charges or jail time in India. I am Native American. At college, I took a welding course just to break the monotony of classes as I was raised using my hands. This immigrant male, asked the rest of the class "why is she here?". She was removed and manager took over transactions. Not just mine but those after me. There was another incident with my child. An immigrant (can tell by the long tunic) was trying to lure my daughter away from me. I put her in a cart and requested help from a young employee who wanted me to write a book before calling security. Another employee came over and called security immediately. By the time they found the man, he had exited the store and got into a taxi. A few weeks later at an arena where youth hockey practice was taking place, the same scenario was happening. A man in a tunic was trying to lure children away and when caught, jumped into a taxi and left the scene. To attack an adult who can defend themselves is one thing but to go after children is another. I say stricter policy on crimes are needed.

I’m a second gen Indian in Canada born in USA. It’s become so us vs them between locals and immigrants, that Im caught in the middle, I belong no where and everywhere. There’s no room for my voice, because I’m no different then any Canadian or American in how I act but nothing separates me from Punjab and Kashmir other than accident of birth and one generation. My English is NE United States, my French Québécois, my Hindi Dehli,Punjabi Jalandar, Urdu Lahori, and Turkish Ankara. I speak six languages and I’m fluent in none, I’m from three countries yet none of them want me. It would be great if more of these types of investigations included our voices, as we’re neither here nor there yet caught in the middle of all of this.

India is multi-cultural, Punjab is only 1 part of India and their culture is different from the other Indian states represented in India. The behavior of Punjabi immigrants is not reflective of other Indian cultures in India. For whatever reason there seems to more Punjabi migrants in Canada than from any other state in India. Its the job of Canada to enforce assimilation and immigration rules, they deliberately don't. Littering and defecating in public spaces is illegal in Canada but the Canadian government refuses to enforce those rules.

The problem is immigration back in day was a luxury in India so only riches made it outside and they were rich compared to others after independence because they were more pro british and served them. So it was easy for them to immigrate and assimilate into your culture. Now you see many poor people also immigrating because immigration became more accessible, its just like the touchscreen phones, before only rich people had them, but later and now everyone has it. Plus your overly liberal and the stupid point system lets anyone enter the country if they meet a specific criteria, they barely check their english, background, crime record, etc. Also, living in India is a survival, or a nightmare for short. Especially for the poor people in the up north, and so they go to these shady agents who claim that they can send him or her to Canada, UK, Australia where ever they want in exchange for some money. Sometimes these agents turnout to be scams and sometimes not, then these students apply to some fake university that has no campus in Canada and select a course thats easy. Then once approved they come to canada, don’t go to university and make some other indian friends who say they have contacts with some job providers and through that the students get their jobs at the fast food joints and shopping malls. The mindset with which these students come to Canada is that I want to get a simple job as soon as I land in Canada and through that job I can get a PR. They never go to assimilate or discover the culture, they come because the country looks nice, has resources, and will provide them with a good salary so that they send some money back home to their parents as compared to low paying jobs in India, which too are super competitive. They still like the indian way of life, the culture, the food, the attire, just not in India. Thats why you’ll never see these students eating at anything other than a Indian Punjabi Restaurant or a fast food joint, they will never make white friends, they will never try to change the way they speak and look at Canadians, they will never try to change their driving habits. In conclusion, more poor people and students migrating, paired with their mindset of “I want everything to be Indian just not in India but in a place that looks better” paired with their low interest in actually learning and working better jobs is what makes them a bad immigrant group. But thats not to say that all are like that its only some and mostly Punjabis/ other North Indians that have this mindset. The reason why the Indian group in USA is much better and successful is because they are mostly of south indian descent. Those people are far more educated, actually respect the law of the land. And fun fact: The stereotypical Indian Accent originated from USA mainly and reason why many indians say that they don’t speak in that accent is because that particular stereotypical accent is present in Indian people who come from the states of Andra Pradesh and Telegana, which is is where most of the Indians in USA are actually from. You can see the same trend in the UK as well. The reason I’m mentioning them is because they have a similar appearance to Indians. 4. Almost half of the Indians in Canada are living there illegally. Why do I say this? Because here in India I personally know many people from Punjab and Haryana who go there. In both states, you can easily find many agents who reassure people that they can send them to Canada or the USA without much difficulty. You can also see the trend among Punjabis—many aspire to drive trucks and cars in Canada. In India, people often see Punjabis as if their only purpose in life is to go to Canada. I love Punjabi people, but I don’t like this mindset. 5. So, the people you see doing disgusting things are most likely illegal immigrants. Why? Because genuine people go there to educate themselves and contribute something meaningful to the culture—not to behave like those individuals. 6. I really hope Canada can recover from this. I have a friend who went there in 2015, and he once told me to visit the country. Canadians are truly amazing, and the natural beauty (except the winter!) is so nice.
